This obliterates the marketing promise that the Apple Watch is capable of functioning as a phone even if an iPhone is not present. and that there is a Beyond app for the watch, this is tragically misleading. I'll be returning my Apple Watch because of this is useless if I don't have the iPhone with me. ### 2/5 — Dangerous fault after upgrading iPhone to SE 2020 *2021-12-20, version 1.2.2* Since 2019 I have used the widex beyond app with my iPhone 6s and have had no major issues. However I recently upgraded to a new iPhone SE 2020 and there is now a potentially dangerous fault. Whenever someone calls me, I play a saved video or play a video on social media, the microphone level shoots up from the default 50 to 94 level with a very loud beep! There is no way to control it. I have contacted Widex who never responded to my email. I have also contacted to Apple who were unable to give any advice or fix the issue. This needs to be addressed as loud beep is very uncomfortable, much so I now need to have Bluetooth switched off. I want to be able to control the volume at a low level when a video plays or my phone rings and not for it to shoot up to an uncomfortable level. ### 2/5 — Lack of upkeep *2021-01-31, version 1.2.2* I understand that BEYOND is not their current model, but for how expensive these are, they could at least support them a bit more (last update was 2 years ago and can’t remember the last firmware update). The beyond app on Apple Watch constantly shows “not connected”. There are some aspects of using these MFi hearing aids that seem like there’s a disadvantage to using them with an iPhone when they can’t even connect to an Apple Watch . ### 2/5 — Poor App *2021-01-24, version 1.2.2* Have had tremendous issues pairing with my phone to the point I can’t even use my gearing aids. After paying 6k got the Damb things they should at least have a propped app to support them. Made a lot of changes to get them but have ridiculous support and workability. Have sent hearing aids back but still have issues... also costs $100+ for an office visit to tell me they have issues..... not sure which is worse the App, the Hearing Aids or the Audiologist...... ### 2/5 — Needs major update *2020-11-29, version 1.2.2* Since Apple updated their IOS to 14.2 Widex Beyond wont even open. It! ### 2/5 — M M Guy *2020-08-27* I have used this app for just short of 2 years. There has been no update of the app in over a year. There has to be something much better on the market. I have an iPhone SE and an iPad Air. I installed this app on both devices. I leave both in the kitchen overnight when I put in my hearing aids I the morning is when the problems start. If the hearing aids connect it may be to either device or sometimes the left to one device and the right to the other. On the rare occasion when everything goes right they will connect to the iPhone. The solution was to uninstall the ap from the iPad. Now. The aids connect to the iPhone about half the time. Or it tells me no hearing aids are connected. They work but I cannot change programs. If I just leave then “not connected” sometime during the day they will connect to the app if I start over and shut the hearing aids down and go through the connection process it may take up to 3 times before they connect. I use 3 different programs during a normal day so it is a big hassle when it doesn’t work. My hearing specialist says it is not the best app but he can’t fix it. If you get this don’t expect to be satisfied. As I stated at the beginning - there must be something better. Update: it has been a year and 4 months since my last review. I am still waiting on an update to the app to fix the many things that are wrong. I think it is never going to happen. Save your money and buy the cheap hearing aids that are now advertised on TV for a couple hundred dollars. They will probably be better than these expansive ones that don’t function as advertised. At least you won’t pay for features that don’t work. ### 2/5 — Worst Software for Hearing Devise *2020-08-12, version 1.2.2* I have used this app for 3 years. I learned I should never put app on any devise other than iPhone . The app drops my connection every day and I have to reinstall every day. Additionally my very expensive hearing aids work only half the time. Will send them back when home again. The sound is not as good as other hearing devises that I have had so I will be going back to the Resound hearing devise I used to have. Audiologist pushes these Widex but never again . ### 2/5 — Disappointed *2020-08-03, version 1.2.2* For the cost of how much hearing aids are you would think that they would keep the app regularly updated it should not make a difference that I bought them in 2018 considering how much they are for one pair as of the last iPhone update I can no longer speak to anyone in a coal no one can hear me when it’s connected to the hearing aids I had to switch back to just a regular iPhone ### 3/5 — Iphone6 and Mini IPad *2020-07-14, version 1.2.2* I have the same problem. I just got my IPad. Installed in both. I go to use my phone and my right ear is out and I have to reconnect it. It’s frustrating when the phone rings and I wasn’t aware one went out. Mayo charged $4,200 for these and I am not happy! Can’t anyone update this software. My husband needs hearing aids. He will be buying his at Costco. Half the price and well rated!!!. ### 2/5 — Time to update!!!! *2020-05-26, version 1.2.2* I love the concept of Beyond, it worked well at the beginning when the app was last updated, but now two years later as I continually update my phone software, Beyond has not kept up with bug fixes and updating their app. I now frequently struggle with bluetooth connections to my aids losing phone conversations and interruptions while listening to music or podcasts. Please update to fix these issues. ### 2/5 — Streaming between phone and HA is unreliable *2020-01-25, version 1.2.2* I have gone back to using COM-DEX as iPhone Streams better to this device. This App won’t work with Com-Dex. The COM-DEX app is absolutely crap. It’s a LOSE-LOSE. I wish Apple and Hearing aid vendors could find a good solution. Using phones can be both a frustrating and depressing experience for the hearing impaired. ### 2/5 — Truly annoying but not without utility *2020-01-17, version 1.2.2* The functionality is ok except it forgets fine tuning AND it beeps every time a new app accessed it. So, for example when getting directions from a mapping program (Google maps, Apple Maps, or Waze) the beeping plays over the directions ( e.g. “In one half mile BEEP exit). Not just the first direction, every direction. It does some things well but once you notice the beeps, it drives every positive out of your mind. It drives YOU out of your mind. ### 1/5 — iOS 13 Blues *2019-12-16, version 1.2.2* Since updating my iPhone 10 sMax to iOS 13, apps with audio grab my Beyond440 aids but don’t release them when I quit the app. I end up with the left aid connected to my phone but not the right aid. I have to turn the right aid off and on and then sometimes my phone connects to the right aid. This Widex app needs updating! Update. Just updated to iOS13.3 No connection at all now to my hearing aids, no streaming, no phone connection, zilch! ### 1/5 — iOS 13 upgrade problem *2019-11-17, version 1.2.2* Great hearing aids but the iOS13 upgrade seems to have crippled the app and it no longer recognises my aids. Widex can you please solve. IOS13 now recognises the aids but there are still some odd issues. Occasional beeps on the aids and unusual interactions with my iPhone. Come on Widex, it’s over a year since you updated the app. It is not working harmoniously with iOS 13 and its updates. Widex - your app doesn’t work any more. Please sort this out. Your hearing aids cost a lot of money and the feeling ap makes them almost useless. ### 1/5 — Aids Keep Resetting *2019-11-12, version 1.2.2* Since upgrading to the iphone 11 pro max my aids are constantly resetting to 50% volume. It is difficult for me to hear at that level. It doesn’t appear that the problem is with the phone. It is probable that Widex hasn’t kept up with the latest Bluetooth updates. The Widex app and firmware is old. I don’t know a way to stabilize this problem. Any assistance would be appreciated. ### 1/5 — New update. *2019-10-22, version 1.2.2* The newest update is chaos to my aids. Near every app being opened causes fluctuations in sound levels of my aids. The worst culprits are Fb and Fb messenger. Had to disconnect and use the remote for my Beyond 330’s. It has been five years. ### 1/5 — Garbage *2023-02-10* Frequent failures. Frequent disconnect with Apple Watch. Sound occ distorted through Bluetooth with clicking and right aide cutting ins and out. Right now I would suggest a different brand of hearing aide if you want the Bluetooth functionality. Update w latest firmware and iOS update. Connection to aides now nearly perfect: rare clicking noises and it does not lose connection. However, there is no connection through apple watch at all. Update: this appears to be an abandoned app now that the aides associated with it are two gen old. Functionality is adequate but frequently does things automatically like changes programs or volume. It is apparent that the manufacturer isn’t going to improve the software. Instead they want to sell you new hearing aids for $4000 ### 1/5 — Horrible app made worse *2022-03-23* Using this app with the Bluetooth on my iPhone has always been a bad experience. Each time I upgrade a phone, I hope for an improvement. Never happens. Now with the new iPhone update, the problems have increased. I never thought that possible. Each time I want to use the hearing aids with the Bluetooth, I need to complete multiple steps to maybe! get it to work. Between Widex and IPhone, it would seem this should have been resolved, not made worse! Not only is it tricky to get the Bluetooth to work at all, some apps can’t seem to keep the volume at a hearable level, no matter how often the volume button is adjusted. My guess is IPhone wants a person to buy their wireless earbuds - I’m guessing it’s about the money. ### 1/5 — Watch app useless *2021-10-20, version 1.2.2* I agree with the other reviewers. Given that this company hasn’t updated this app in over 3 years or issued any firmware updates despite multiple iOS upgrades, shows that it is not serious about providing a competitive product. The app mostly doesn’t work with the latest iPhones or OS updates, unable to maintain a setting consistently. The iWatch app has always been hit or miss. And the Widex app cannot find my hearing aids The search is not working ### 1/5 — IOS 14 broke device connection *2020-09-22, version 1.2.2* The previous few ios updates more or less allowed me to control my Widex Beyond hearing aids although it wasn’t flawless. The new v14 os has completely broken any utility that existed. ### 1/5 — Volume and Bluetooth inconsistency *2020-09-03, version 1.2.2* The volume drops on its own. I have made the settings the way I want them in the APP and the volume just drops in strength. Bluetooth signal drops from one side even with a full battery and phone in hand. ### 1/5 — Review going downhill *2020-03-19* I’ve been using these hearing aids and app for almost two years now. I was initially very pleased with the interface especially the direct phone interface. Would have been a 4 or 5 star review. As I have now moved to an iPhone 11 and iOS 13, my satisfaction level has gone down. In particular listening to any video through the phone is problematic. As others have noted the hearings frequently reset (“right ready”, “left ready”, beep, volume reset) with any non-wider app change. An ad comes up on a news story — beep goes the hearing aid. I’ve also just discovered that the hearing aid Bluetooth connection blocks or pauses video play. Watch a video without the HA link, it plays fine. Watch same video with HA linked, it pauses at about 25 secs like a cache problem. Really frustrating. Saw. Developer response to these reviews from 6 months ago but no apparent software or firmware change. Now I am down to a 1-star rating. Frustrated! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Improvements *2020-08-28* As I set a specific custom program, that program holds until I get an incoming phone call, message, or text, Immediately the selected program is released and the Universal program is set. The combination of aids and application should hold the selected program until the aids are powered down or the program is changed. IPHONE v 11 ### 5/5 — Happy so far *2019-10-23* When I got my Wide X 440 beyond I had some connectivity issues, and when I discussed it with my audiologists she confirmed an issue with blue tooth connectivity. Being a Beta tester for Apple iOS, I knew there had been some issues that pledged Apples air pods so I suspected the problem might also exist with the new made for iPhone hearing aids. So I filed a bug report, and it seamed to be fixed by iOS 12. Now here I am 3 years later and am now on iOS 13.2 and still running fairly strong. But I’ve found that with every new iOS update from Apple, it’s best to repair the hearing aids, as well as to toggle blue tooth off every couple of days just so things continue to work. Minor inconvenience? Sure. Worth it? That’s a question you have to answer yourself. But as a iOS Beta tester yeah it’s worth the work, just to enjoy my phone and hearing aids. ### 5/5 — Come on guys it’s been a yeas since last update *2019-09-26, version 1.2.2* Great companion to the hearing aids but let me add more tinnitus programs or at least import the stuff from zen beyond app. Your so close make it excellent This app needs a patch Now for IOS 13 when the phone locks or the app closes the volume setting returns to default and my ears start ringing Please please ### 5/5 — Fantastic app *2018-04-14, version 1.2.0* A fantastic app which now gives me so many advantages within normal hearing range. Just one issue when it connects to other apps like Facebook messenger it makes a clicking sound as if to connect to streaming and it can turn the aid off. It doesnt need to connect automatically to messenger. I highly recommend! ### 5/5 — This app has nothing to do with streaming phone calls!! *2017-09-19* The streaming that takes place from your iPhone to your hearing aids or from your iPhone to your Bluetooth in the car, has nothing to do with this app. That is controlled by the iPhone under the settings icon. There is a very easy way to turn off the streaming to your hearing aids if you prefer to have the phone call streamed to your cars Bluetooth. My patients are very happy with this app. ### 4/5 — App crashes, HAs won’t connect *2020-12-03, version 1.2.2* This just started after iOS 14.2, ~11/24/20: HAs won’t connect to iPhone XR and app crashes on attempt to start. BEYOND HAs just went out of warranty (3 years). What is this? Is there a firmware update for HAs? App needs fix or update as this is inexcusable for a multi-thousand dollar device. HELP!!! UPDATE 12/2/20: I quickly received an email from Widex support with suggestions and the problem was fixed by following these instructions (iPhone XR, iOS 14.2): The Beyond app will work on an iPhone running the latest version of iOS. If you are having an issue with the Beyond app, try the following: Go to Settings > Beyond > make sure the option labeled “Bluetooth” is turned on Reinstall the app Restart your phone Disable Bluetooth on any other nearby devices (especially an iPad or an older iPhone) Re-pair your hearing aids: Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices Tap on the name of your hearing aids (if it says “searching, skip to step 4) Tap on “Forget this Device” and confirm you would like to forget them Place the hearing aids close to the iPhone. Open and close the battery doors on both hearing aids. The iPhone will then search for the hearing aids. Once the aids appear as “not connected” tap on “not connected” Select “Pair” for each hearing device when the pairing pop-up appears If you require further assistance you may reply to this e-mail or call us at 844-497-8844 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm Eastern). I left it at only 4 stars for the many times the Bluetooth connection drops when there are no other devices around. Still, tho’, very pleased. ### 4/5 — Good app but needs updating *2020-10-21, version 1.2.2* It would be great if you update the watch app portion to include a simple complication to place a shortcut for the app on your watch face. I use Apples Hearing Devices complication, but I’d rather use yours. Any chance you can update? Also, I’ve used Beyond aids for 18 months and haven’t seen any updates for them either.
