## What is Whetstone Bible App?

Whetstone helps you read the Bible, listen to it, pray, and learn verses by heart, on your own or with your church.

READ
A full Bible reader with eight translations: BSB, KJV, World English Bible, Bible in Basic English, NLT, NKJV, NIV and ESV. The four public-domain translations download for reading without a signal, and you can search them word by word. Highlight, bookmark and take notes, open six classic commentaries right beside the text, and share any verse as a picture.

LISTEN
Recorded audio in four translations, with ten readers to choose from. The BSB has four narrators, the World English Bible is read by David Williams, and the KJV and the Bible in Basic English have computer voices, with four accents for Basic English. Pick your translation and reader when you set up, or change them any time on the Audio tab. Play in order, loop a chapter or a book, set a sleep timer, and download chapters or whole books for offline listening.

MEMORIZE
Training Cycles run 42 days. Pick your verses (five is the target, and a cycle can hold up to ten), and each day's session takes about ten minutes: read, listen, recall, and say the verse out loud while the app checks it word by word. Missing a day doesn't reset anything. Verses you learn come back for review on a spaced schedule so they stay with you. Six practice drills and a game give extra reps when you want them.

READING PLANS
More than 70 plans in three groups.
- Bible: the whole Bible in a year, in 180 days or in 90 days, M'Cheyne's calendar, the Bible in chronological order, the New Testament on weekdays, single books, and more.
- Topics: 45 one-week plans on subjects like grace, anxiety, forgiveness, marriage and prayer. Each day is one whole chapter, and the verses on the topic are underlined as you read.
- Fits a cycle: plans that last exactly 42 days, including seven six-topic series.
Run more than one plan at a time, invite a friend to read along, and listen to the day's chapters instead of reading them.

PRAYER
Keep a prayer list. A few requests come up in each day's session, and answered prayers move to their own list.

YOUR CHURCH
Create a group for your church, family, class or friends, or join one with an invite code. Share announcements, a prayer wall, a calendar with event sign-ups and reminders, the sermon library with notes and slides, and your church's podcast. A church can also publish a public page with service times, location and sermons, and people can find listed churches by name, city or ZIP.

MADE TO BE EASY
A home-screen verse widget, text size and light or dark themes, reminders you set yourself, guided tours on every tab, and a step-by-step guide.

No ads. Your reading and notes stay yours, and an account is only needed for reminders, groups and syncing between devices.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-29

More ways to listen. The Bible is now read aloud in four translations, with ten readers to choose from: four narrators for the BSB, David Williams reading the World English Bible, and computer voices for the KJV and the Bible in Basic English. Pick your translation and reader when you set up the app, or change them any time on the Audio tab.

Two new translations. The World English Bible and the Bible in Basic English are public domain, so they download for reading without a signal and can be searched, like the BSB and KJV.

More reading plans. 45 one-week topical plans on subjects like grace, anxiety, forgiveness and prayer, with the verses on the topic underlined as you read. Seven six-topic series that fit a 42-day cycle. More book plans, and the whole Bible in chronological order.

Easier to find your way. Every screen has a way back, the phone's back button closes pop-ups first, What's New opens the exact post, and the guide has been rewritten in plain English.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-25

Church pages and Find a church. Churches can now share a public page with service times, location, sermons and podcast, and be found by name, city or ZIP.
Reading plans like you're used to. Tap Start today's reading, go chapter by chapter, and the day checks itself off. Run several plans at once. Listen instead plays the day's chapters and checks them off as you go.
Events. Sign up for church events, with guests, questions, waitlists and reminders.
A cleaner Today. What's New shows only what you haven't seen, and today's reading sits right under Daily Sharpening.
Choose your commentary during setup or in Settings.
Starter packs in two parts, so one part fills a five-verse cycle.
Also new: share a verse as a picture, app-wide text size, a home-screen widget, guided tours on each tab, and many fixes.

### 1.0.6 — 2026-09-16

Whetstone got a visual pass.

Groups have a face. A church or group admin can now upload a logo and a banner, and they show up across the app — on the Community screen, in the group switcher, and on Today.

Community is rebuilt. The old list of text rows is now a group header and a grid of sections you can see at a glance.

Practice is a game menu. All seven drills have their own artwork, and your best Sword Drill scores sit right on the card.

Audio has artwork. Every book of the Bible now carries cover art for its part of Scripture — the Law, the History, the Wisdom books, the Prophets, the Gospels, the Letters.

Sermons show your church's own podcast artwork.

Five tabs instead of seven. Settings moved to a gear in the top bar and Practice moved to Today, beside the verses it drills, so nothing gets squeezed off the bottom of the screen.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-09-10

Training Record now survives a reinstall. Invite a friend to a reading plan with a link — they start on the same day you did. Community groups use their own words (class, family, group). Posts on the prayer wall are screened before they're sent, and reports reach your group's admins. Audio no longer stops on a slow chapter fetch. Practice drills draw from your whole cycle.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-09-09

Five new ways to practice

The Practice tab now holds six drills instead of one. None are timed, none are scored, and none of them touch your Training Cycle — Sword Drill remains the only round that keeps a record.

- Verse Scramble — the verse in pieces, out of order. Put the phrases back.
- Reference Match — references on one side, opening lines on the other. Pair them up. The only drill that runs the other way: not "what does it say" but "which verse is that".
- Fill the Gap — one word missing, four to choose from. The wrong answers are drawn from your own verses.
- Next Line — a phrase from the verse. Which one comes next?
- Verse Pairs — a memory board. Turn two cards and match each reference to the line that opens it.

Fixes
- Habit reminders can now be set while creating a habit on iPhone and iPad. The reminder step was showing "this browser can't receive push notifications" and offering only Skip — on every iOS build.
- Audio no longer jumps to an unrelated book when a chapter ends. This affected both memory decks and your queue.
- The first-letter drill lets you tap any cue to reveal that word. Previously the only way past a word you couldn't recall was to skip it or mark it done without doing it.
- The abandon-cycle control now sits at the foot of Today instead of mid-screen.
- Member roles are legible in group settings.
- Guide corrections: sermon podcast setup, offline downloads, and the training record now point to the right screens.
