## What is Wide Sky?

For a marine mammal, the hedgehog spends a disconcerting amount of time on land. What do they want, what are they up to?

Hedgehogs are troubled spirits, and yet, they never fail to entertain the masses with their acrobatic feats. Many people don't know, however, that hedgehogs aren't born this way. Hedgehogs need to be trained and molded into the tiny, fiscally responsible acrobats we know and love.

That's where you come in. 

Train your hedgehog in more than 40 challenges and keep his cunning mind from veering. We will give you a sensible amount of ropes (11) and 6 special powers, like the ability to deploy a parachute, control the wind or summon a vortex. Your challenges will change with the nature of those powers.

So, crash those orbs as fast as you can, collect those stars and keep track of your performance with built-in stats. We will even let you tweak the rope physics, because we're not just accomplished scientists, we're also human.

You might encounter detailed animation along the way. But don't fall for it. It's designed to fool you into empathy.

### 3/5 — Looks pretty, but gameplay loop isn’t engaging

There are “challenges” like “reach a height of 310m”. Problem is, there isn’t any altitude meter. I have no idea when I have hit the achievement. 

Then, after (I’m pretty sure) completing a challenge, it isn’t ticked off. Do I have to complete all of them at once? I don’t know, and none of the menus or guide make it clear.

On top of that, while going challenge-hunting, you have to go smash some orbs. If you don’t, your challenge completions don’t count. It’s quite frustrating to play a casual game with a time limit.

The orbs themselves aren’t fun either. The only reward, as far as I can tell, for collecting all the shards from an orb is points. I once did that, but got disproportionately punished for touching the ground while scrambling to pick up shards. This high-variance low-expectation approach to points means it doesn’t feel good to get points. It still feels bad to touch the ground.

Overall, I decided I have no idea what this game wants from me, or what I want from this game, so I stopped playing.

I remember playing this game like some 10 years ago. To see this game still around is itself crazy but also it is fully playable. Appreciate the effort by the developer to keep the game available for the next generation. It is a charming soulful game. Thank you.

Wide Sky’s audiovisuals, tone, and touch gestures place this game ahead of its time. They’re just as whimsical as I remember them.

The challenges hold surprising difficulty. Each one pushes a player to try different approaches and, ultimately, improve! With enough patience, continuously clearing challenges makes the hedgehog’s acrobatics feel much more natural.

Too bad a few elements of the game’s menus are blocked by my device’s notch. It’s a stain on the game’s presentation.

Overall, I’ve enjoyed rediscovering Wide Sky! It’s an appealing way to pass a few minutes at a time.
