Probably *2020-11-09, version 1.2* Okay. I freely admit I am a word snob, a grammar nazi, a devoted worshipper of letters, spaces, and marks on a page. I call it an eccentricity; others call it a personality disorder. Potato, patato. I gave this 5 stars on the first night, but then I got to know it better and the magic wore off. This game has no mercy. I mean, the word "mercy" is not a real word according to the game dictionary. There is also no "pith." And while it admits there is such a word as "professor," it will not allow you to "profess." Strange, huh? These are just a few examples. I get that folks might not want to hook up with every word they meet, but here the dictionary appears to be a random selection of random words. I really like the game concept and the potential for strategy, but it needs a more respectable vocabulary. The puzzles are fun for an occasional hookup, but this not the kind of game you take home to meet the parents. ### 4/5 — I enjoy the game but I’d enjoy it more if it stops resetting. *2020-08-18, version 1.2* I have reached the Champ/Expert Section but every time I close out of the app it resets. Thanks! ### 3/5 — Points are hard to come by *2020-03-26, version 1.1.1* Fun, addicting game, but points/coins are very hard to come by. I have played other word games in which this is the case, but if I do spend the coins for a hint, the hint should not disappear so quickly. If I use the 5-coin hint that shows every other letter in the answer, it disappears if I get the answer wrong. It should stay up until I get the answer right. Should be an easy fix without having to rewrite the code for the entire game. ### 3/5 — Update? Received response from developer offering to fix glitch. I will take them up on the offer *2020-01-10, version 1.1.1* All my hard work getting through the Master’s level was wiped out with the update. Wants me to restart at Rookie. Don’t think so. I have to start at puzzle one every time. Time to delete. ### 4/5 — Good but limited. Looking forward to more puzzles *2019-11-15, version 1.0.9* Good and clever game. I can’t say anything about the latest update because I just finished the game without it. I thought each puzzle was fair, though especially the non-themed puzzles were trickier than the themed puzzles since you could easily identify which words were right once you found them. My only complaint and I’d happily change the score to a five, is that it didn’t take too long to finish the levels, so I’m sad there’s not any more. That being said I’m glad that while I definitely got stumped multiple times, after putting it down and coming back I’d always eventually figure it out and I never thought the solutions were unfair. Nothing too obscure or unknown. ### 2/5 — Inaccurate *2019-11-14, version 1.0.9* I would give this game more stars, but it doesn’t include all possible words. I was playing a level and finding the bonus words, but there were at least two words I could make that the game wouldn’t accept. Y’all need to get a dictionary. It’s four letters. Should be a “star word,” and yes, as the word suggests, it’s very, very real. Playing the game is not so much a challenge as it is a guessing game as to what words the developers arbitrarily added. ### 3/5 — Nevermind got it to work *2019-11-09, version 1.0.7* Error ### 2/5 — Ads are abusive *2019-11-09, version 1.0.7* Wow a lot of ads and they all last 30 seconds. Fun game but the ads detract. ### 2/5 — Good game, but too much of Ads. Not worth the time to try. *2019-11-09, version 1.0.7* I downloaded the game to give it a try since it showed up on App of the day. 5 minutes in, the Advertisements start bombing up everywhere. You see ads while playing a level, you have to see an ad in between levels. It was frustrating to even give the game a try. Two stars for what I could play with. The concept is good. But lost in a pool of ads. I have seen other games where ads are placed strategically to let the user enjoy the game first for about 30 minutes a day, etc. **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. We have tried to keep the ads less than what we have seen in similar games. Full screen ads only show up after completing every 5 levels. The first 40 levels in the "Rookie" category are easy, and hence you go through them very fast. That is why you probably felt the ads are too many. As you move further in the games, they will be much less obtrusive. I hope you can appreciate that ads are the primary source of monetization for a game like this. ### 2/5 — Not So Sure... *2019-11-09, version 1.0.7* I love this game, BUT I am not earning any coins as I go along in the game... the only way I can figure out to get more stars for hints is to buy them. Another thing that I find confusing is that the stars I earn for finding extra words do absolutely nothing for me in the game—I don’t get coins or anything else as a result of finding these extra words and it doesn’t matter if I find all of the selected extra words or just find some. Otherwise, the game play is great, but it can be pretty difficult, as one could imagine, with letters that look so random, especially when they are long or there are two words, as with the scout level. Because I cannot get coins to use for hints without spending money, I end up having to cheat. which is undesirable, but necessary in order to move along in the game. Also, I see the update says I can send feedback from the settings on the game menu, but I cannot seem to find the settings in the game. Please help if I’m missing something or not noticing a solution to the issues I am having and I will update my review. Thank you! **Developer response:** Thanks for your detailed feedback. We are adding in more ways to earn coins. An update to the game has gone live today that lets you earn coins daily through a daily reward box. A daily puzzle is coming soon, that would again let you earn coins. The settings button is on the game main menu, above the levels button and looks like a gear icon. No thanks! ### 4/5 — Fun Game *2019-11-06, version 1.0.7* Similar to another reviewer I love the game but don’t like the fact that I can’t get help on bonus words that stump me. I don’t even mind that I don’t get credit for finding extra words that are not the bonus words that one gets credit for, I just don’t like that if I ask for a clue it only gives clues for the main puzzle. **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. All the missing star words have now been added in the latest update. Now there is also a hint option for the star words. Kindly update your game to the latest version! ### 3/5 — Really fun concept, but not well executed *2019-09-17, version 1.0.7* I really like the idea of this game. The problem, though, lies in the execution of this game. I would like to know the criteria for the bonus words in game, because it is frustrating when I have 5/8 words found, when there are more than 8 words able to be made out of the map. It’d be fine if they didn’t accept 3 letter bonus words, but on some levels they do, and on those levels there are 3 or 4 letter words that they don’t count. So it gets frustrating when there are words that you’re finding that aren’t in the bonus count and you can’t find the specific ones that they set out. Please note that 3 letter star words are only accepted in level 1 (Rookie) when the length of words is short. From level 2 (Scout) onwards only 4 or more letters are accepted for star words. You may have missed it, but this message is shown when you start the Scout level. On not all words being available for making star words, we have similar feedback from other users also. We are working on this and should have a fix for this soon. We are also adding the option for getting hints for star words. Thank you for playing our game and your support. ### 3/5 — Fun challenge *2019-09-17, version 1.0.7* I have enjoyed the game so far, and am currently on the scout levels. There are just 2 things that bother me about this game. 1. When you use hints, it only applies to Final Word answers (the one needed to pass the stage.” However, if I’ve already gotten those words and want hints on the star clues, there is no way to do so. What’s the point in getting hints on words I’ve already guessed?? 2. Also, about star words, they seem to be limited to whatever the devs have chosen. On countless levels, I have spelled out legitimate 4-5 letter words, but because it isn’t what the devs had in mind I don’t get any credit for them. This is quite annoying because there are multiple levels I am missing a single word to fully complete, despite having entered valid words but not getting any credit for it. All in all though, I find this game quite enjoyable. Nice little challenge to kill some time out of the day **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. The developer responded to my review very quickly and resolved the issue. Very happy with the response and game. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Spelling errors!! *2020-01-08, version 1.1.1* Seriously. It’s quite difficult to guess the correct word if they have it spelled incorrectly in the app. Ugh. ### 1/5 — Too many annoying ads *2019-11-09, version 1.0.7* And the game isn’t worth 10 to remove them. Deleted app ### 1/5 — Frustrating first experience *2019-11-09, version 1.0.7* In the age of Apple Arcade, I would imagine the App Store editors would be more critical of how developers use ads within their games. My first four minutes with this game subjected me to a cheap ad after four levels that I could skip after 30 seconds, followed by a second interactive adventure that was not optimized for my iPhone XS screen. Controls were not visible. Could not skip the ad after 30 seconds, effectively locking up the game for me. Force quit and instant delete. I know the use of these ads is largely out of the control of developers (ie which ads show), but devs should be more concerned. Services like Apple Arcade are only going to make consumers like me far more critical of bad ads and apps that use them. **Developer response:** Regret that you were served a cheap ad. If possible, I would request you to send the details for the ad through the feedback button on our site or in the app, so that we can send this to the ad network we use. Our settings specifically block all adult and sensitive categories. I play games myself and definitely find them frustrating. Just that this is our main source of monetization. In at least one of the ad networks we have been able to ada a skip button. This should improve your experience. Hope you reconsider playing the game! ### 1/5 — Judicial Watch is an advertiser *2019-11-09, version 1.0.7* This is a cute game but it delivers conservative advertising from Judicial Watch which says that climate science is “fraud science”. ### 1/5 — BORING..... *2019-09-26, version 1.0.7* This game is totally gone....It doesn’t play by its own rules. You can add only the words (as extras) that THEY choose. They just redlined the other words I found. Everything costs you the stars earned by extra words. The game is for children who would enjoy making idiotic lines to create words... sorry guys, but I definitely did not enjoy this game. Also, after every six levels (approx. two mins time) gameplay will be interrupted with another annoying full length advertisement. It’s ridiculous. Bottom line is, this game is not free to play, and not interesting enough to shell out money to play. Delete! ### 1/5 — fun but now won’t load *2019-09-10, version 1.0.5* enjoyed it, but after taking a break after getting to scout-2, game won’t load any levels, freezes on level load screen ### 2/5 — Kinda boring *2020-07-22, version 1.2* I love me some word games but I got to level 15 (granted in the rookie section, but I like to start easy when I'm trying out games), and not only did I get raked over the coals with ads that they fade in so at first you think it's part of the game, but also there was no challenge whatsoever. Nothing remotely causing me to need to think at all. Sad times. **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. The game does start easy but gets challenging further on. I think the ads (that appear after every 5 levels) might seem too many in the beginning as you move through the levels quickly, but wouldn't once you are past the senior level. The reason for only 4 stars, which I’ll change to 5 if the problem is corrected, is I completed the Master Level and it shows two more levels are live but they are not. I can’t go any further and there is no explanation anywhere as to why this may be. Again, a great game except for this one problem. ### 5/5 — Superb Word Game - Prepare to be Hooked! *2019-09-23, version 1.0.7* Word games abound the App Store a dime a dozen. What makes Word Hook-up different is the unique gameplay and “restrictions” or challenges. There are only predefined specific words that one must find and only words that fit the “hook-up” pattern. The background theme serves as a hint 😁! The game has been created with a lot of thought to aesthetics and design: it is cute and pleasing. The words should be ARMOIRE and DIAPERY but the arrangement of the letters prevents you from being able to get diapery. Is this a bug or do I have the wrong words?
