## What is WITHSTAND?

WITHSTAND is an anonymous peer-support app for adults 18 and older who are facing compulsive urges or a habit they want to leave behind.

When an urge gets strong, the app looks for another member who is in the Watch at that moment. A five-minute "someone is here" session begins only if that person accepts.

Anonymous sessions have no free-text chat, no voice and no video. What passes between two people in a session is a short set of server-defined signals. A peer sees your anonymous name, your light, the fixed signals during the session, the shared action you chose, and your connection state — nothing else.

Community, the center tab, is an opt-in place to read and share short posts with peers walking the same road — under a display name you choose, text only, moderated, with report, mute and block on every post. There are no direct messages.

Free, and staying free:
- Ask an adult peer to be with you for five minutes when an urge is strong
- Be there for someone else when you have the capacity
- Open and rewrite your own Plan when an urge comes (it opens offline too)
- Keep a private journal and read it back
- See your walk: days held, urges survived, marks lit
- Keep a separate walk for each thing you want to be free from
- Open immediate-help information from inside the app
- Block and report a peer, during a session and after it
- Delete your account from inside the app
- Read, support and share in Community, and choose which of its notifications reach you

Plus (subscription) adds:
- A Personal Circle. Invite up to five people you trust; when you ask for support, your ask reaches them too, and you can see by name who came. People you invite can respond without buying Plus.
- The strength before and after an urge, drawn as a line over several weeks
- The hours your records cluster in
- The prepared hour: a quiet word shortly before the hour you set, reminding you of your own plan
- A single page on Sunday morning, looking back over the week
- Your own photo as the backdrop
- Longer Community posts and titled articles
- Comet. Relay during an urge, and the Recovery Program: an AI conversation that draws on your own records, walk and plan. It is not a human peer, a therapist or a crisis service

Supporter (subscription) is a way to keep WITHSTAND running. While it is active you can use a supporter's mark, an alternate app icon, and a choice of night sky.

WITHSTAND is not medical care, therapy, professional counseling, addiction treatment, or an emergency service. It does not promise relapse prevention or a treatment outcome, it does not monitor anyone for crisis, and it cannot call emergency services. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.

Asking for support, and being there for someone, will stay free. The app shows no advertising.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.3 — 2026-10-10

Updated App Store screenshots.

### 1.1.2 — 2026-10-07

New: App Shield (free). Choose apps that are connected to an unwanted habit, and a pause screen appears before they open, with a way back to WITHSTAND to rate the urge or ask for a peer. Your selection never leaves this iPhone. Turn it on in Settings > App Shield.

Comet has changed. Relay, while you wait for a person, and the Recovery Program are now a conversation that draws on your own records, walk and plan (Plus).

The Comet screen is tidier too. The title now sits in the header, so you see more of the conversation, and tapping the screen closes the keyboard. You can also speak instead of typing — your voice becomes text on this iPhone, the audio is never saved or sent, and you still decide when to send the message.

“Binge eating” has joined the list of things to be free from. If you choose “Another behavior”, you can give it a short name in your own words. That name appears only on your own screens and in your conversations with Comet; peers and the Community see only “Another behavior”.

What you say is kept for up to 30 days. The short summary Comet keeps can be reviewed and erased in Settings at any time, and nothing is written to your journal unless you say yes.

Progress now shows how far it is to your next milestone. Community Analytics adds a calendar of the days you wrote, and articles (Plus) can use headings, bold and lists.

It is not treatment. Asking for a human peer, and immediate-help information, stay free.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-09-07

Community is here: read, support and share short posts with peers walking the same road. Opt-in, under a display name you choose, text only, and quiet by design — every post can be reported, muted or blocked, and there are no direct messages. Choose which Community notifications reach you in its Settings.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-31

• When there is more than one thing you want to be free from, each one now keeps its own walk — a slip in one does not break the others
• Each walk’s start date can be set on its own, in Settings
• The prepared hour — a quiet word shortly before the hour you set, reminding you of your own plan (Plus)
• A home screen widget, and a Live Activity while you wait for a peer
• A reminder shortly before the gathering hour
• Invitations — hand someone a one-time code and Plus applies to both of you for a while
• A single page on Sunday morning, looking back over the week
• Your own photo can now be the backdrop (Plus)
• Urge records now carry the strength before and after, and you can see the hours your records cluster in (Plus)
• After you answer someone, you can see that it reached them
• The counts on Progress now say what they actually are

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-27

Your walk, your journal and your Plan are now open to everyone. Several things to be free from, not just one. And the app tells you how many peers are standing by right now.
