Loved it *2021-12-31, version 1.4.0* Winding worlds was such a fun experience. When I downloaded it I didn’t expect for it to be so meaningful. This game reminded me how I’m not alone, every body experiences emotional struggles. Although I did play through the whole game rather quickly. Overall I think it is an amazing game and I loved playing it. ### 5/5 — This is everything *2021-09-05, version 1.4.0* I was surprised to love this game, after only a couple chapters. The entire aesthetic - from the colors to the dialogue - is so wonderful and relaxing while also making me feel. It reminds me of another game called Gravity Ghost, though unlike that, WW doesn’t make me motion-sick and I don’t think will leave me feeling depressed, haha. Thank you for this game! ### 5/5 — Meaningful, special, relatable *2021-08-06, version 1.4.0* Ok I was not expecting this game to be anything special I thought it would be just a cute puzzle game but it is definitely so much more then that. I ended up crying at the end cause it actually made me realize that I dont need to help everybody and that Im just like everyone else and so that responsibility does not fall onto me. The last chapter I actually just stared at my phone for a little bc while the character was moving on I was too! I highly recommend this game, if you want a fun interactive while also highly emotional and meaningful game. Honestly I think that everyone can learn a little from the message within the game. It made me laugh, smile, and even tear up a little. I loved it so much and the over all message resonated with me a lot. Often times I forget to set boundaries on helping other or I tend to give to much of myself. But not just the story and message and characters where amazing, I also adore the art style and music. Winding Worlds is just absolutely lovely. <3 ### 5/5 — Mental Health Awareness *2021-01-20, version 1.3.1* This is not only a puzzling game, but a beautifully written story. It really helped me with my mental health. I didn’t quite understand it at first, but in the end, I realized it had a moral to it. Life isn’t always easy, so you try to make others lives easier, and in time it seems you’re doing a good thing, but really just wearing yourself down. We must never forget that we matter too, even if we are doing absolutely nothing for others. Thank you for this. I really needed it. ♥️ ### 5/5 — Interactive Mental Health *2021-01-08, version 1.3.1* I think I echo several reviews that I’m not much for leaving reviews but as soon as I finished it I had to write one. This a hidden gem and as someone who has a degree in counseling I just loved the sublime way in which the game allows the player to learn about self care, grieving, self-esteem, and other personal growth themes. I want to share it with everyone and I’m sort of sad it’s in Apple Arcade because I know it becomes a little harder to share and be compatible but again it’s amazing. ### 5/5 — Pure joy *2020-11-13, version 1.3.1* Like so many other reviewers of this game, I rarely write reviews. I downloaded this game to quickly check that our family plan activation was successful. I was drawn in by the cute icon but everything about this game is stunning. I usually hate when there is sound on during a game but this game has the sweetest music and I love the dialog noises. My only complaint? There’s no more levels and I finished playing in less than 24 hours. I loved the deeper meanings and the clever stories ### 5/5 — Sad and happy at the same time five stars *2020-10-05, version 1.3.1* Hands down best game ever made on mobile the story line is so much fun and it happy and sad at the same time i love this game and normally never rite reviews but this game was so amazing and so sad it almost made me cry I love the end and my favorite level is so sad and I know that I’m saying that it sad multiple times but it’s just so amazing make sure you give the game five stars and give enough support so make a second game I would love if the make a Second one ### 5/5 — Amazing *2020-09-22, version 1.3.1* I can’t begin to describe how great this game is! It’s not only beautifully designed and has a beautiful soundtrack, it has an amazing lesson! I will say, I think there may be a bug in (funnily enough, the part about bugs) Toni’s section. In the beginning of their part, they are addressed with they/them pronouns, but in the end they’re addressed with he/him pronouns. Also in the last stage, their name isn’t spelled "Toni" it’s spelled "Tony". But overall great! ### 5/5 — Please tell me I’m not the only one... *2020-09-17, version 1.3.1* Please tell me that I am not the only one who balled like a baby because it hit me so hard in the feels that I had to take a break halfway through to gain some perspective. I am an empath and I related so hardcore to this game that is so much more than a puzzle game...esoteric and eccentric and very abstract in it’s design, it takes you on a roller coaster ride of deep, dark issues that beg to be addressed in today’s world of uncertainty. What I thought was a beautifully designed puzzle game turned out to be life lessons with things I think a lot of people in my generation struggle with. Our world is dying and everything we thought we knew about it might not be the same when it is our turn to take the journey. This teaches about life, death, grief, guilt, self-care and reflection on priorities. When I say this game had me “shook”, I meant it... TBH I beat it already but I couldn’t take much more emotionally anyways. Everyone needs to play this. I’ve never felt more alone and more helpless than now. This game helped me help others and in turn... help myself. Every message this storyline brings is just an immersive healing experience. Winding Worlds is incredibly short and very much worth your time. Yes it’s cute and charming and funny but it’s also a surprisingly deep touch on issues of mental health and self worth. As someone that has had painful experiences in areas of codependency and depression brought on by compassion fatigue this game snuck up on me. It’s more of an experience so if you’re here strictly for some deep mechanics and challenging gameplay this might not be for you. But if you want to do some inner thinking and healing then please give it some attention. ### 5/5 — Short but I liked it! *2020-08-26, version 1.3.1* We are all picky about games we want to play but I enjoyed this one. It was nice to be able to resume where you left off. But when it was done, I was surprised that I had finished it again. It makes you think and though trying to get the right perspective takes a bit for an older mom mind, it was definitely good for the brain and has a good message entwined into it. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 2/5 — It’s bad *2022-02-24, version 1.4.0* Sorry. I get what you’re going for, lock tumbling mechanism as gameplay. But it’s awful. Feels bad. Feels wrong. It’s slippery and fidgety and unpredictable, and that’s only during the parts where you get to “play” it. The rest is skipping through dialogue box after dialogue box of conversations that don’t matter. I hate the main character. Just a total moron who lives in a creepy dead universe. There’s one part of the game that feels kind of good, the part where you’re like a hockey guy in space? But otherwise, yuck. Read Tim Rogers’s article on sticky friction. This game should have constant haptic feedback- like an actual lock- and instead of that it has nothing. You’d get motion sick and throw up if you weren’t careful. ### 2/5 — Don’t forget it’s a game? *2020-05-16, version 1.1.0* Don’t get me wrong. Love the graphics and style. It’s a beautiful game to look at. But it almost has an RPG-style story pacing that’s pretty slow and clumsy. And it doesn’t really support the gameplay in a fun way. Just tries a bit too hard to be story intensive. By the time you get to the actual gameplay aspect, you’re so disoriented by all the story bits that you don’t always realize it’s time to do something. And while I suppose they qualify as puzzles, they feel more like playing with a really neat pop up book than an actual game. It’s not so much a mind thing with fun mini games or brain teasers so much as remembering gestures. Though I see the potential and some of the puzzles were kinda fun. Just a lot more storytelling than I expected, eclipses the gameplay a lot. And the gameplay could be could be a bit more engaging. This will be great for maybe preteens? ### 3/5 — Not bad game but could do better *2022-02-01, version 1.4.0* It was a short game with a meaningful lesson and I would say advice to oneself. I like the psychological aspect of it. A very different game from any others I have played. I Like the atmosphere, the colors, the cute art/graphics, and low soothing background music. But the only reason I gave it a three stars because I just hated the game mechanics, it is just so annoying that i got anxiety while playing this game. Trying to circle things around was so difficult because at times it just won’t move or it was an awkward movement. Sometimes the circle won’t move or stop or even just lag. The game was also very short, wish it was longer with more story play to it and more characters instead of a circle going round all the time. Also the game does not save at all not a good thing. ### 4/5 — A touching and cute healing journey *2022-04-28, version 1.4.0* A brief but impactful game... The witty dialogue made me laugh and the overall message spoke to me. Cute art style and relaxed gameplay. I only took a star off because the controls could use some work in my opinion, and were kinda frustrating at times (quite finicky). My thanks and my love goes out to the folks behind this game. :) ### 4/5 — Nice game, but really needs a touch sensitivity option *2021-07-17, version 1.4.0* My wife and I both played this with our shared Arcade sub. As an experienced game player, I’m able to come to grips with what the game is asking, which is making VERY small, subtle touch-sliding adjustments in both left/right and up/down directions. But my wife, who only plays games occasionally and was attracted to the game’s art style, was having a very hard time progressing and gave up past the first level. Watching her play and get frustrated, I realized this is because the touch controls, by default, are MUCH too sensitive, and the littlest slides can send your character and other things careening and orbiting around wildly on the screen. If you’re someone who only plays games here and there, this gives you no real chance to actually process and understand what’s happening, and what the game is asking of you. Which is a shame, because the writing, pacing and puzzles in this game are nice and low-pressure; there’s no real need to have the touch sensitivity jacked up this high by default. So maybe change what the default touch sensitivity is, and add an option to increase it for people that want to change it. Also make the “hotspots” where you need to tap slightly easier to trigger. You just might get my wife to finish the game if you do. =] ### 4/5 — Awesome game but one problem *2020-11-23, version 1.3.1* This is a VERY good game and I hope other people like it a lot, but one thing that’s hard for me idk about other people but I usually don’t remember what happens when I swipe horizontal or vertical. Not such a big problem but still. I think it would be nice if you added something in any corner that tells you what happens if you do a certain something (this is a suggestion) ### 4/5 — The graphics are soo cute! *2020-05-15, version 1.0.1* I was really surprised by the graphics, they are so cute, the characters are also really cute, and their dialogues can be really funny! This game kind of teaches lessons per each “level” you complete. I will say that although this game is hands on, which is good, the controls take a bit of time to get used to. I was confused in the beginning, I’m getting better though as I’m playing the game. I think everybody should at least try the first level and see if they like the game! ### 5/5 — Beautifully done *2023-03-02, version 1.4.0* This game is fantastic from the cute art to the lesson we learn through helping those we find in each world as well as the lesson the character we play as learns. While all messages are simple and considered to be widely known, it’s astounding just how hard it is to practice what we know to be true. Especially when it comes to willow’s lesson. Honestly I would say this is one of my favorite mobile games though I do love games with themes such as winding worlds. Games that show our main characters struggling with real world issues be it something physical or mental. Though, I guess I came to love these games more after playing How lost world: Beyond the page, another game that is my favorite for PS4. ### 5/5 — Ya cut me deep, Shrek *2023-02-10, version 1.4.0* Came for the mechanics and artsy design, stayed for the moral(s) of the story. Never knew an witty little indie game would hit so hard. This app is 90% story, 10% gameplay for all the “the controls are terrible” people. So clear out 3 hours of your day, grab the box of tissues by the 3rd level or so, and enjoy. 10/10 would recommend. Well done ### 5/5 — Amazing message, fun puzzles, wish it was longer *2022-11-08, version 1.4.0* When I got this game I thought it would just be a fun little puzzle game, but as the story unfolded I became more invested in the character and her story and the world she was in. This game is a beautiful illustration for how good intentions don’t always have good endings for everyone involved. I only wish this game had more, and the story was longer or there was a sequel, etc. I could play these styles of puzzles for hours, they’re novel, a little tricky sometimes, and creative. ## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Therapy for everyone *2022-10-16, version 1.4.0* I’m an acute psych patient, I’ve been in therapy my whole life and I’m constantly helping people and never getting help in return. Still working through a lot of ptsd and a mood disorder. Sometimes it really does feel like a parasite. This game is one of a kind for sure, when I saw the title of the last level I knew it was going to be heavy but wow. I mean wow. Beautiful game and it looks great. This is a 10/5 for me. I don’t think I have much to say that hasn’t been touched upon in other reviews, but there was one thing I wanted to mention. I like the fact the game devs+writers never showed the characters directly lashing out or harming others with their struggles. There’s a lot of media out there about helping others or understanding their emotional turmoil that goes out of its way to show characters at their lowest points lashing out in incredibly intense, frightening ways, but sideline the trauma inflicted on peers by these characters for the sake of showcasing a certain character dilemma. Winding Worlds really breaks the mold in this aspect as it shows the emotional turmoil of its characters in a more controlled setting with greater emphasis on self-reflection and reparations. ### 5/5 — Things I Needed to Hear *2022-02-13, version 1.4.0* Winding Worlds was credibly easy to understand, with simple controls and storylines for its puzzles. Within its puzzle mechanic, which is something I love and games, a story was very carefully interwoven. The stories that Winding Worlds tells are very humanistic, and they encapsulate messages that I think everyone needs to hear. They are affirmations, reassurances, encouragements, and acknowledgments of the struggles that everyone faces.
