## What is Whimsy Weather?

Whimsy Weather draws the weather instead of tabulating it.

The top half of the screen is a hand-drawn landscape under a real sky. The Sun
and the Moon are where they actually are for your latitude and the time of day,
the Moon shows its true phase, and the rain, snow, cloud and wind in the
picture are the ones in the forecast. The bottom half is the numbers — feels-like,
humidity, wind, pressure, visibility, UV, sunrise and sunset, moonrise and
moonset.

A SKY THAT IS ACTUALLY THE SKY
Sunrise, sunset, twilight and the midnight sun are computed, not faked. At 64°N
in June the sky never goes fully dark, because it doesn't. Drag the timeline and
the Sun and Moon glide along their arcs as the light changes — or tap an hour,
or a day in the five-day strip, to jump there.

SIXTEEN LANDSCAPES, ALL OF THEM ALIVE
Hills, farm, city, beach, harbour, open sea, mountains, desert, lake and the
tropics — and every one has something in it that the wind moves. Smoke leans
downwind, the windmill turns in proportion to the wind, palms bend and coconuts
fall above 60 km/h. People wander through: walking the dog, chasing a hat in a
gale.

SIX PLACES THAT READ THE WEATHER
Taipei 101 shows the cloud base by which floor disappears into it. Fuji puts the
freezing level on a cone of known height. The Golden Gate's 1,280 m span is a
ruler for visibility. The Eiffel Tower's fountains lean in the wind, and drain in
a frost. Liberty stands in water that turns to pack ice. The Pyramids cast the
Sun's bearing and altitude across the sand.

FESTIVE SCENES
On the few days that call for it, the scene hangs lanterns or lights — Chinese,
Japanese or Western. The weather itself is untouched.

WARNINGS, AND HONESTY ABOUT WHERE THEY CAME FROM
Where a national weather service publishes warnings the app reads them and names
the issuer — the US National Weather Service, or MeteoAlarm for Europe.
Everywhere else it derives its own advisories from the forecast and labels them
as derived, rather than dressing them up as official.

your region. English, Français, 繁體中文, 简体中文 and 日本語, system or
hand-picked.

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No account. No analytics. No advertising. The forecast comes from Apple's own
WeatherKit, and searching for a place goes through Apple's frameworks — so the
only thing that leaves your phone is where you want the weather for.

FREE AND PRO
Free keeps one saved place plus wherever you are, with the full conditions
panel, the hourly and five-day forecasts, warnings and advisories, and today's
timeline to scrub hour by hour. Pro adds unlimited places, the seven widgets,
the other fifteen landscapes, and the days on either side of today. Subscribe,
or buy it once and keep it.

NOT A WARNING SERVICE
This is a weather app for looking at, not a safety system. For decisions that
matter, use your national weather service and follow your civil authorities.

SUBSCRIPTION TERMS
Whimsy Weather Pro (Monthly) is US$2 per month and Whimsy Weather Pro (Yearly)
is US$18 per year; both renew automatically. Whimsy Weather Pro (Lifetime) is
US$60, is permanent and never renews. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at
confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically for the same period
unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-09-19

Seven widgets for the home screen, where there used to be one.

Sky tonight — the Moon at its true phase, drawn rather than picked from eight icons, with the planets that are actually up. Today — temperature, feels-like, high and low, UV. Five days, three ways — the icons, the highs and lows as floating bars on one shared scale, and rainfall beside the chance of rain, because those are two different questions. What to wear — coat or no coat, umbrella or not, and how far the day moves between morning, afternoon and evening. Scene now — the landscape the app is drawing at this moment, photographed from the app itself rather than redrawn, so the Sun, the Moon, the cloud and the rain on your home screen are the ones on the screen inside.

Français. The app speaks French throughout now — the forecast wording, the warnings, the settings and the widgets.

Today is free to scrub. The timeline used to be locked end to end; now anyone can drag today's sky hour by hour, and Pro opens the days on either side of it.

Weather fetching is faster and steadier on launch.

Open the app once after updating. The widgets show what the app last published, and this version changed what gets published.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-14

Six new landscapes, and each of them reads the weather in a way nothing else here can.

Taipei 101 shows you where the cloud base is by which floor disappears into it. Mount Fuji puts the freezing level on a cone of known height, and wears the lens-shaped cap cloud that is the oldest forecast in Japan. The Golden Gate's 1,280 m span is a ruler laid across the strait, so how far along it you can still see is a direct reading of the visibility. The Eiffel Tower's fountains lean in the wind — and Paris drains them in a hard frost, so below freezing there is no water in the picture at all. Liberty stands in open water that turns to pack ice in a hard winter. The Pyramids throw the Sun's bearing and altitude across the sand as a shadow.

Festive scenes. On the few days a year that call for it, the scene puts up lanterns or lights — Chinese, Japanese or Western, following your language or your own choice. It only ever adds the things people hang up; it never changes the weather.

The hills are now free to pick, rather than only whatever automatic hands you. And a short introduction on first launch, for anyone meeting the app for the first time.

Fixed: a new Moon in daylight was drawn as a grey disc across the Sun, which looked like an eclipse. It is invisible now, which is what a new Moon is.

Fixed: the screen could sit on "Loading weather…" indefinitely when the forecast service never answered. It now gives up and offers the retry button.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-08

The night sky has planets in it now. Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are drawn where they actually are for your latitude and the hour, and the details panel lists the ones that are up — how bright each is, and when it rises and sets.

The landscapes were reworked. People swing their arms as they walk, the horse and the camel move the way those animals move, the city reads clearly on a rainy night, and the alpine and countryside scenes now layer front to back properly.

In the forecast, every day carries its own sunrise and sunset, and the hourly strip shows the chance of rain as a band you can read at a glance.

Scrubbing the timeline is smoother: the scene holds its weather while you drag instead of flickering through it.
