CLOVER was said like CLUVVER and a few times there has been no sound for the words but other than that really awesome ### 3/5 — Ok, but could improve *2012-07-22* My biggest concern is the accent of the reader is a bit hard to understand for US English. Could do with a timer function. ### 3/5 — There are some pronunciation errors *2011-07-03* As someone in the speech therapy field, the mispronunciations are hard to listen to...I've encountered several, i.e. Tree sounds more like twee; three is also incorrectly pronounced. I suppose I could turn down the volume but I think the auditory feedback is important for the children. Rerecord a different child saying the word correctly for five stars. ### 4/5 — Good app for kids learning to read *2011-04-10, version 4.1* Two of my kids love this app, one is 6 and is just learning to read at the kindergarten level. My 4 y.o. Really likes it too, and it is challenging for him. My other 6 y.o. Is already reading and she thinks it is boring. So, this is a great app for early readers. ### 5/5 — great for my 3 year old! *2010-09-23* This is a great program perfect for my 3 year old. Both my husband and I sit at home and work with her on her spelling, sounds, identification of letters, etc. She has gotten amazingly good at her spelling and is learning things that I'm sure she might be learning in kindergarten. She loves it because she thinks it is just a game, and we love it because it makes home schooling her easy & fun! The app has a great collection of words, and has several configurable settings including level, rewars sound, word length and many others. ' H_ll '....... is this....'Concerned Educator' ? ---------------- a e u i ----------------- I like the program. Is it the best, I would have to say yes, it's the best available in this format for this age group. Do I like the multi-cultural accents, not really, but, that's the world in which we live. I just 'TEACH' my son the pronunciation I prefer. Could it be better, yes! My beginning 2nd grader burns through these words in no time at all. I would like to see more advanced words and would pay money for the more advanced version. In many cases it sounded nothing like the word so that defeated the purpose. ### 1/5 — Not phonics based! *2010-05-31, version 0* This was clearly not designed by an educator. Initial sounds are not bad, but the medial and ending sounds have zero relationship to phonological awareness. No knowledge of vowel pairs is being taught. Very poor examples are the words moon, bear, and bird. the o, e and i do not make their short sounds in these words. They work as a pair. The i in bird is an r-controlled vowel. Before children learn to read print, they need to become aware of how the sounds in words work. This app will confuse and frustrate young children as they enter kindergarten. ### 1/5 — Word Magic *2009-01-08, version 0* Fantastic game for Key Stage 1 children. Clear and bright four and five letter CVC(consonant/vowel/consonant) and CVVC words. Colourful picture cues and instant praise or friendly prompt if incorrect letter is chosen. No social networks, scoreboards, layers of narrative, etc. It gets right to the business at hand and makes it fun for both child and adult (who probably won't be required for the tot to derive full benefit from the game). Starting from 4.0 we are planning on making several enhancements. As a first step, we had added support for phonetics in the preferences. We have retained the old layout as default. In the upcoming versions, we will default it to phonetics. Thanks to Maynee Desandies - our local teacher who had helped us in adding phonetics support for Word Magic. ### 5/5 — Fantastic app! *2011-01-24, version 3.9* Great learning app! There are other similar apps like this one, but they are not as good. Perfect learning tool for our preschooler!
