Do it with a proper wall power adapter if possible. I tried to upgrade from my synth (Deluge Synth) and it only worked once I plugged it. I’m removing a star because it should be mentioned on the app. If the devs update the app I will update my review. ### 3/5 — Works perfectly, but confusing *2021-10-07, version 1.4.2* The dialogue is a little confusing, but it works as it should for firmware updates. Thank you! ### 1/5 — Disappointed *2021-02-05, version 1.2.20* I was very excited to receive my WIDI Jacks in the mail. I downloaded the app and it asked me to update the firmware on the units. Now I cannot connect to the Jack. Does not instill confidence that this would be worthy for live use. I had such high hopes too. ### 2/5 — Needs work *2021-01-17, version 1.2.19* Very glitchy app. Need to restart app and even respring iOS device couple times to get App to connect and work properly. App locks up trying to do Firmware Update. No info popups provided in app so you have no idea at all where you are or what status might be. Finally take the chance of unplug WidiMaster from keyboard, replug, reset iOS Device Bluetooth several times (big song and dance, and not exactly musical pleasure at all!), respring iOS device, etc. Real PITA throughout. Try replug WidiMaster and reopen app, recognizes WidiMaster but then app locks up again. Restart app no help just instantly locks up again. Respring iOS device yet again. FINALLY get Upgrader Mode popup "please click update firmware and continue", click OK, scroll down to "Update Firmware" (again no info saying to do so, just guess on your own), click upgrade firmware, select version, now get Restart Bluetooth popup and yet again the WidiMaster App is locked up. Go restart Bluetooth on iOS Device, REPEAT all above and FINALLY get Upgrader to begin process. Once it begins it finally will complete the process (after 3rd or 4th reboot, respring, restart app, etc). Then you once AGAIN have to reset your iOS Device Bluetooth to reconnect AND restart the WidiMaster App couple times again to FINALLY connect. SHEESH! WAY too much song and dance. (And of course if you have more than one WidiMaster Device, you get to do the whole freaking dance all over and over again til complete. Sheesh!) **Also Bad in WidiMaster App: Touch anything in the app and it will change the setting there with no "Yes/No" option to accept or decline, or Revert to Default etc. So simply trying to swipe scroll the screen it you aren't careful you'll reset something. At least a couple things DO give a popup warning (like BLE role). These days most folks know not to mess around during device firmware upgrades or you can very quickly brick your device. With the WidiMaster you've no option but to jump off the cliff and unplug your WidiMaster, respring your iOS Device, Restart the WidiMaster app, etc, ALL during the upgrade process, and just hope for the best. THANKFULLY all still works and the process completes in the end without frying anything but it requires a complete leap of faith to complete the process and far too much fiddle all by guess and by golly. Sorry Devs, you have some app work to do here. Can’t create a group. *2024-03-31, version 1.6.4* When I click on Download Group the app completely disappears. ### 1/5 — Breaks the device *2023-10-30* The firmware update is the only option you have when you start the app. I left mine “updating” for an hour. Then a message: “the firmware update was aborted”. The Wido device has been bricked. I was able to update the firmware of my devices by following the advice on another review. Now my devices show up for a second or two and then disappear. There is a dialogue box that appears and tells you to turn off Bluetooth and turn it back on to “make this process working”. Which I did several times. It took a little bit of Trial and error. But once I was fluent in Standard “MIDI”. Specifically Applying The tools in practice. Then, and only then was I able to incorporate the CME “WIDI” Tools and make my world a lot less congested!!! LOL. THANK YOU CME For my Dope setup!! ### 5/5 — Great device. App works fine *2025-01-09, version 1.7.7* Great wireless midi interface device. App works as expected so far. I just waited a few mins and kept phone really close to the WIDI Master dongle. My setup of three MIDI devices worked well to pass clock wirelessly! Power from a USB-C power bank with a 9V barrel jack adapter. Boom nearly wireless keyboard that used to be barely usable on my desk. Nice! ### 5/5 — UPDATE: (Does not) Break the device *2023-10-31, version 1.6.4* UPDATE: the firmware update failed initially with an iPhone, but succeeded with an iPad. There seems to be a problem with Bluetooth cache in iOS. The device and app work great together. INITIALLY: The firmware update is the only option you have when you start the app. I left mine “updating” for an hour. Then a message: “the firmware update was aborted”. The Wido device has been bricked. It no longer connects to the app. Both the device and the app work together in this moment to guarantee that nothing works. ### 5/5 — Version 1.5.2 works great for WIDI Uhost firmware updates *2023-01-05, version 1.5.2* Version 1.5.2 works great for WIDI Uhost Bluetooth and USB firmware updates. I haven’t tried WIDI group auto learn yet (need an additional WIDI Uhost for iOS devices with MacBook Pro 13” M1). I’ll add to this review when I do that. ### 5/5 — Updating firmware works (3/9/22) *2022-03-09, version 1.4.28* Writing this review to say I updated the firmware on my UHost just now and it was super easy, very clear instruction with no problems. ### 5/5 — Read this for fixing Firmware update *2021-03-05, version 1.2.23* The WIDI Jack devices so far seem to work pretty well but the updating software for the firmware could use some better error recovery and clearer instructions. If your firmware update fails (or just simply hangs) I have found that the best thing to do is to turn off the device powering the jack and then completely close the app… Then go to Bluetooth settings and make sure to FORGET the device (AND FORGET any other WIDI device that you may have paired or updated previously). Also, turn off Bluetooth and then turn it back on again. Next, launch the app again and this time it will say something like with the updater… When you go into that it will say you must complete the firmware update… So click firmware update but then you’ll have an extra choice of some ‘beta’ firmware…You want to choose it, but will require a password, so just click cancel...Then choose the latest firmware that is not a ‘beta’ version and you should find that it will update…(choosing the bata version and cancelling seems to hrlp for some reason). Anyway, It may ask you to recycle your Bluetooth so just do that as well…The thing is, For some reason selecting the beta seems to help get the device to do the firmware update without hanging… Note: You may have to try this several times but I am certain that this process will eventually work as I have tested it several times on a number of the WIDI jacks. I have also tried rebooting the device while holding down the button on the Widi jack which might also help getting it into the right state (does seemed yo hurt). note: I don’t work for the company and the above is just what worked for me (on several different devices) so proceed at your own risk. ### 5/5 — Great product *2021-02-02, version 1.2.20* Simple setup, great way to reduce cables in the studio.
