## What is Who's Up?

It’s 3am. You’re awake again. You’re not going to text anyone, because what if they’re asleep.

Somewhere in your contacts, someone else is lying there awake too.

Who’s Up is how you find out — without waking a single person who’s sleeping.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Add the handful of people you’d actually want to hear from. Your sister. The friend from work. The one two time zones over.
2. When you’re awake, tap once. That’s it.
3. Anyone in your circle who’s also up sees it. Anyone asleep sees nothing — no sound, no buzz, no banner. The notification is silent by design.
4. If a friend is up, her name moves to the top of your list with a CALL button next to it. One tap and the phone is ringing.

That last part matters. Seeing that someone’s awake is nice. Actually talking to her at 3am is the point.

FOR THE NIGHTS THAT KEEP HAPPENING

If perimenopause or menopause has made 3am feel familiar, you are not the only one. Who’s Up doesn’t track sleep or offer medical advice. It answers one smaller question: is one of my real friends awake too?

WHAT IT ISN’T

• Not a chat app. No messages, no threads, no “typing…” bubbles.
• Not a social network. No feed, no followers, no likes, no counts.
• Not for meeting strangers. Only people already in your phone, and only if they’re on Who’s Up too.
• Not a health app. It doesn’t track your sleep, diagnose anything, or tell you what to do. It connects you to a friend. That’s all it does.

QUIET BY DESIGN

Every notification is passive — lock screen, silent, no vibration. Do Not Disturb and Focus are respected automatically. If you’re asleep, you will not know a friend was up. You can add quiet hours if you want a hard blackout, but it’s off by default, because the middle of the night is when this is useful.

You also choose how long being “up” lasts — 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes. When it’s done, it’s done. Nothing lingers, nothing announces you all night.

PRIVACY, BY DEFAULT

• No location tracking. Not now, not ever.
• No public profile. You can’t be found by anyone who doesn’t have your number.
• Contacts are matched using cryptographic hashing — names and numbers don’t leave your phone. When you tap CALL, it dials the number already in your own address book.
• Mutual friendship required. No one-way follows.
• Block anyone, anytime, no explanation owed.
• Delete your account and your data from inside the app, in two taps.

Being awake at 3am is hard. Wondering whether you’re the only one can make it feel even longer.

Who’s Up.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.5 — 2026-08-26

Reporting problems is now simpler: Settings includes a clear Report a problem option that sends basic app details without including contacts, messages, or other private information. We also improved how the app receives small updates so fixes arrive more reliably.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-25

Two changes for the nights you’re awake anyway.

• A friend who’s up now has a CALL button next to her name. One tap and the phone is ringing — no hunting through contacts at 3am.
• Quiet hours no longer default to on. The middle of the night is when this app earns its keep, and every notification is silent regardless. You can still switch quiet hours on in Settings.

Also: fixes to the keyboard on the name-entry screens, so adding a friend no longer traps you on the page.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-22

Small fixes, one nice new thing.
• Set how long your "I'm Up" lasts — 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes. Find it in Settings.
• An active status now glows a soft amber at night instead of staying cold.
• Fixed the countdown timer, a scroll snag on Add Friend, and a keyboard overlap on sign-in.
Thanks for being here early.
