## What is Word Play Mobile?

Word Play is a brain-busting spelling game about making words, getting perks, and scoring big.

Imagine your favourite word game - but where you get to change the rules and the tiles as you play!

[HOW TO PLAY]

Click or drag to spell the best and biggest words you can find.

Score points based on the value of each letter, and the length of the word.

Score enough points to clear the round and you'll get a chance to pick from more than 150 perks!

[USING PERKS]

Modifiers change the rules of the game, in your favour. Add more tile spaces, build Bonus Points, make Q tiles become QU tiles, and more.

Upgrades let you improve, destroy, discard, or duplicate tiles. Or turn them into special tiles like Golden, Diamond, Emerald, and Potion.

Gifts add new tiles to your letter bag. Like wildcards, mirror tiles, and the legendary + tile.

Combine modifiers, upgrades, gifts, and special tiles in clever ways to score big!

[ROUNDS AND MODES]

Watch out for devious Special Rounds that require perfect play.

Can you reach the end of the game without running out of "Plays"? Or will you have to start again from scratch?

Learn the ropes with Easy mode, then try Normal, Hard, Legendary, and Marathon modes.

Play with fewer strategic elements in Quick Play - just spell words and try to win medals!

### 5/5 — Word play 5 stars

*2026-08-29, version 1.15*

Very good for helping youngsters spell and bring families together. Even adults struggle with this! It is an excellent app.

### 4/5 — Not bad

*2026-08-22*

Fun but needs more modes

### 5/5 — Simple and fun

*2026-08-06*

I wish every App Store game was as well-designed as this and as thoughtful.

### 5/5 — Snappy!

*2026-08-05*

Good replay value in demo mode, excellent with full purchase. Fun to choose new routes of modifiers. Satisfying, snappy spelling game!

### 5/5 — Solid game from a quality creator

*2026-07-29*

I really enjoy this game, and I’m happy to see it come to iOS. Never quite fit into my steam gaming, but taking it on the go on my phone has been awesome.
I bought it to support GMTK. I play it because it’s fun.

### 5/5 — Love the game and the other reviews are funny

*2026-07-29*

Me and my wife have a lot of fun playing this game! We play it as we hang out on the couch and each game is a little different with what strategies you use and other challenges we choose.
I think the bad reviews about this game are really funny there are a bunch that give it a one star because this game is too easy because they cheat by going to Google to find the longest word possible lol. And other people say they don’t like it cause you can’t grow the score like crazy like in Balatro even though you totally can. They just rage quit before they found them. Also I found other review that give it a bad rating because they don’t like word games at all. Anyways I think this is a great game and I love the idea and concepts.

Also I would love to see a menu where you can see all the different cards you’ve seen during your play through and keep hidden the ones you haven’t found. Like every time I play I think I’ve seen all the cards and a new one will show up every so often. I just think if I had a menu that showed how many cards I’ve seen or used and how many cards I have yet to find. Also it would be fun to see the full list to try to find new synergies.

### 2/5 — A fun idea, not as fun as it could be

*2026-07-27*

I bought this because of the similarities to Balatro, as I’m sure many have. While it’s a fun game, ultimately it doesn’t hit the same though. Basically the game feels like the first one or two antes of Balatro (when it feels like basically regular poker) and never gets to a place that’s like the later antes of Balatro with crazy scoring, jokers changing what scores and what doesn’t, and genuine strategies emerging.

This game just feels like you’re playing Scrabble and doesn’t take enough risks to build on that foundation and make something special. I want modifiers that change how things score, multipliers on the entire score that can stack and open up strategies of how to combine them together. The bag of letters you start with is so big that getting enchanted tiles feels almost useless cause you’ll never encounter them again after you first convert them.

There’s a lot of potential here but it just falls short.

### 5/5 — Good game! Improvements can make it better.

*2026-07-27*

Word library needs a bit of expanding, love the petition button, but it feels like it can halt an otherwise good play…

### 4/5 — Great game, battery killer

*2026-07-27*

Really good game. but On Osx it just kills the battery so quick. Hopefully can be updated to fix battery drain

### 5/5 — Positively addictive

*2026-07-24*

This game is really fun! When I start playing I really want to keep going. But because this is a brainy game I don’t feel as bad as I do when playing other game genres. I played one free round and immediately went for the full version, which is absolutely fairly priced for a game I enjoy that much. Perfect for commuting.
