### 3/5 — Weird app

*2020-03-01*

If children see it they can tipe anything in

**Developer response:** Hello, In the talking movable alphabet activity, children can experiment with word building freely and it helps them to understand how word building works (In the settings, you can disable some letters if you want). In the three spelling activities, children have to write a specific word. Please contact us at support@lescapadou.com if you need more help.

### 4/5 — Boring for younger kids

*2019-06-19*

It's a well thought out app but lacks playfulness and whimsy. My toddler (who is beginning to read and write) did two exercises and got bored after the dry "spell this, spell that" commands. Still it seems like a very promising app for older kids.

### 5/5 — In love this

*2018-09-29*

I’m 11 and I’m not the best at spelling but this app has helped me a lot a long with my teachers.it the best one to buy.😀

### 5/5 — Best app in its category for all ages and abilities

*2018-09-21*

My 7 year old daughter and my 10 year old autistic son absolutely love this app.

### 5/5 — LOVE IT

*2018-06-04*

My kid loves it, I love it. He can independently practice his spelling words, makes homeschooling day easier.

### 5/5 — A much needed program

*2018-03-17*

I have been looking desperately for a program to teach my special needs granddaughter how to read. The movable letters help with identification and sounding out the letters. It is so much easier now to demonstrate word and sentence construction. The child sees in real time how we communicate with letters that magically make words.

### 5/5 — Superb

*2018-01-25*

This company has two major apps that I absolutely love. Extremely well thought out. Are used them in my classes and for me it may be easy best way to help students understand the sound system and to truly spell. I cannot recommend this app highly enough for parents, teachers, anyone wants to learn the sound system and to really spell. I also command of the company on the beautiful accent. It is authentic.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2017-10-27*

I work with a non verbal autistic boy. This app is excellent and he loves it. Thank you so much.

### 5/5 — Just what I was looking for

*2016-09-20, version 4.1*

This app is great for helping my kindergartener learn how to spell and read words that she doesn't know. It gives her a bit of independence where she doesn't have to ask daddy for help every time she gets stuck. She can just type in the word and listen to its pronunciation.
This enables me to get other things done around the house.
Awesome!!!

### 5/5 — customizable spelling app

*2016-08-15, version 4.1*

We are just beginning to use this app for its intended purposes, as we have spent a good deal of time just playing with the movable alphabet screen. My entire family enjoys creating messages for each other for fun. My daughter, who is using this for spelling is delighted by the animations that tell her when she's correct, and I like the simplicity of the layout. It is colorful, but not too busy.

In addition to the many other assets of this app mentioned in other reviews, I must add that I have had a completely positive interaction with the developer. I had a few questions which he quickly and thoroughly answered.

### 5/5 — Excellent App!

*2016-07-16*

Recently purchased to add to my iPad Learning Centres for Language Arts Enrichment. It is a great app and popular with students too! Unique features make this a must buy for parents or teachers! Customer service was wonderful by company when I was originally looking for a new app to add to my collection.

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2016-07-02, version 4.1*

This is exactly what I was for to help my son.

### 5/5 — Helps adults with autism to communicate

*2016-06-08, version 4.1*

I have been a speech pathologist for over 30 years and am always looking for new ways to help non-vocal clients communicate.
One young man would only use his alphabet board with his father because he didn't find that others were patient enough.
He spelled out, "THEY DONT THINK I CAN TALK I CAN TALK I AM SMART"
With WordWizard he can take as much time as he needs, then press Talk!
My only suggestions to improve the app:
1. Move the Talk button so clients with fine-motor issues don't keep hitting Settings.
2. The Space key in Qwerty is great but also needed in ABCD layout.
3. Provide a way to try other layouts, e.g., for clients with better vertical than horizontal scanning
ABCDEFG
HIJKLMN
OPQRSTU
VWXYZ
Thanks for a great app,
Ross

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2015-11-09, version 4.1*

I am a Special Education teacher, working with K-1 students. Over the years, I have downloaded over 850 educational apps. Word Wizard is one of a handful I use every day. I love that we can now put in multiple users. Support is wonderful, very fast and responsive. I use the app in two ways. The spelling quiz is very easy to customize and terrific for independent practice at any level. I also use the movable alphabet for kids during reading time. If they can't remember a difficult word or a name, we just type it in and kids can touch it as often as they like. If kids come to a word they don't know, they type in a few letters, or the whole word, and are able to keep on reading without asking for adult help. An outstanding app that just gets better with every update!

### 4/5 — Very helpful

*2015-09-26*

I absolutely love this app for spelling test help wi my daughter, and I love that I can import my own lists. One down side is that the words are not always pronounced as they should be, but I'm there to help correct it. We love the start and hearts and playful interaction afterwards. We also love the crossword app. Great purchase and definitely worth it!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not good

*2021-09-17*

Hard to navigate- doesnt include pictures of most words (you have to add them yourself) and keeps freezing. Not worth the $7.99!!

**Developer response:** [Edit] Is your issue fixed ? If not, please contact us so we can help you [Original answer] Hi, please contact us at support@lescapadou and tell us how to reproduce your issue (in our test the app never freezes) - we will fix that issue as soon as we can reproduce it. Thanks in advance

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2019-10-20*

This app only allows a few words before it breaks, switching to the word “oops” and not allowing any further words. I’m quite annoyed that I paid for this.

**Developer response:** Hello, did you succeed in disabling the profanity remover to fix your issue? If so, we would be grateful that you update your rating (it's very important for us). Thanks!
Reminder: when profanity is written, we replace the word by "oops" but you should be able to continue word building - Contact us at support@lescapadou.com for more help. Note that you can disable this profanity remover in the settings: gear icon -> more settings -> profanity remover (at the bottom of all settings).

### 1/5 — Remboursement

*2018-09-23*

### 1/5 — Excellent app for simple communication

*2015-05-08*

This is a very useful app for teaching and learning words and simple phrases. My three year old grandaughter who is learning to read and write can chat with her uncle who is profoundly deaf, he can not speak or hear the app but can read and write to her and she can pick up on the voices.
She is also using to to talk! to her dolls and other toys, and more recently with her friends.

The keyboard and display can be varied as required ie qwerty, Alphabetic, upper or lower case and mixed.

Well worth the money in fact a bargain even at a higher price. What looked like an interesting gimmick has turned out to be a valuable tool for teaching. It is refreshing that it is not laden with exhortations to spend money on neccessary improvements.

As it stands it is probably the best app I have bought so far and the developers are to be congratulated and thanked.

Possible improvements would be the addition of numbers .
If the app vould be linked with itunes or similar to display with apple tv on larger screen it would be a great bonus for more than two people to use at same time

 Added comment 31st october 2012

The app has been upgraded now with numbers and a new male voice, and is even better than before.
The includion of simple arithmetic would be a bonus particularly since the numbers are clearly pronounced.

A possible improvement would be the includion af a child or juvenile voice, preferably uk standard english

Added comment may 2015

This app has been improved so that it no longer can be updated on my grandaughters ipad. Since the ipad is first generation it is not vompatible with ios 7 or later. This is very disappointing since a later ipad is too expensive.
While the original app still works she is upset that it is not the same as her friends version, and at five and a half years old summed up the the latest change as the work of a silly man. I mudt admit I have to agree with her.

**Developer response:** Thanks for review - I suppose that you did not want to rate it only 1-star ;-)

### 1/5 — Just terrible

*2014-03-05, version 3.6*

This app is junk, if only it could pronounce junk correctly. It is really more confusing to a student then a helper. I bought it to help for studying for spelling tests for my 2nd grader. It was not able to differentiate between blue and blew and when dragging the letters up to spell blue it pronounces the blends of letters and said blue at blu which is not the correct spelling for blue so my child didn't know if she was right or wrong since it said blue to her. Maybe good for very very easy words but not for most the English language, pass on this one, a total waste of money.

### 1/5 — My granddaughter, showed no interest in this game, she found it to be very boring.....

*2013-06-15*

My grand daughter found this app to be very boring, she quickly lost interest in it, and stated, Grandmama, this is not fun to do.

### 1/5 — Very complicated for a 40 year it engineer

*2012-10-14*

It is so complicated to use that it is not usable. Navigation is poor and most importantly as far as words and phonics which are key - does not have audio support.

### 2/5 — Design is good but some pronunciations are wrong

*2017-08-12, version 5.0*

I like the design of this app. However, there are some pronunciations are wrong when reading two letters together. It is not good for the kids who just start to read.

### 2/5 — Australian voice

*2012-11-14*

I'm having trouble with the word "am" in the Australian voice, even after I've added the pronunciation suggestion. It says 'A' - 'M'. Is there a fix? Has potential.

### 3/5 — iOS 14 please

*2020-10-29*

Update to iOS 14 please

**Developer response:** Hello - the app runs fine on iOS14 on our side, please let us know what is your issue at support@lescapadou.com and we will investigate immediately. Thanks

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Spelling App

*2025-10-11*

I love that you can create your own word lists. One improvement would be to enable use of lower and upper case letters in the same word so children can practice spelling their name.

**Developer response:** Hello, you can do that. When adding a word, just spell it with a capital letter at the beginning. Also, check in the settings that capitalization is not being forced to uppercase or lowercase. Contact us at support@lescapadou.com for any help.

### 5/5 — Word wizard

*2024-05-29*

Love the app. Great for spelling and phonics practice. I was searching for movable letter tiles but this one is the best so far since it not only moves the tiles but gives you the phonic sound. Highly recommend this app.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your positive review! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at support@lescapadou.com.

### 5/5 — Special needs child

*2021-08-03*

My daughter is verbal but cannot make her needs known for her day to day activities. Plus she is so quiet that you have to stand right in front of her mouth. She uses this app everyday stop let me know what she is thinking. I don’t know where I would be without this app. I’ve downloaded other like it but she always comes back to this one! Thank you to the creators❤️

**Developer response:** Thanks for the taking the time to write this review. We're really happy that our app helps the communication with your daughter.

### 5/5 — Great tool to support learning

*2020-11-19*

As a pediatric OT working in a school setting I use and recommend this app often. It allows for several levels of support so it grows with your child as they learn. I love that I can make my own word list. This feature has supported me in helping kids learn how to spell their own name all the way up to using it for weekly spelling practice.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review!

### 5/5 — Words of Gratitude

*2020-05-02*

I am so grateful for this App. I used it for my first son who has Autism . The app was a true confidence builder . The added features for speed , voice tone , colors , drag and pull were helpful collaboratively to engage him . I didn’t hesitate to use it for my 2nd son also with Autism . Now 13 and 10 , I still use it opposed to just saying words for them . I use another app that allows me to make our own list of words for spelling test etc however this App will always be held with the highest esteem for phonics and our strong foundation . I refer parents to it all the time .
Best Regards
Keesha , RN

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review - do you know that you can also add your own word lists in this app? If you need help, you can contact us at support@lescapadou.com

### 5/5 — 100s on spelling tests

*2019-11-19*

Every week, my son brings home a list of words for his Friday spelling tests. I make a list on this app, and he practices each night, starting with the easiest setting on Monday to the more challenging settings by Wednesday. He always gets perfect scores on his tests. He has autism, and doesn’t like to study with me, but if it’s on a computer, he loves it. THANK YOU for this app!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your positive review!

### 5/5 — Word Wizard

*2019-11-04*

This is truly a dream come true app. I teach students from grades 2-7th grades with learning difficulties spelling. This program has helped students learn to spell and boost their confidence and grades. Students use the iPad while wearing earbuds, so I can have a full class working with no with interruptions from others. Students with writing difficulties appreciate working on the iPad in place of trying to print or cursive words that are already difficult to spell let alone write out. So using the iPad allows them to find success. I export the lists from my iPad and import them onto my students iPads. When I ad the spelling lists, I also ad a test. Grades have really gone up after using this app. I think this is my 4th year of using it and Pierre is wonderful to communicate with. He’s very helpful.

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — My son loves this app

*2019-09-29*

Been looking for an app that is simple for my son to start learning words. This app is great! My son loves forming words. It is also very useful teaching him to read by creating our own set of words. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Exceptions

*2019-05-22, version 5.6*

I love this app and have been using it for years but recently I can’t get my exceptions to work for me. They pronounce the words I want them to when I set it up but when I get to the grid, it goes back to the original pronunciation.
5/22/2019 UPDATE
Developer reached out to me and fixed the problem! An awesome app with awesome customer service to go with it! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Words

*2018-10-09, version 5.3.1*
