I use different versions of white noise almost exclusively (although the purring cat noise is always good for a lift). I've used other apps for white noise and find that sometimes background noises become apparent in the recordings, which is really annoying. That has not been the case with any of the white noise options on this app. My favorite by far is the waterfall because the noise is uniform, loud, and just the right pitch for sleeping. This app has saved me from having to cart around an actual white noise generator, and with the right set of earbuds it's the only thing that makes day sleeping in hotels possible. I've got other provisions on my devices for alarms, but it would be really handy if in addition to the clock function this app included an alarm feature. ### 5/5 — Relaxing *2015-12-19, version 1.80* Love it! Honestly just save your money and spend it on a better ambience app. Also many of the sounds are just short 5 to 10 second sound bites looped. It becomes very easy to identify the loop and ruins a lot of the sounds, the wind chimes is one of the most obvious. ### 2/5 — Cheap loop *2013-05-02, version 1.30* This app is just a constant 5-second loop of sound. Cognitively speaking, it is exactly the opposite of what human mind requires to lapse into an alpha wave state of relaxation. You will be calm for about 3 minutes, then you will feel creeping stress. It will drive you nuts. Try playing an instrumental song. Have someone stop it and replay the same part. Every 5 seconds. Over, and over, and over. Your brain quickly finds the pattern. Trust me, you are just 3 minutes away from insanity. It is to me. I find it useful, easy to interface with, and it does what it says on the tin. But I've docked the devs one star because of the nag screen. Just ask for ratings in the settings, where it's appropriate, and where the user can act on the request when she wishes. No one likes to be interrupted. ### 3/5 — One of best noise apps - but you took out fading!! *2013-05-29, version 1.31* I love this app. Has amazing sounds. It just works on your psyche. Only 1 complaint. I use to use old ver that had audio fading for stop timer. Now they took it out. This is unacceptable. Having noise abruptly stop is guaranteed to interrupt ones flow or wake them up during sleep. PLEASE bring back noise fading for the timer option and you'll have the greatest app. ### 3/5 — So So *2011-11-06* The one thing this app has going for it is the great selection of sounds. There are so many and the ones they have are great quality. I used this for the first time when I was wide awake during the day. After listening for a bit, it is easy to realize that the sounds are recorded for approximately 5 seconds and then looped to play over and over again. It is the same thing in 5 second increments. When listening to something like windchimes, the beauty of the sound is the variation of tones. Listening to the same thing play over and over again every 5 seconds becomes almost the opposite of relaxing. It would be great if it were visually interactive as well. Staring at a nonmoving picture while listening to these sounds sells the app a little short. It really should be visually interesting as well as auditorily. Also, if there is going to be a clock, where is the alarm feature? My noise machine/clock has the ability to use the sounds to wake you up. However in the last few days the ability to set a timer so the app turns off has disappeared. This is an unfortunate problem as the hour that it automatically gives isn’t quite enough for me to fall asleep, so I’m back to wide awake as I hear it turn off. I’ve deleted and then reinstalled but still haven’t got the timer controls back.
