Even better would be a way to stream recent music shows. The interface is easy to use, but it’s very frustrating to use, as it crashes constantly. Sometimes after it has crashed I can’t get it to restart, so I have to fully close and reboot it several times before it opens. This app would be great for when I’m walking or out of town. But it keeps cutting out on me so frequently that it’s super frustrating & after a while I just give up. I’ve tried rebooting the app & my phone to no avail. Wish I knew the fix! Maybe it’s just not sufficiently powered? Idk… ### 3/5 — Love WMRA radio but the app not so much *2022-01-18* This is a great station. The app’s features good but it is frequently unstable and crashes or drops its stream. We live in Charlottesville and the broadcast signal is weak even though we are right in town. Just a minor inconvenience. ### 4/5 — Improvement but sometimes glitches *2019-07-27, version 4.4.11* Is improvement over the last app. However, for some reason a number of times (10+ times) when I try to use to listen to WMRA between 22:00 -2300 I cannot get the app to work. I end up having to use the NPR App to listen to me local Harrisonburg station. I’ve also experienced multiple times where the story “cuts out” for 30 seconds or more, then “comes back in” and the story continues. I absolutely LOVE the sleep option! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Two taps to the stream *2026-06-30, version 7.4.6* I keep the WMRA app icon on my phone’s home screen, always at the same position, because I use it so often from morning until night. I like the thumbnail photos of recent stories I can hear again “on demand.” The Bluetooth link to my hearing aids lets me listen throughout the day even as I move from gardening to driving on an errand. It’s technology that brings the world of NPR closer. ### 5/5 — Love WMRA radio but the app not so much *2025-11-01, version 6.2.16* This is a great station. Best public radio station I’ve ever seen and I’ve listened to NPR for at least 45 years as a resident in Richmond , VA, Blacksburg, VA, Boston, MA, Washington, DC, Atlanta, GA, Athens, GA, and Charlotte , NC. The spp was a sore point but is much improved compared to a few years ago. My only gripe is that they have an A M Yoder remodeling ad that plays relentlessly and sometimes spontaneously.
