### 3/5 — It’s is good

*2025-02-13*

It is a good way to challenge your mind but it also gets quite difficult and frustrating so it is not all the time peaceful

### 3/5 — Would be fun but it’s glitchy

*2024-10-27*

This game would be fun if it weren’t so buggy.

### 3/5 — Does not function correctly

*2023-08-27*

I would like to click on the letters instead of swipe. It doesn’t select the letters correctly. It also doesn’t always allow you to select a letter.

### 3/5 — More levels

*2022-02-28*

Good fun but stopped at level 625 and no nee levels added for over a month now. When can we expect to see more?

### 4/5 — Want more puzzles

*2021-08-07*

I love playing this game, but I wish there would be more puzzles! It’s been saying more puzzles coming, but no sign of them yet.

### 3/5 — The old version was a challenge

*2021-05-17*

This new rendition of word ladder is far too easy. The old version was superior for those who like word games. It looks like they’re not supporting the old version anymore though.

### 2/5 — Ads! 👎🏻

*2020-12-27*

The game itself is great. The problem came in when I got somewhere between level 40 and 50. At that point, ads for ridiculous, very questionable game apps started popping up between every level. And you have to sit and let those play for a good 30 seconds each time. I realize Sporcle has to make money somehow, but why didn’t those ads come up from the very beginning? And I actually subscribe to their website so I can play their games and quizzes there ad-free. How about an option for those of us who do that to log in and have this app be ad-free, too?

**Developer response:** Thanks for trying out the game. We've reduced the frequency of the ads as you play more, and also given users the option to remove the ads if they don't like seeing them. Enjoy!

### 5/5 — SO CUTE

*2020-12-16, version 1.0.1*

This game is so cute, so relaxing, and so fun.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — So much worse than the original

*2024-04-05*

The new version is nothing like the original, and it has become worse in every way. Way too easy limiting your choices of letters, and the daily puzzles don’t even have clues so there’s no skill involved. Literally just guessing random words that are one letter different and hoping you get lucky. Really sad to see, the original sporcle word ladder was a ton of fun and it’s tragic they’re not releasing daily puzzles anymore.

**Developer response:** While we understand this version of Word Ladder isn't the same as the old one, you can continue to play Word Ladders for free every day with the Sporcle app.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work?

*2022-04-09*

I put the correct answer many times. It just wouldn’t take it. Had to reveal the hints to solve itself for each letter until it became the answer I tried many times.

### 1/5 — Not good for blind players

*2021-12-29*

Please make this game accessible with Voiceover, as was the case with the previous word ladder game. I downloaded the game and was able to work out the answer to the first clue, but tracing the answer doesn't work for a blind person. As was the case with the previous word ladder game, double tapping the various letters worked just fine. Just my thoughts.

### 1/5 — Is this a game?

*2021-10-23, version 1.2.5*

I like the graphics, but there’s not much to it. It just shows me a raccoon and says 1%. Must be some kind of zen “game.”

### 1/5 — Doesn’t load at all

*2021-10-23*

I downloaded the app but when I open it and click play there’s a progress bar that’s stuck at 1% and doesn’t move. I deleted and reinstalled the app and the same thing happened. Such a bummer.

### 1/5 — Un-Sporcleish

*2021-01-21*

If you’re here because of the Sporcle trivia app or website, turn back now. This thing has short incredibly simple rounds with longish annoying ads forced in between. I only hung on (went to level 50 to see if it got more challenging, nope) because of the Sporcle name but this thing is really trash. Deleting in 3,2,1

**Developer response:** Thanks for trying out the game as we continue to make improvements. We've reduced the frequency of the ads, and also given players the ability to remove the ads if they would like.

### 2/5 — Why no new games for two weeks?

*2024-04-14*

I have happily played this game every night for a couple of years. Why have there been no new games added since April 2? It is now April 12.

### 2/5 — No new daily games?

*2024-04-11*

I loved the old word ladder game. This is just okay. Or it was. Now when I click for daily game, it tells me to come back tomorrow for a new daily game. Every day. There are no daily games. I want the old game back. The puzzles where better and more challenging.

**Developer response:** While the old word ladder app has been discontinued, you can continue to play daily word ladders that way with the Sporcle app. You'll find the word ladders under the Daily Dose section on the home tab.

### 2/5 — Stay Tuned

*2022-08-02*

I’ve been getting that message for weeks. Stay tuned more puzzles on the way. Any idea on long I need to stay tuned? This happened earlier this year so I deleted the app and reloaded. Lost all my progress and had to start over. Now it has happened again. Kinda frustrating.

### 2/5 — Ads ruin an otherwise fun game

*2021-01-14*

I like Sporcle and was optimistic when I saw that they were behind this game. The game itself is a fun little word/trivia game. The UI for selecting letters doesn’t seem very well thought out, having to drag a line to connect letters means your thumb gets in the way and makes it hard to locate the letters (exacerbated by the letters changing position after every answer); but those are minor annoyances and don’t ruin the game.

But the ads. After 10 levels, I’m getting an ad after every single level. When it takes 30sec to complete a puzzle but you have to stare at a 45sec ad to get to the next level, it’s unacceptable. I would’ve paid .99¢ (maybe even $1.99) to remove ads but that doesn’t seem to be an option. Uninstalled and I don’t recommend it unless you really don’t value your time.

**Developer response:** Thanks for trying out the game! We've reduced the frequency of the ads, and also allow players to remove ads forever if they don't want to see them anymore.

### 5/5 — Ahhh...

*2021-02-24*

Nice breath of fresh air that isn’t completely mindless like some of the other Word games out there.

### 5/5 — Would recommend

*2021-01-21*

So fun to play and would definitely recommend to anyone. It’s a game that I play during free time and this game requires more thinking than other word puzzle apps.

*2021-01-04, version 1.0.3*

Very fun word game. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Nice App

*2020-12-19*

Very fun, quick and easy. I was able to get past it but I too had trouble with “mat” in the tutorial, something should be done.

### 5/5 — Excellent, addictive little game

*2020-12-17, version 1.0.1*

5 globes, as they say. Well done as usual, Sporcle.

### 5/5 — No typing needed! 👍

*2020-12-16*

The letter wheel makes it so easy to enter answers. Fun little brain teaser to play for a quick distraction.

### 5/5 — Funsies!

*2020-12-16, version 1.0.1*

This is super super funsies! Addicting!
