## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Inconsistent Performance

*2019-12-07*

This app abruptly stops the audio and, as another reviewer observed 2 years ago, you have close the app and reopen it or completely delete it and reinstall it to get it to work

Please update the app and correct this problem

### 2/5 — Love NPR. This app not so much!

*2023-02-06*

Keeps cutting out every couple of minutes then it reconnects and I have to listen to the ad for Conrad Siegel again. Very frustrating.

### 3/5 — It’s fine

*2025-03-19*

Lots of content, but it definitely emphasizes watching/listening. I get it - watching and listening is what public broadcasting is all about. BUT - interfacing with an app is a visual/reading experience. I would use the app more if the layout and design was more magazine-like so that the reading experience was also enjoyable.

### 3/5 — Live stream not working

*2024-01-25*

The live stream has not been working at all recently, since the latest iPhone software upgrade. Looks likes it’s loading, twice, but never connects.

### 3/5 — Finicky

*2019-05-25*

This is the most finicky app I have on my phone. Constantly dropping when I move around. The only solution is to close it and reopen only to have it happen again minutes later. Very frustrating.

### 4/5 — Informed and entertained.

*2024-01-28*

The WITF app is one I use daily and often during the day to keep me informed and entertained. I only had one glitch recently and after e-mailing the station regarding it, the glitch was gone. Thank you, NPR and WITF. ~PENNSYLVANIA, THE KEYSTONE OF THE UNION~

### 4/5 — Useful and usable

*2023-10-23*

It’s great to have. My only complaint is that when driving, I guess switching cells or something, initiates the sponsorship message which plays over the programming so you miss part of it.

### 4/5 — Alarm clock feature is good, but could be great

*2023-02-18*

This app works well. The alarm clock feature is very useful from me because the radio signal is weak where I live and so a convention alarm clock radio often only plays static rather than the actual program. I use an old phone connected via Wi-Fi, so it is dedicated to be used only for this purpose.

But the alarm has to be set every night. It would be much better if the alarm could be set once and go off every morning. I don’t know if that is an IOS limitation or if the app feature could be modified to accomplish that.

### 4/5 — Love WITF/NPR

*2017-08-09*

The new App has been working great for months, up until recently. It keeps cutting out for no reason. I have to close the App and reopen, it's frustrating bc I end up missing large chucks of the news. I think there may be a bug or issues pushing out the signal.

### 5/5 — Functional and reliable

*2024-10-12*

I use the app most of the time, except when driving. When I’m traveling, I can always get local news.
Only small issue: on the iPhone it cuts out every few minutes for a few seconds, then picks up again.
Maybe it’s caused by a problem with our WiFi or the phone… ?

## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great improvements

*2023-02-01*

Thanks for the updates! The app works great. I feel like some of my lag issues have gone away. The layout makes sense to me and I appreciate the added information in the app.

### 5/5 — Great alternative to over the air radio

*2019-02-23*

I downloaded to listen online since the over the air signal is occasional fuzzy.

The use interface is perfect and the app is lightweight if that’s all you need to do.

### 5/5 — Love the new WITF app!! Does it all!

*2017-05-04*

I live in Berks County just on the fringe of the WITF territory and reception always been iffy.
There are other stations, but WITF has the best regional news and NPR content so I was determined to get my daily fix.
I bought an antenna, and figured out how to hook it up in my attic but without much improvement.
Finally, I hooked up my phone to an old Bose Wave radio's AUX jack and used WIFI to get better sound at home. Unfortunately, the old app was quirky and crashed all the time.
The new WITF app is fast and solid. It has a huge Play button so it is easy to turn the stream on and off (big plus for older eyes) - just like having a switch.
Sounds great thru that old Bose! When I drive out of range, it can play thru the Bluetooth in the car.
While it is true that in a jam you can get WITF on the NPR News app (plus others), it is finicky and time consuming to drill down to get access.
An added bonus the app has the full WITF website with a button push instead of the finicky typing in Safari.
I love the push button access because it's so fast and easy. This app uses them to the best advantage so kudos to the developer.
As you can tell I am a big fan and long time member, so this is big, big news and not just change, but real improvement!
UPDATE:
As if it couldn't get even better! The last update made the app backwardly compatible to IOS 7.1.2. So now my unused old antique iPhone 4 (with no cell service) can be connected to the Bose AUX jack and left in place to play the stream over WIFI. (I bought an inexpensive cable on EBay.) Great way to use an out-of-date cell phone.
My radio now sounds crisp and clear - much better than it ever did over the air. Thanks WITF!
