### 3/5 — Love this app, BUT

*2026-07-17, version 2.10*

It would be great if the dropdown menu didn’t require you to use the search bar to get the results. You can select Similar Words, Opposite Words, Sentences, etc., but it only refreshes after you search for the word again.

Other than that annoying extra step, the app is solid. It’s my favorite dictionary and thesaurus app because it has so many rare and archaic words.

### 5/5 — It’s helped me so much to write.

*2026-07-05, version 2.10*

I’m always searching for words when I’m writing transcripts and drafts. And this app is really easy for me to use and It gives me countless options when I’m lm searching for a synonym or a definition.

### 5/5 — Every writer should use this

*2026-07-04, version 2.10*

This app should be mandatory for every writer. It is such an amazing app! It includes but is not limited to, definitions, synonyms, acronyms, sentences, translations, rhymes, and so much more. I use this app on my phone and even on the website (although the website is slightly demanding in size) on my pc. This app is appropriate for ALL situations and workspaces, i even used this for schoolwork and work documents at some point. They even include slang in their synonyms and have definitions for them, which especially makes this app better than others. They offer different contexts of the words like how they can be used and the many different definitions for it (and even a wall of synonyms for each context as well!). I will never stop using this app.

### 5/5 — Fast, Easy, Incredibly Helpful!

*2026-05-16, version 2.10*

My son introduced me to the app when I decided to go back to college. It’s been 20 years since I’ve had to write papers, and this app has been so incredibly helpful. It has been very easy to use and keeps me from bland writing. I’m so thankful for the app!

### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2026-05-14, version 2.10*

I’m a writer. Mostly creative nonfiction. I also have a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury from nearly 32 years ago. I was silenced for many years, and while I could speak and relate facts and a brief history of events, I could not tell you my own thoughts.

Nearly 30 years passed. I had been using external frameworks to communicate in writing and verbally. In this case it was laws and regulations. I was studying to be a physician when I had the accident. I could no longer pursue that. Because I used policies, laws, whatever my mind could pick up and think through, then communicate through, I gravitated towards law enforcement and accounting/finance, I became a career government auditor. That’s just to give you an example. But through all of it, I couldn’t actually share my own thoughts, unless it was an opinion where I could use laws and policies to do it. I simply had no words for what I’d consider my own thinking, which has no external framework to rely upon. Those thoughts were completely silent.

For your own perspective, to help you understand what that would be like, you can watch the film The Tree of Life, I think that’s what it’s called. Almost no dialogue. It’s completely fluid. You go from one image to the next, and the next, over the course of the film. You still won’t understand perhaps what it is, not to have the anchors of words in those images, as they flit before you, then vanish.

This app, has made communication so much easier. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy, not like it was before the accident. It’s more like turning a badly rusted set of gears with an equally rusty, crusted-over hand crank. But the gears at least move. This app provides much needed lubrication for me to crank out my thoughts. It’s the only app of its kind that I use. There may be others. But this one is thorough, practical, exhaustive. It even provides slang words, current jargon and urban dictionary vocabulary, in some cases.

For instance, I looked up the most vulgar thing the other day, online, searching for an insulting synonym to describe a particular type of individual who’s a bit seedy, has a deeply flawed character, and not just an absence of morals, but someone who takes enjoyment from harming others and doing wrong. I won’t repeat what the word was, but it’s tired and overused. It doesn’t carry bite anymore. I was surprised, and yet, I wasn’t, when the internet pointed me directly to the online version of this app. The words the online version gave (which are also in the app), were urban dictionary-type synonyms. They really scratched that itch. They were satiating. The insult I was able to produce was equal to the task for this unsavory cretin, and satisfied my need for something more potent.

This app will surprise you. It’s a bit easier to use than the internet version, because there aren’t load screens during high cellular traffic times if you aren’t on WiFi. The app handles well, juggling the many noun, adjective, and verb variations of a single word, effortlessly. You merely have to select the shades of meaning closest to what you’re trying to say.

Excellent! Aside from a rare foray into the app, searching for a potent insult, I mostly use it because I know what I generally want to say, maybe even have what I call a “flat” word, which has ceased to mean anything much, due to overuse, but can’t think of just the right word. It’s been indispensable to me.

### 5/5 — Brain boost

*2026-05-09, version 2.10*

The older I get the more I need help finding the best words for descriptions. I use it several times a week especially if I’m trying to elevate my vocabulary or make a rhyme.

### 5/5 — Nicely Done

*2026-05-07, version 2.10*

At one point recently, they seemed to have rewritten the App…. As a long-time thesaurus devotee, I feel comfortable saying that their synonymic coverage is the best that I’ve been able to find.

### 1/5 — 😤😤😤

Do not like adds. It should be add free for kids.

### 1/5 — Privacy policy unclear

*2025-10-27, version 2.10*

I read your privacy policy and you provide no means for users to ask questions or express concerns about your except through twitter. I don’t subscribe to twitter or X so how can I get my questions answered? I live in California and residents are extended certain rights to opt out of the sharing of our personal information with any third parties. You may ask, why is this a big deal to me? Because my identity was stolen years ago and I spent years and thousands of dollars re-establishing my credit, going to court when collections agencies sued me, etc. It was a never-ending nightmare that lasted for almost 10 years. I never want to go through that again which is why any Apple app I download, the first thing I review is the privacy policy. Can you offer any option for me to get my questions answered or should I just delete your app off my devices?

### 1/5 — My review

*2024-05-12, version 2.10*

I am learning Greek, and your wordhippo website has helped me understand some words. So I decided to download the app, and you know what? It doesn't work with Greek, I couldn't even choose the language!

### 1/5 — Great Resource but Major Flaw in the App

*2024-04-07, version 2.10*

I hope the Word Hippo App developer reads this review:

I love using the Word Hippo website, but the app is riddled with ads. So, I purchased the premium subscription which removes the ads and has other benefits. However, this subscription only applies to the device on which the subscription was purchased on. For instance, I bought the premium version on my phone, but it doesn’t transfer to my iPad which is under the same AppleID. Thus, the iPad has the free version that is full of ads and I cannot access my favourited words. This is ridiculous! I will not buy another subscription for my iPad, seeing that it’s under the same account. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

The same thing happen with a friend of mine. They purchased the subscription but didn’t have access to it on their other devices. TheY got a refund from Apple and uninstalled the app after trying to reach out to the developer, who never responded. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

### 5/5 — Perfect, except….

*2026-07-14, version 2.10*

I use this app daily. I’d love it to have a different heading color for “VERB” so I can scroll down quickly to it, easily identifying it by color.
