### 2/5 — Limited and can’t I’d by picture

*2023-05-12*

Very few animals and some “like owl” completely wrongly identified as same as other birds.

Would be more interested if you could “like other I’d sources” from a picture give you options of identification by your geography.

**Developer response:** Hi Dalziel,

We take our users' privacy very seriously and so will not convey their location in images or encyclopedia listings. The encyclopedia listing of "owl" is separate from other birds.

### 2/5 — Not terribly useful

*2022-06-13*

First, you have to deal with pop up ads, some of which are very disruptive. Secondly, there are only 30 animals in the database, with many common critters excluded.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. The app now contains 45 animals and is limited by geolocation.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — remarkably awful

*2025-08-05*

just a total waste of memory space. laughably useless

**Developer response:** Ooh you sound offended by something else. WhoPoo has dozens of animals in its free encyclopedia for all users to search and learn about. Better luck next time!

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2024-11-09*

The app wants you to tell it the species and all of the information if you knew that then the app would not be necessary. This app is useless

**Developer response:** Hi,

If you are incapable of guessing a species on a simple input screen, this app isn't for you.

### 1/5 — assumes you know who poo’d

*2023-09-15, version 1.1.5*

just a catalogue, which is disappointing. Doesn’t allow you to upload a picture for identification. Assumes you know what the poo belongs to when you ‘add a picture’. If I knew I wouldn’t need this app! Useless

### 1/5 — Doesn’t identify scat

*2023-09-04*

I thought this would help identify a photo of scat. It does not. Pretty useless format in general.

**Developer response:** It does actually, you just have to scroll through the encyclopedia or view where your submitted photo gets sorted. Hundreds have used WhoPoo to identify scat.

### 1/5 — No info

*2023-08-27*

Downloaded today and I get a constant message that animal data failed to download. Does not seem to work!

**Developer response:** Hi,

Hmm everything appears to be working. You may get an error message if you close and open the app too quickly but the images are not available for direct download.

Thanks!

### 1/5 — Species?

*2023-08-27*

App won’t process my pictures without inputting a species! How would I know what species it is? That’s why I’m using the app!!

**Developer response:** Hi,

Information such as species guess and location is important for identifying photos. As the WhoPooApp website states, identification per photo is also available for a fee.

Thanks!

### 1/5 — Not about scat

*2022-10-06*

You would think Who Poo would be about scat. You have to know what animal it came from if I knew that I wouldn’t have tried this app. Do not bother with this app

**Developer response:** This app is about scat -- it contains an interactive encyclopedia with photos of scat, as well as information such as dimensions etc. Maybe you missed the encyclopedia, it's under the book icon.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-07-31*

Empty database for texas. Worthless app, please remove from App Store. It does have ads that work.

**Developer response:** Hi Austin & ?, thanks for your feedback. I see you used the old version of the app (1.1.4) while the new version (1.1.5) has fixed bugs so that you should be able to see all entries, including for Texas. Thanks, WHP

### 1/5 — None of the features worked

*2022-06-26, version 1.1.4*

I downloaded this app to help me identify a mystery poop left on my deck. It brings up error messages saying data failed to load so no information about animals or their scat is provided. I was able to add pictures that I had but why would I want to input details about an animal when I thought the point of the app was to help identify them. The deck poop will remain a mystery.

**Developer response:** Hello,

Please send us an email at whopooapp@protonmail.com for scat identification. The app has an encyclopedia you can use for scat identification, with built-in filters.

Thank you,

WHP

### 2/5 — Missed the Mark

*2025-02-05*

Disappointed. Looking for an app that would id the animal from a photo of the feces, and maybe some simple info like geo location. If I could answer the questions about the animal in your app, I wouldn’t need the app.

**Developer response:** Users are expected to provide information including area photo was taken in, dimensions and other details when they submit a photo. The encyclopedia provides a free feature for you to make educated guesses. If you are unable to read a few paragraphs to make a guess, or add relevant details, this app isn't for you. Good luck!

### 5/5 — Whopoo

*2023-05-19*

I found “Poo” highly informational and fun to watch. I look forward to seeing more Sara has to offer in the future. As interesting “poo” is, the expanse of Sara’s mind is I suspect the is more to come.

### 2/5 — Great Concept…

*2023-10-14, version 1.1.5*

Been looking for an app like this for a long time, trying to identify the animals on my property at night. This one seems like it’s almost what I’ve been looking for, except that it’s specific to the US, and I’m in Australia, so couldn’t select a location which was disappointing. I’m also wanting an app that’s able to use its database to produce identification suggestions (as the plant & insect ID apps are capable of doing), rather than just cataloging photos.

### 2/5 — Not what I thought

*2023-08-16*

I wanted an app where I could put a photo of scat I saw and it would help me identify what animal it was. I have an app for identifying plants and bird songs and love them. I found some unusual scat near my house and wanted to know what it was. 🤷🏻‍♀️I guess this would be fun if you already knew what animal it was but scanning through entries that others entered doesn’t seem that useful.

**Developer response:** Hi,

The success rate for plant identification using apps is about 4%. WhoPoo is an encyclopedia app and requires some reading.

Thanks!
