## What is Wildwalks?

This app gives you access to topographic maps, tracknotes, photos, terrain profiles and heaps more information for nearly 1000 walks in NSW, check out the full collection of walks on www.wildwalks.com. The walks are found around Sydney, Blue Mountains, Kosciuszko NP and far south coast of NSW

The walks range from 3 mins strolls to multi-day hiking adventures.
Something for everyone from parents taking a stroll with their kids through to remote overnight hikes. Most walks are in National Park, State Forests or Council bushland reserves.

Every walk has a photo gallery, topographic map, terrain profile, tracknotes, details on getting to the trackhead, weather info, user feedback and more.

Download any of the walks and store the maps, photos and tracknotes on your iPhone. Once downloaded the information is still available for when you wander out of phone reception. And yes, there is a little blue dot on the map showing your GPS location, assuming you have a GPS on your device :)

Many walks are 'reversible'. So if the walk goes from Thornleigh to Hornsby, then click on the reverse this walk button and the tracknotes, maps and photo gallery will now take you from Hornsby to Thornleigh.

You can use the handy filter to choose walks based on public transport, length, grade, park or other criteria. Explore your walks in either list or map mode.

Any walk can be reviewed for 30 minutes for free. All wheelchair accessible and short walks can be downloaded and used for free. To download and use all other walks in the collection simply purchase a monthly ($2.99) or annual ($7.99) subscription. The subscriptions auto-renew, if you want to stop this please make sure you switch off the auto-renew at least 24hrs before it is due to renew. You can review our privacy policy here http://www.wildwalks.com/privacy

I hope you enjoy the app. It has been fun exploring these walks. I hope you enjoy the walks as much as I did, there are so many great places to explore. Happy walking

### 2/5 — Search

*2026-05-08, version 2.0.2*

Love the concept, and walk info is great once you find what you want, but can’t open walk info from map, very hard to filter by favourites, and hard to filter by area when map doesn’t specify which “area” a walk is in.

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2024-03-31, version 2.0.2*

Unable to open this app
After downloading on iOS - just keeps crashing.

### 4/5 — GpX

*2022-07-20, version 2.0.2*

Is there a way to download gpx file from the app?

### 3/5 — Website is great! App is just OK.

*2022-04-30, version 2.0.2*

First let’s talk about the good stuff:

The hikes on this app are extremely well documented with fantastic info about each walk. Bravo to the team who put this together. I found WildWalks first through their website and started printing out their guides before every hike. It’s a huge amount of work putting together detailed guides like this. Truly amazing. Thank you. The app is a good resource if you want a pocket version of the site.

Now the bad stuff:

I was surprised to see that you can’t see your GPS location on the downloaded maps as you’re going on a hike. This seems like the main promise of a mobile maps app and not very difficult to implement on a technical level. It’s a weird omission.

If you’re at a trailhead with multiple trails coming off it it’s sometimes difficult to tell which guide you should download. This is important because the guides are large files and wilderness locations often have poor connectivity.

There also isn’t a tab for easy access to tracks that you’ve already downloaded. This means you have to scroll through long lists to find a walk every time. It doesn’t load well if you’re offline either.

All up, it’s a great service and I’m happy to have pitched in a few dollars for a truly helpful resource. I just wish the app was a bit better developed so it could be more helpful. I think this could be a very successful service with a bit more work.

### 5/5 — Amazing! A huge gift to all who love nature

*2022-04-20, version 2.0.2*

Find nature walks presented on a clear map, see photos of key points on the walks, check National Parks warnings for the trail you choose before you head out, download the map to your phone so it’s all there when phone coverage lets you down. It’s all in one app. It’s brilliant. If I could give this six stars, I would. I’ve paid the annual fee to support the developer and unlock some handy features.

Apps like this are a labour of love. Thanks to the developer for doing this project and all the people who’ve chipped in a few dollars to help pay for it.

I have no connection to the developer, but I am someone who has connected with nature far more thanks to Wild Walks over several years. 🙏🍃

### 1/5 — No updates for 1yr? Can’t open the app

*2022-02-16, version 2.0.2*

Tried to update and it won’t update. Deleted the app and now I can’t re download it.

### 4/5 — Useful !

*2022-01-02, version 2.0.2*

Very useful, can't complain for a free app.. must be lots of work to maintain it..

### 3/5 — Needs improvement

*2021-10-24, version 2.0.2*

The app is useable but it’s missing important features such as list of favourites walks and search button. Overall it’s an ok app

### 2/5 — Half baked but still usable

*2021-07-18, version 2.0.2*

It’s a usable app for maps of walks to keep you on the right trail. That it will do. But searching for particular trails is such a basic omission. And the user interface once in the maps is very limited. I will keep using it, but I don’t think it’s had an update for some time if at all, a shame, because the wild walks website is very informative.

### 1/5 — App not working

*2020-10-04, version 2.0.1*

App not working over long weekend. What a shame. It doesn’t provide any suggestions in any area or NP I chose. Subscription definitely not expired. I do not recommend this app.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.2 — 2020-11-22

Updated for iOS 13-14, fixed bugs
See new search tool bottom of map page (requires internet access)
Fixed missing lines on map that happens on some versions of iOS.
Fixed some phones crashing with some walks.
Improved filtering performance.

### 2.0.1 — 2017-01-25

## 2.0.1 bug fixes for major release. Fixed timer problem on walk trial (now full 30mins). Fixed crashing on attempt to purchase subscription in app.
## If you have purchased walks on the old app please go 'update' page and tap 'Restore Purchases' to mark the walks you have already purchased as ready to download. -- this also works to update subscriptions on each of your iOS devices.

Whole new version and nicer design, re-built from the ground up.

By far the biggest feature request I have had is to get rid of the individual purchase per walk. Now you will find a much simpler, lower cost annual (or monthly) subscription that gives you access to all the walks. If you have purchased walks on the old app, they will be restored on this new version, even if you don't get the annual subscription. You will also find nice new and easier to read topographic maps. The walks summary page has more helpful information as well. You can still download shorter walks for free, and try any walk for 30 minutes, if you don't pay the subscription.

### 2.0 — 2017-01-11

### Sorry -- there are a few significant bugs in this release. Unfortunately, the app was accidentally released in test mode wich means the 30 min test timer expires in 30 seconds. There are a few other bugs that cause the app to crash as well. Plan to do a new release for Friday or Saturday -- probably best to wait.

### 1.2.0 — 2014-01-16

Upgraded for iOS7

### 1.1 — 2012-12-12

Updated for iPhone5 and iOS6.

Huge improved performance when downloading a new Walk List & checking for price updates. This was causing the app to look like it had crashed.

Actual walk prices are now in the initial database (A bug meant they where displaying high - a bit randomly).

Improved feedback at start of "Buy" (purchase) so you are not left wondering if the purchase has started or not.

Assorted small bug fixes.
