## What is Winnipeg Signal?

Winnipeg Signal is your daily heads-up for everything that could get in the way of your day in one fast, private app built only for Winnipeg.

Each morning it pulls together the disruptions that actually matter where you are, so you find out before you're standing at a closed lane or a detoured bus stop.

WHAT IT WATCHES FOR
• Road and lane closures ranked by how close they are to you
• Transit reroutes and delays leading with the affected bus route, not the cause
• Parking bans and snow-route clearing
• Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection days with a countdown to your next pickup
• Weather warnings, temperature and "feels like"
• Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)
• Major local events that can snarl traffic and parking

BUILT FOR YOUR DAY
• A single "City Signal" that tells you at a glance whether today is Clear, Watch, Caution or Disrupted
• Nearby disruptions anchored to your real GPS location
• A commute scan and step-by-step transit trip planner
• A live dark map with every closure, pin and your saved places
• Garbage/recycling reminders the night before
• Travel-mode aware drivers, transit riders, cyclists and walkers see what's relevant to them

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No account, no ads, no tracking across other apps
• Your saved places and preferences stay on your device
• One tap to delete all your data

REAL, OFFICIAL DATA
Winnipeg Signal is powered by official open data from the City of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Transit, and Environment and Climate Change Canada the same sources the city publishes, brought together and made glanceable.

Winnipeg Signal is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the City of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Transit, or the Government of Canada. Always follow posted signs, signals, and the direction of officials on the ground.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-24

Tonight in Winnipeg: fresh picks every week for where to eat, a night away, and what's on after dark. See how far each spot is from you, vote with a thumbs up or down, and read notes from other readers.
Reader notes are reviewed before they appear. You can remove a note you sent, and report any note that doesn't belong.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-21

Police news is easier to read. The headline now sits across the full width of the card instead of being cut off partway, and it holds still long enough to read rather than scrolling past.

The city alert and police news sections no longer sit right on top of each other moving at the same speed, which made them hard to tell apart.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-20

New: Police news. Recent news releases from the Winnipeg Police Service now appear on the Today screen, in their own section separate from city alerts. Tap any headline to read the full release on winnipeg.ca.

Fixed: city alerts were not coming through. Fire responses, gas leaks and road disruptions posted by the City were being dropped before they ever reached the app. They show up again now.

Better road coverage. The app now picks up City notices about traffic changes, detours, lane closures and service interruptions, not just full closures.

Smaller fixes to how headlines and timestamps are shown.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-17

Emergency awareness update.

When a serious provincial emergency alert covers Winnipeg, the Today screen now shows an amber heads-up banner pointing you to the official Manitoba Ready app for details. On a quiet day you will not see it at all.

New Manitoba Hydro power outage card on Today: see at a glance how many outages are active in Winnipeg and which neighbourhoods are affected, with a tap-through to Hydro's official outage map.

Small layout refinements on the Today screen.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-12

Privacy and reliability update.

Clearer wording about how the app uses your location, right in the app and in our privacy policy.

Your saved places now stay strictly on your phone. They are excluded from cloud backups, so they never leave the device.

Address lookups are faster thanks to smarter caching, and the app's connection to our servers got an extra layer of abuse protection.

Under-the-hood security hardening throughout.
