## Newest reviews (11 of 59)

### 2/5 — Prepare yourself

*2023-07-05, version 1.4.1*

Not only is this an app review but the park review. Very little if ANY trail maintenance. Trail 57?? Take your chainsaw and rubber boots

### 1/5 — Not free

*2021-12-19, version 1.3.1*

Don’t say the app is free when you charge $7 for a week of map access. This is just a shameful cash grab. Anyone with a brain will grab your free paper maps.

### 1/5 — Poor customer experience

*2021-11-29, version 1.3.1*

I can’t believe that they charge money for this app AND it is a subscription. This should be free with your paid admission. This type of pricing makes me rethink going to the park.

### 1/5 — Seriously??

*2021-11-05, version 1.3.1*

20$ to view the trail map. 20$ every year just to see a map that is offered free in many locations. Just a shame honestly. 1/10.

### 1/5 — Fees

*2021-09-05, version 1.3.0*

Absolutely a rip-off to download the app to find you have to pay an additional fee to get the map!!! You all are absolutely raping people.

### 1/5 — Not going to pay $20/year

*2021-04-07, version 1.2.1*

Not going to pay 20 bucks a year for the trail map on top of paying $120 for my annual trail pass.

### 1/5 — Subscription fee

*2021-02-07, version 1.2.1*

The subscription fee is way too hefty for what it is, there should not be A subscription fee at all, I’d rather just pay for the app once and be done

### 1/5 — Be prepared to lose $10

*2021-01-02, version 1.2.1*

DO NOT BUY THIS. Don’t be stupid like me and skim reviews only to find yourself having to write one. For starters, this map is severely overpriced and should just be included with the purchase of the ticket. Second, IT NEVER DOWNLOADED. So I payed for a blank app screen that says and I quote “downloading map files”. Save yourself some money and internal condemnation and just wing it.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2020-12-31, version 1.2.1*

How do I get a refund on this broken app?

### 1/5 — Wants me to pay for another year when it should not run out for 7 more months

*2020-11-22, version 1.2.1*

Need to make the app free for at least a year so we don't have to purchase again.

### 3/5 — Map Restored

*2020-11-03, version 1.2.1*

I bought an annual map subscription on June 26, 2020 and it would no longer load on October 31, 2020. I went to the WindRock Park office and they put me in touch with the right person to resolve the issue. The app is again working as designed.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paid but No Map

*2026-08-11, version 2.0.3*

Do not buy a map on this app. Never received it, no instant download…absolutely nothing. Of course I was charged and am waiting for a refund. Negative stars. Waste of time.

### 1/5 — Suggested enhancements

*2025-08-02, version 2.0.2*

Overall a useful app, oils be GREAT with a few enhancements. 1) Larger icon for current location. Blue dot is hard to see at a glance 2) Support for direction up. North up, is harder to use when moving. Adds to #1 3) Details show at higher zoom level. The current offline download is tiny, only 133Mb .So higher resolution tiles will be of little consequence on modern devices.

### 1/5 — “Pay to get in, pay to know where to go”

*2025-06-01, version 2.0.2*

Ridiculous that they charge additional just to get a map after you’ve already paid to get in. Good thing most trails are on Trails Offroad and OnX. Don’t waste your money here.

Update: under duress, bought the app anyway and I’m disappointed. Many trails names are not given, just the number. So if someone tells you a trail name you may not find it on the trail index list.

Other important features that should be added:
• enable/disable map grid overlay when zoomed in
• tapping on a item on Index and Points of interest should center and zoom in that item in the map.

### 1/5 — Overpriced

*2023-10-07, version 1.4.1*

With how much I’m spending just to camp and gain access to the trails I shouldn’t have to also spend $20 on a map that should be free. There are other other apps that are either free or have maps for the whole US that are much better.

### 1/5 — Just release the GPX files

*2023-06-19, version 1.4.1*

Someone studied the Disney model of monetization. Dollars to get in and dollars to get around.

We don’t need anymore crapola apps on our devices, either.

I think I’ll go ride the KAT or the DBBB instead.

### 1/5 — Not free and bad quality

*2022-12-06, version 1.3.1*

Useless “free” app that cost $20 a year to use with a high failure rate and won’t work on multiple devices

### 1/5 — Worst map ever

*2022-11-20, version 1.3.1*

Don’t fall for buying the map. It’s terrible. They hide all road names so you can’t even tell where you’re at. Just go online and get a free map app to download

### 1/5 — Have to pay to view trail maps

*2022-08-14, version 1.3.1*

Why should you pay for a trail map? How is anyone supposed to plan a trip?

### 1/5 — Price gouging

*2022-04-07, version 1.3.1*

It’s a free app to download. But once you download and open the app you have to pay 9.99-19.99 to even use it? The only thing I wanted the app for was to access the map. The other features you can do on their website for free. I guess I’ll just use their paper map when I get there. If they were just up front and made it, idk 7.99 in the App Store, then you have access to the maps, I’d be totally cool with that. It’s some shady business that they’re doing it this way. I’m well aware that windrock likes to nickel and dime you for literally everything. But come on. There’s a line. This is a little much. And according to the other reviews, even if you do pay for it, the app doesn’t even work properly. Save you money, use a different geo map.

### 1/5 — No way to get maps

*2022-03-19, version 1.3.1*

Mad open to a spot with nothing there on apple just not good can’t buy or nothing

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Perfect for Windrock

*2024-12-18, version 1.4.4*

This is the best way to get around the trails at Windrock. Most up to date map out there. The little blue dot follows you! You can’t get lost!

### 5/5 — Works really well

*2024-05-23, version 1.4.3*

I really like this app, we actually have lifetime trails map and I prefer this over them for this park. We had zero issues with it. If you’re hesitant check the review date. It has improved since originally released.

### 5/5 — Best map for windrock park

*2024-02-01, version 1.4.2*

This is very good map for the park and a big step up from the huge paper maps.

Keeping the phone from locking while in the app would be a great update. This way I can keep the map open and not have to constantly unlock my phone.

### 5/5 — Still working great for me

*2023-04-08, version 1.4.1*

I bought this about a year ago and it still works great. I expect to have to pay for another year soon but will because it is worth it to have something that is easy to use and is very reliable.

### 5/5 — App Works great on iPhone & apple iPad ( must be GPS version )

*2022-11-23, version 1.3.1*

The app will give you access to windrock park map with detail trails numbers that you can follow for easy navigation while showing your location on the map. ( iPad need to have GPS so it must be a cellular version )
I was able to download the app to my iphone and download it also to my iPad ( i only paid once ) both apps are working great. 11/23/22

### 5/5 — Great use!

*2022-09-09, version 1.3.1*

We were able to interactively see where we were and make changes due to GPS! Very good purchase.

### 5/5 — Works good on my iPhone

*2020-10-31, version 1.2.1*

I downloaded the latest version 1.2.1 and installed on my iPhone Xs and it works perfectly now. I understand that there was a problem recently with a corrupt database but now it’s fixed. I find this app to be very helpful. It will not work on an iPad that is non-cellular because there is no GPS chip in those iPad WiFi only tablets.

### 4/5 — CarPlay support would be great!

*2023-08-30, version 1.4.1*

Would be really nice to be able to hook this to the stereo in the Jeep so we weren’t staring at a small phone screen while navigating the trails.

### 4/5 — Check dates on reviews

*2023-06-15, version 1.4.1*

Before making a decision on whether to download the app or not, be sure to check dates on the negative reviews. Most of them are from the early stages of release. Make sure you subscribe when you have internet access for best download of the map. I recently downloaded and used this app for a trip to Windrock to run Panther Rock trail 51. Anyone that’s been to the park knows how big it is and how many intersecting trails there are. The general store offers a paper map for $7, for me the $20 price for one year of active map use was worth it. Knowing where you are on the trail and not just looking for the next trail sign was very helpful. The park also has multiple maintenance offshoots that can be confusing for first time visitors. There are also points of interest locations and trail information data all on the the app. The clear color markings of the trails will help you avoid the double black diamond trails that don’t look so bad in person, at least not at the trail entrance. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the fact that the map doesn’t move with your location. You have to move the map to keep your location pin in view. It would be nice if the orientation would change with direction also. It is locked in a north south orientation like a paper map set on a table.

### 4/5 — Still working great for me

*2020-04-22, version 1.1.2*

I bought this about a year ago and it still works great. I expect to have to pay for another year soon but will because it is worth it to have something that is easy to use and is very reliable.
