## What is Wildfire Watch France?

Track wildfires across France in real time, entirely on your iPhone.

Wildfire Watch France shows you satellite-detected fire hotspots and officially confirmed incidents on one live map, with the current status, estimated area, and fire intensity for each. Tap any fire for satellite imagery, wind-driven spread direction, and observed drift over time.

SHOULD I BE WORRIED?
Save your home, a family member's address, or anywhere else you care about, and get a straight answer: how close is the nearest fire, is it heading your way, and what does the fire-weather risk look like right where you are, not just for your whole region. Risk is computed from official government fire-danger bulletins where available, a validated fire-weather model otherwise, and never a fabricated average.

AIR QUALITY, INCLUDING WHAT'S COMING
See current air quality plus a 24-hour smoke forecast, so you know if the air is expected to get worse before it does.

ALERTS THAT MEAN SOMETHING
Get notified when a new fire appears near a saved place, when one is officially confirmed, or when wind puts a fire on a path toward you or somewhere you saved. Not generic push notifications, only when something actually changed.

BUILT TO RUN ON-DEVICE
There is no account, no sign-up, and no backend server. Every computation, from risk scoring to spread prediction, happens on your iPhone. Your saved places and location never leave your device.

Also included:
• A historical archive of past fires, not just active ones
• A national fire-danger outlook and 48-hour trend for the most at-risk region
• Vegetation context for each fire from official forest inventory data
• Full French and English support
• A companion Apple Watch app showing fire risk at a glance

Wildfire Watch France is an independent safety companion. In an emergency, always follow official instructions and call 112.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-10-18

Wildfire Watch France now tells you how hot each fire is burning and what that means for you.

HEAT OUTPUT
Every fire shows the heat it is radiating, from minimal to extreme, with a plain-language reading of what that usually means, how many satellite passes and detections it rests on, and a trend over the last day: growing, steady, fading, or "not enough passes to say" when the evidence is thin.

A 24-HOUR OUTLOOK
See how readily a fire could spread over the next day and why: wind, humidity, temperature, recent rain, the official danger level and the vegetation, each one listed. A fire radiating extreme heat is never rated below High, and the card says when it was raised. It is a guide to conditions, not a forecast of where a fire will go.

CLOSER TO HOME
Saved places and your own location show the distance and compass direction of the nearest fire, whether you are downwind, the air quality, a rough smoke window and clear guidance on what to do and what not to do, with the emergency numbers one tap away.

QUIETER, SMARTER ALERTS
Get told when a fire near a saved place gets stronger, or when one appears near your own location, with quiet hours at night and a limit on how often you are alerted.

A new Today card summarizes your region, and the Apple Watch app and complication now show the nearest fire.

Your location and saved places stay on your device. The app now waits to ask for location or notification permission until you use something that needs it.

FIXES AND CARE
The official danger level is now used only while its bulletin is current, and the app shows how old it is. The app refreshes when you open it and says when its data may be out of date. Distances and temperatures start in kilometers and Celsius. When the wind is too light to tell which way a fire will spread, the app says so instead of guessing. Colored labels are easier to read.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-04

Fires now appear on the map within seconds of opening the app, with a clear message while they load. Wind speed and spread direction were missing from many fire cards and are now filled in reliably. The Mac app opens in a larger window.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-10-03

Every screen now explains what you are looking at. Fires are named after the nearest commune instead of a whole department, the map opens on all of France, and the personal risk check no longer shows a green all-clear when it has no data. Alerts for fires the wind may push toward your saved places are more reliable, including when the app is closed. The Apple TV app can now be fully navigated with the remote.
