## What is Whisdom?

Some sentences are like a seal kept for years —
press it down, and the color still runs deep.

Whisdom is a quiet place that hands you one such sentence a day: in the morning light, on the commute, under the lamp before sleep.

No need to rush understanding. Let it keep you company. One day, one of these lines may catch you exactly when you fall.

FEATURES

• One quote a day: classical poetry, Confucian and Taoist classics, Zen sayings, Scripture, Taiwanese proverbs and more — 1,400+ entries. Lines from the classics, Scripture and named authors carry their author or source, and the few traditional sayings without a definite source carry a note instead; most modern motivational, humorous and anti-chicken-soup one-liners are unattributed
• Fourteen collections, including Fitness, Golf and Sales — each gets its own line
• Heart Apothecary: on a heavy day, tap the red-and-yellow pill at the top right and tell the keeper how you feel — poems, Taiwanese, a laugh, calm, hitting the wall, just got hung up on… Eleven remedies, each remembering where you left off
• Walkman: start it from Browse or any remedy and it reads the quotes aloud one after another, pausing 3 to 15 seconds between them. Lock your phone and put it in your pocket — it keeps reading. Pause, resume, previous and next work from the Lock Screen and Control Center. In the Heart Apothecary, five original background tracks (guqin, piano, zheng, lofi, rain with wooden fish) can play underneath; a sleep timer stops it all after 15, 30 or 60 minutes
• Pick a voice: choose from the Chinese and English voices installed on your phone, including Enhanced and Premium voices you've downloaded, each with a preview. English quotes switch to an English voice automatically, and the reading pace is adjustable
• Taiwanese proverbs in a real voice: 77 proverbs from the Ministry of Education's Taiwanese dictionary (臺灣台語常用詞辭典), each with Tâi-lô romanization and the dictionary's explanation (in Chinese); read-aloud plays the dictionary's own recording. The second remedy, Learn Taiwanese, is all proverbs
• Bilingual library: the app and most quotes are in Traditional Chinese, joined by 100 English classics — the King James Bible, Bobby Jones, Theodore Roosevelt, Thoreau
• AI explanations (in Traditional Chinese): a classical line unpacked in plain words — what it says, the idea behind it, how to live it
• AI translation: render a quote in seven languages (EN, ZH, ES, HI, DE, FR, JA)
Note: AI runs on device; your reading never leaves it. Requires iOS 26 or later on an Apple Intelligence–capable iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence on
• Morning cards: one tap turns any quote into a portrait rice-paper card to share on LINE, Facebook, Instagram or Threads — it arrives as a single image friends can pass along
• Scheduled collections: up to six daily updates, each slot can play its own collection — and the notification can read the quote aloud in your chosen voice (Settings > 朗讀; quiet in Silent mode and Focus)
• Search by text, author or source from the home screen
• Widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen in ink-and-paper style
• Immersive mode: the buttons fade, leaving only words on paper
• Favorites, history, a small journal, and room for your own quotes
• An anti-chicken-soup section for when you need honesty instead

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-10-09

At the times you set, the daily quote now reads itself aloud — plus search and a sleep timer.

READ ALOUD WHEN IT ARRIVES
When a daily notification arrives, your phone can read that quote aloud. Turn on 推播時唸出佳句 (Speak the quote with notifications) in Settings > 朗讀 (Read Aloud), and choose the quote alone or the quote followed by its source. It uses the read-aloud voice you picked; Silent mode and Focus keep it quiet.

SEARCH
A magnifying glass at the top right of the home screen searches by text, author or source. Separate words with a space to match several at once.

SLEEP TIMER
While Walkman or the Heart Apothecary's background music is playing, a moon button at the top stops everything after 15, 30 or 60 minutes — fall asleep without it playing all night.

MORE RELIABLE DAILY NOTIFICATIONS
• Fixed daily notifications that sometimes failed to appear; devices using a non-Gregorian calendar (such as the Republic of China or Buddhist calendar) never received them and now do
• Settings > 每日更新時間 (Daily Update Times) now shows how many notifications are scheduled and when the next one is due, and tells you if notifications are turned off

ALSO
• A small, dismissible banner on the home screen lets you know when a new version is on the App Store
• Settings > 更多設定 (More Settings) adds a link to write a review
• Small detail fixes

### 1.4.1 — 2026-10-08

This release lets Walkman keep reading with your phone in your pocket.

KEEPS READING WITH THE SCREEN OFF
Start Walkman, lock your phone and put it away — quotes keep coming, one after another, for walks and commutes. The screen still dims and sleeps as usual to save battery.

LOCK SCREEN CONTROLS
A playback card appears on the Lock Screen and in Control Center, showing the quote being read and who said it. Pause, resume, previous and next work right there. A phone call pauses reading, and unplugging headphones pauses it instead of switching to the speaker.

PICK THE VOICE YOU LIKE
Read-aloud now lists every Chinese and English voice installed on your phone, including Enhanced and Premium voices you've downloaded, each with a preview. While Walkman is playing, tap the voice button at the top to switch voices and hear the difference right away.

A FRESHER HEART APOTHECARY
The eleven remedies are reordered: poems, Taiwanese, a laugh, a dose of cynicism, calm, then the rest. The Heart Apothecary, All Quotes, History and Journal now share the home page's rice-paper look with serif titles, and the home screen's buttons are cleaner. Quotes and sources are centered.

ALSO
• Settings save as soon as you close them — no Save button to remember
• Starting read-aloud pauses music from other apps, the way a podcast does, so it can appear on the Lock Screen
• Smoother Browse and History
• Small detail fixes

### 1.4 — 2026-09-11

This release gives the Taiwanese proverbs a real voice.

TAIWANESE PROVERBS, READ BY A REAL VOICE
All 77 Taiwanese proverbs are new, drawn from the Ministry of Education's Dictionary of Common Taiwanese Words. Each comes with its Tâi-lô romanization and the dictionary's own explanation, shown right under the sentence on the home page and while browsing; the read-aloud button now plays the dictionary's recorded pronunciation instead of a synthetic voice guessing at Taiwanese characters. Continuous Play in the Heart Apothecary uses it too. You can switch back to the synthetic voice in Settings.

A WIZARD THAT FOLLOWS TIPS
On first launch, the welcome poem is followed by six short pages — the Heart Apothecary, morning cards, three ways quotes can reach you, your own quotes, collections, and hiding — in the same order as Tips in Settings, two or three lines each. The full steps are always there in Settings.

No more choosing tones before you start: everything is on by default, and you can narrow it under Playback Content. If you are updating and see the wizard again, your existing choices stay untouched.

WALKMAN
Continuous Play now has a name: Walkman. From Browse on the home page, or from any remedy in the Heart Apothecary, one tap reads the quotes to you one after another, pausing a few seconds between them; the pause is adjustable in Settings (3 to 15 seconds). With "sentence and source" selected, Taiwanese proverbs are followed by their explanation in Mandarin. Tips gains a lesson for it.

A NEW REMEDY: LEARN TAIWANESE
The second remedy in the shop is now a full round of Taiwanese proverbs, the wisdom of the grandparents' generation.

SETTINGS, REORGANIZED
The five settings you actually touch stay on top; everything else folds into More, with the details one tap in.

ALSO
• Every new version shows the short onboarding wizard once
• The privacy policy moved to sayhow.app/whisdom/privacy; the old address still works
• The bundled typeface now covers the Taiwanese-specific characters
• Small copy and detail fixes

### 1.3.1 — 2026-09-09

Sharing works now — and it looks better on the way out.

Some of you tapped share, picked a friend in LINE, and nothing arrived. This release replaces the whole sharing path, and redraws the card while it is there.

A CARD WORTH SENDING IN THE MORNING
Every quote has its own portrait card: paper, distant hills, the Whisdom seal, the source. It arrives as one clean image, and whoever receives it can press and forward it onward, or save it to Photos — which is how a morning card actually travels.

AN INVITATION FOLLOWS
After the image comes a short line — one a day, right when you fall — and a download link. A friend who wants it is one tap away, and you never have to explain.

TYPE, REDRAWN
The card finds the largest size that still fits, and steps down rather than leave a single orphaned character on the last line. Long or short, Chinese or English, it sits properly.

ONE MORE LESSON IN TIPS
"Send a morning card to someone you thought of" — three steps, filed right after the Heart Apothecary.

### 1.3 — 2026-09-03

This release opens a shop and finds a voice.

THE HEART APOTHECARY
The red-and-yellow pill on the home screen opens a ten-remedy shop. When a day turns heavy, don't wait for the daily update — tell the keeper how you feel (need a push, need comfort, need quiet, hit the wall, just got hung up on) and receive a round of matching lines. Every remedy remembers where you left off, and five original music beds (guqin, piano, zheng, lofi, rain) can play softly underneath — tick the ones you like.

READ ALOUD
A speaker button joins the home controls. Chinese lines are read in a natural Taiwanese voice; English classics switch to an English one. Pick the voice and pace in Settings. Continuous play reads line after line, sources optional — a pocket radio for the soul.

YOUR DATA SURVIVES UPDATES
History, rotation progress, hidden quotes and your own entries are now preserved across every future update.

SHARING IS ONE CARD
A quote shared to LINE is now a single tappable card — the sentence is the card, and it leads to the App Store.

ALSO
• A welcome poem with live progress on first launch
• Fully rewritten tips: three ways quotes can reach you, and how to add your own
• Long quotes auto-size; many performance and stability fixes
