## What is Windigo Language App?

Windigo Language App
 
Developed by Windigo First Nations Council, the Windigo Language App is an Indigenous-led digital learning tool that supports the revitalization and reclamation of Anishinaabemowin and Anishininiimowin. Created for learners of all ages, this mobile app empowers users to engage with their languages through immersive, community-rooted, and culturally informed methods.
 
Designed by Anishinaabe and Anishininiiw language teachers, and voiced by Elders and fluent speakers from Windigo First Nations Council communities, the app blends Indigenous pedagogical frameworks on a mobile platform. At its core, the Windigo Language App is more than a learning app — it is a bridge back to community, culture, and identity.

### 1.4 — 2026-04-08

We’ve made several improvements to make learning clearer, smoother, and more focused for students :
- We’ve introduced a new font designed to improve readability and make vocabulary easier for learners to recognize.
- Answer confirmations now appear in their own dialog boxes, making it easier for students to see when they’ve selected the correct response clearly.
- Screen inputs are temporarily disabled during audio playback to help learners focus on listening and pronunciation.
- We’ve fixed several bugs and made general improvements to keep everything running smoothly.

### 1.3 — 2026-03-03

- We’ve been busy making the learning adventure even bigger, smoother, and more fun! 
- Six brand-new locations have been added to the map! Learners can now discover vocabulary at the airport, store, band office, nurse’s station, lake, and forest — each filled with new words to explore. 
- The kitchen has been refreshed and improved to make exploring and learning even more intuitive. 
- Selectable objects are now highlighted with a helpful pulsing dot, making it easier for learners to spot interactive elements. 
- Our Turtle friend has received a visual update and is looking better than ever! 
- We’ve added new vocabulary terms to the glossary to support even more learning opportunities. 
- Object hitboxes have been refined for smoother tapping and more responsive gameplay. 
- We’ve made a variety of usability improvements and fixed bugs to create a more seamless learning experience. cut this down so it fits in an android app release notes

Randomized the vocabulary prompts
Adjusted the vocabulary item touch-zones for school and home scenes
Made improvements to the language selection and format selection
Quashed a bug for users who use large text accessibility phone features

Updated the flag vocabulary image in the school scene
