WMI Connect is the app for the Hughes & Kettner WMI-1, a bidirectional, wireless MIDI interface optimized for use with the fully programmable tube amp Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister 36 and the matching GrandMeister remote app for iPad. It works with any iPad with iOS 7 or later and offers so many more options to every GrandMeister user: imagine being able to watch and touch your tube tone from the front of the stage with an iPad on your microphone stand – and then being able to adjust reverb levels, gain or EQ settings without having to run to your amp five meters behind you. The WMI-1 can serve as an access point for stages and rehearsal rooms where Wi-Fi is not available, or as a client connected to a router in a network, such as a home network. It perfectly matches the needs of guitar players: no battery, latency-free, and the option to include a MIDI foot controller in the setup. The WMI-1 offers an additional MIDI input that merges the commands from the iPad and from a MIDI foot controller, and the GrandMeister’s MIDI port provides phantom power to the WMI-1. To use the WMI-1, all you need to do is select the WMI-1 as a Wi-Fi network in the Wi-Fi settings of your iPad, or connect it to your home network using the WPS function. I’m able to connect to the devices WiFi signal but the app is unable to find it, so it’s useless. I’ve already started the return process for the WMI-1. Such a shame. ### 5/5 — Now works on IOS 14 *2020-12-17* I was very disappointed to see that the WMI app did not work with IOS 14 a few months ago. I’ve held off on reviewing the app since I heard that HK was working on the issue. Now that the bug has been worked out, the app works great. I’m now able to fully control my Grandmeister 40 Deluxe via iPad. I’m also currently on iOS version 14.3 Hope this helps anyone looking to decide on getting the WMI-1. I have the WMI-1 unit set to AP Client which generates it own personal WiFi network. Update dringend nötig! ### 5/5 — iOS 14 crash *2020-11-06* iOS 14 killed all connections to WMI-1 module. Doesn’t work in WiFi mode or stand alone. This kills your connection to all GM control apps, rendering both obsolete. After long emails with H&K there doesn’t seem to be a solution. Basically denying there’s an issue on their end. Hmmm I’ve also been in contact with iOS team, and all solutions failed. You may want to rethink buying an amp, if this feature was part of your choice to buy from H&K. Very disappointed in Apple and Hughes & Kettner. I had invested in the whole setup, new iPad, WMI-1, GM40 and now regret the whole thing. It’s very frustrating since WiFi issues have been known for quite some time on the Apple side and H&K for not supporting their products better. I had worked on presets for months and now are useless with no fix in sight.
