Might be awesome for someone who has the hardware... which I do not. If developer included some neat or example features using the built-in WiFi nic in the iOS device, showing that the analysis would be better with the separate hardware, the app may have had some value. The developer should charge like $5 for the app. It would dissuade casual downloads; and not phase someone who would lay out $1500 for a WiFi analyzer. An app which was last updated 3 years ago and rests on its laurels while expecting you to buy expensive hardware, is asking a bit much of credulous buyers. If I’m going to buy hardware to permit my iPad to collect detailed WiFi information, I’ll buy from Metageek, who update their software more frequently. I already own a WiSpy for Mac/PC, and am satisfied with it. If I really need the same for the iPad, I’ll buy their hardware. Without the hardware purchase it DOES NOTHING, it should be renamed WFED-300AC partner app. Then no expectation would be created and no disappointment and no bad reviews. Do not waste your time downloading, I did because last negative review was 4 years old, so please mark this review as helpful so less people make the same mistake. It is sad that I can get an app that does the things shown in photos of this app on a laptop but not on an iPad. ### 1/5 — Not a standalone app. *2020-10-29, version 3.1.1* The app doesn’t work standalone. You need to have other scanners purchased and register with the app. ### 1/5 — NEEDs OTHER DEVICE. *2020-08-21, version 3.1.1* Don’t bother installing as it cannot do anything... ## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Superb Wi-Fi analyzer for the money!!! *2021-08-29, version 3.1.1* I ended up buying two of the hardware units (together they can do a lot more measurements then with only one hardware analyzer). The combination of both this iOS app when coupled with the hardware is a killer combination. The criticisms of the hardware are that it only works up to the 802.11ac standard and NOT the newer 802.11ax standard. However, if you have the hardware, it is a superb Wi-Fi measurement system. The negative feedback is from people whom don’t read the documentation and whom expect a true Wi-Fi analyzer but for 100% free. Sorry, but the age old saying is true, i.e., “...you get what you pay for...”. It is totally unfair to download a free app like this without reading up on it first to see if any hardware is required to make it work and then after they discover this they leave negative feedback since they desired something like this for free. As another age old saying goes: “...you can’t fix stupid...” I strongly recommend others disregard negative feedback comments on this app based on such baseless feedback. By the way, I also own. Metageek Wi-Fi analyzer too (another great Wi-Fi analyzer). ### 5/5 — Works great! *2020-10-23, version 3.1.1* This app works EXACTLY as advertised, which means it WILL NOT work without the hardware it is designed to work with. I’m using it in a security environment to troubleshoot problems with customer WiFi setups and it has already proved invaluable. Don’t believe any of the reviews that say it doesn’t work. ### 5/5 — See the unknown *2018-02-06, version 3.1.1* These analyzers work amazing. They give you the ability to see the WiFi spectrum in its entirety. No other devices on the market can do that. I once found a customers sound bar was destroying his entire network. Without this tool we would have never known the cause of his issues. ### 5/5 — Hardware needed for hard core deep packet analysis Wi-Fi troubleshooting *2015-11-23, version 2.0.7* Just so it's clear you will need to purchase the hardware to go with this software. As noted in the informational material provided. Your apple device(s) have no-where near the hardware capabilities to perform TRUE Wi-Fi troubleshooting. But once you have the hardware - it's very easy to analyze and evaluate the 802.11 environment - and make the necessary changes to improve wireless performance on all of your devices. If you are installing or maintaining Wireless networks in a residential or commercial environment - this is the only tool you'll need. ### 5/5 — I can read, apparently some can't... *2015-09-15, version 1.1.2* it plainly states in the write up that it requires a separate unit to work. don't put a 1-star rating because you're an idiot!
