I used the app on the Camino last year and it was great, but now it appears the update has reduced the user friendliness ### 3/5 — Not helpful *2026-04-19* Currently on Frances. I cannot set daily starting points as the app always seems to think I am one place further than I actually am and everything “behind” me is erased. Hard to read names of places, lettering is so small. What is the point of “favorite” an albergue if it doesnt show as a fave on the map? So many ways this could be improved to be useful. OTOH, the CF is marked so well you dont really need an app. ### 4/5 — Almost perfect *2026-03-11* Updated to the new App this morning. Looks great and can’t wait to use it on the Camino in April. Pretty useless **Developer response:** I would like to know which towns are missing that you know to exist, there are a hundreds of ‘places’ that you pass through that are nothing more that a paint of houses. To include all of them (no guidebook does) would be a real pain to the user. But if there is a town on the Camino that you feel needs to be included… my contact info is in the app. ### 3/5 — Useful, though buggy and incomplete *2023-09-28* Has been handy for maps, info and accommodation, though lacks completeness of places to stay and Camino Complimentario sections, map is occasionally inaccurate, user comments are often in the wrong section (town rather than Albergue etc). It plots out all the main stretches on the map. All the albergues that you need on the route. The map is accurate. The app is basic, but it’s really all you need. Simple is better in book. Although it’s generally good, and relatively easy to navigate, it desperately needs to be updated. The presentation, content and the homepage of the app need a fresh look to make it more appealing. Walk the Camino with your app from Triacastela to Santiago and update your routes which already existed in 2019. Honestly, for a App I have to pay EUR 5, I expect at least Yearly updates. Poor, poor, poor ### 5/5 — Perfekt für den Jakobsweg *2020-07-17* Ich habe von diesem Anbieter alle Apps der Jakobswege und bin knapp 8.000 km mit diesen in Spanien und Portugal gewandert. Die App ist übersichtlich und sehr einfach zu bedienen. Zudem gibt es regelmäßig Updates mit Verbesserungen. Ich bin Begeistert und kann diese nur empfehlen. ### 5/5 — Super-useful walking aid *2020-07-10* Most useful for me were the offline map and the user albergue reviews. The first helped me numerous times to keep my bearings even when I couldn’t count on a cellular connection. The camino is well-marked but even so there are plenty of points when I got a little turned around, and this offline map helped me get back on track. The second was invaluable for choosing where to stay at night. I didn’t always choose only based on this guide but I often benefited from warnings of a bedbug issue or else just glowing comments about a given albergue. It lef me to many wonderful places and people. A third praiseworthy thing that occurs to me is the local historical and cultural info given on many towns. It gave me things to look out for or ways to appreciate where I was and what I was seeing. This context offered good reminders since it was often easy to forget about everything except the matter of walking, eating, and sleeping (of course that was good in its own way). I did use a print guide also and google from time to time so I cannot say what a Camino would be like using only this app guide. Regardless, I am very glad I had it (I still look at it from time to time to remember the experience). ### 5/5 — Great! Simple, and comprehensive. *2019-09-12* I don’t see an option to contact the developer, either through the app or the website, so I’m posting a feature request and tiny bug report here; 1/ feature request; it would be great to have a scale marker on the maps so one can judge the distances. 2/ big report; the page for Najera, in the La Rioja section, comes up blank when connected to the internet. When offline, it works fine. I haven’t noticed this affecting any other page so far. Thanks for a great handy app! ### 4/5 — Great app but could use one more thing.. *2019-06-23* This app was great on the CF, used it everyday for the map and to find Accom. Can you please include in your next addition whether an Albergue will allow you to pitch a tent and also the cost for use of showers and toilets? And also if there is a safe place/locker to leave your pack while you’re out after settling in? Sehr schade, falls nicht:( ### 1/5 — Not ready for prime time *2018-10-09* A little bit more development would have made this a great app. It appears to have been rushed to market without a final proof. Lots of distance errors, the online map is worthless because the map symbols overlay the route making it impossible to use. Distance to any destination apparently is as the crow flies, not matching the apps text descriptions. It is necessary to drag along a competitive guide to double check whatever this guide tells you. Each time I open it the app immediately quits. ### 1/5 — Comments *2017-06-06* Comments on albergues not working on Frances app. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Indispensable *2026-07-06* I have used the Wise Pilgrim apps on all of my Caminos including the Camino Frances (2023), Camino Portuguese and Finisterre (2024) and Camino Frances (2026). This app is indispensable. The maps are excellent, easy to follow, and they show more options than other apps. Many informative village descriptions help me understand why places are important and what to look for. I especially rely on the accommodation comments by other users which help me decide where I want to stay. And a recent upgrade added a stage planning feature, notes, and many user interface improvements. I would not walk a Camino without a Wise Pilgrim app. Highly recommended. ### 5/5 — Struggling with update *2026-03-11* I’ve used and found the app extremely useful on 3 Caminos. I am about to walk again, starting at Leon and am struggling with seeing how I freeze my location, it keeps taking me back to SJPP. Can’t see how I turn off play mode in settings. Otherwise the updates look great. ### 5/5 — Casa Morgade *2025-05-14* 13 May 2025. Stayed here for our first night after a damp and muddy trek through the beautiful Galician countryside. This place was all we could have wished for. Rustic charm and a very welcoming fire. The menu of the day was three courses - delicious and very reasonably priced. Washing facilities and a welcoming and helpful atmosphere. Spotlessly clean. ### 5/5 — Found useful *2025-05-09* Found this app very useful along with GPS practically impossible to get lost would be good if there was a way to update Alburgue and hostels that have appeared since and wether they accept reservations this year with Holly week it would certainly have helped. You must book ahead over a week in advance when close to the 100 kilometre mark and booking. Com always seems to have nothing where you need it and those available are always near or over€100. ### 5/5 — A must for the Camino Frances *2024-05-27* This app was the best $5 I’ve ever spent. It has a useful list of albergues and hotels for every city, pueblo and village on the Camino - with reviews to help you decide. Be sure to use the WhatsApp helper feature - you tell it how many people and what date, and it creates a WhatsApp message in Spanish to request a reservation. I use this feature frequently. But the best feature is the map. It shows your location overlayed on a map of the trail. Not sure if you’re on track? Check the app. It will either reassure you or help you correct your course. I have consulted it frequently on the trail and have never gotten lost. Don’t listen to the old, negative reviews. The app is stable, doesn’t crash, and helps you navigate better than any guidebook. ### 5/5 — Really useful *2023-05-22* Used daily on my Camino from SJPP.
