### 5/5 — New favorite game

*2024-12-23, version 1.1*

I am obsessed with this game!!!! It’s like a word game combined with a strategy game and it’s the perfect level of challenging but doable. Also it doesn’t have annoying ads like other word games which makes the experience so much nicer

### 5/5 — Recommended!

*2024-12-23, version 1.1*

Plays a lot like a blend of Balatro and Scrabble. If that sounds appealing, then the game is definitely for you. The developer is actively engaged with the players and improving the game.

### 5/5 — Amazing mix of scrabble and balatro! Very addictive!

*2024-12-22*

I really like the design and the idea of mixing scrabble with balatro. The developer is planning to add more features in the future like more languages.

Until now, it is already super addictive and even for a non native English speaker a great way to improve English vocabulary.

**Developer response:** Ah sorry I missed this! Thanks for taking the time to write this. Great to hear it's been useful for practicing English too!

### 5/5 — 100% worth it

*2024-12-22, version 1.1*

I don’t normally write reviews but I was really impressed by this. Definitely has a lot of elements of Balatro, so if you’ve played that you’ll pick it up quickly. The word-based items (like giving you mult for nouns or certain letters) do a lot to make it feel unique though. Have only played it for a couple days but have already found several really fun builds.

I also shared it my mom who loves word games. It was definitely a steeper learning curve for her (mostly to get the hang of the scoring) but now she’s addicted too lol

Excited for more content!!!

### 5/5 — Addicted

*2024-12-22, version 1.1*

I’m loving this word game it’s so fun and challenging to play.

### 5/5 — surprisingly addicting

*2024-12-21, version 1.1*

Great alternative to NYT word games if you’re bored of those. Been playing this and reading Jade City by Fonda Lee to pass my time on the weekends.

### 5/5 — Feels fresh every time

*2024-12-21, version 1.0*

Played on desktop and so glad it’s finally on mobile! The knickknacks really give this game a lot more replayability than most word games.

### 5/5 — Strategic and fun!

*2024-12-21, version 1.0*

I love word games but get bored of ones that don’t involve enough strategy or challenges in them. This combines the simple fun of making words with the strategy of figuring out how to multiply your points. Fun art for the Knick knacks too. Well worth it, stands out from a lot of the other attempts at this idea!

### 5/5 — fun game :)

*2024-12-20, version 1.0*

the blank tiles are cool

### 5/5 — fun, fresh, perfect for the train

*2024-12-20, version 1.0*

i’m always on the hunt for a game to play on the train, this one scratches that itch and more. i love word games and wordlike is that and so much more. love the cute and creative power ups that keep the game feeling new!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 2/5 — Good idea but misses the mark

*2025-09-25, version 1.8*

I wanted to like this because I like word games and I like Balatro. Unfortunately they left out things that make Balatro more fun and added too much stuff that distract from the game. I don’t even need it to be so much like Balatro which would be fine, but this is like a not great attempt of making a scrabble plus Balatro game.

### 3/5 — Some stickers don’t work

*2026-07-08*

Although this game is overall enjoyable and well done, there is a bug where certain stickers don’t let you use them. For example, a sticker that lets you enhance a couple letters; you drag the letters to the board, but when you drag to use the sticker, you can’t use it, you can only sell it. This happened so many times with different stickers that I deleted the game. It used to work fine, so I know it’s not me.

Also, when using a blank/wild tile, I wish it would let you pick what letter you want it to be; it doesn’t always pick the best letter.

Hopefully these issues get fixed sometime, because it would be a great game otherwise. Certainly it’s a good premium game at a fair price with no tracking, so I applaud that.

**Developer response:** Hey WRS15743, I'm really sorry you ran into that! I've been trying to reproduce the sticker issue you're seeing, but haven't had any luck yet. Could you shoot me an email at harish@roadtrip.dev? It might be tied to a specific build you played or using blank tiles. I'd also genuinely love to hear any other feedback you have. If I can get this sorted, I hope you'll consider updating your review!

### 4/5 — Fun Word Rogue Like!

*2025-03-11, version 1.5*

Really fun and addictive gameplay! The Dev also seems really cool and passionate about their work, love to see it!

My only suggestion would be to add some stat tracking / profile system. I want to see my total wins, total words per category, trinkets bought, ect… Something for me to look back on and reflect on my play style and completion history would be AMAZING!

### 4/5 — Great game

*2025-02-16*

This game is great, and im so glad I gave it a chance. A few criticisms and problems I have however: game seems unoptimised and runs pretty slow, even for an old phone. While this phone is old, this game doesn’t have any 3d graphics and still runs slower than decades old 3d games. Another issue is a somewhat lack of build diversity from how overpowered some of the Knick knacks are.

**Developer response:** Sorry I missed this! Glad you enjoyed the game. I made performance and Knick Knack balance improvements since then; if it still feels slow or builds feel narrow, would love to hear more at harish@roadtrip.dev.

### 4/5 — Loving it so far

*2025-01-01, version 1.2*

Easy to learn but it’s early days yet. I feel there’s a lot to master here to beat the game. Would have given 5 stars if there was a way to view your stats

### 5/5 — Good game, responsive developer

*2026-07-25, version 1.10.0*

I appreciate the developer keeping the game updated and being responsive to feedback. I was experiencing a weird bug, and he looked into fixing it. It might have been a random glitch. This is a well-designed game, it’s definitely worth downloading. It’s strategic and a fun vibe too. And no data collection or IAP. Thank you, developer!

### 5/5 — Very challenging

*2025-07-31, version 1.8*

I love the game but I feel ( as a well practiced and proficient word game player ) that the difficulty level is set rather too high for true enjoyment . I’ve not yet managed to get through the novice level . It would put lots of players off. Rules are easy to pick up as the other reviewer stated . But the game is currently too challenging .

### 5/5 — Love it

*2025-06-24, version 1.8*

So excited to see this game on the App Store! Simple idea implemented really well with lots of mechanics to explore. Looking forward to getting really good at this one

### 5/5 — Excellent game!

*2025-02-14*

I’m so glad I found this game! It’s now one of my favorite word games ever. It captures the right balance of thinky and playful. Super engaging to play.

I just won my first game, barely, and it was a super satisfying feeling.

I appreciate the fair premium price with no IAP and no ads. I’m so glad it’s in portrait mode too. And, when you quit the app at any time for any reason, your progress is saved automatically. When you reopen the app, you just hit play and then you can continue your run. So it’s perfect for busy people like me who can only play in small spurts. It’s so fun you want to keep playing longer. Love it.

I like the visual design, I like the whole theme. If you change the game, developer, please don’t stray from what you’ve done so far, it’s fantastic as is. And please keep it premium, with no ads ever.

It could use a little bit of battery optimization, maybe, but it’s not bad, especially considering the animations. I wish the file size were a tad smaller, too, but again, it’s ok as is.

Anyway, thank you developer! I highly recommend this game! It’s really fun!

### 5/5 — My favorite mobile roguelike!

*2025-02-03, version 1.3*

Very intuitive and fun! Pretty similar to balatro in terms of the structure of runs, but does its own thing with the whole letter-tile system. 100% recommend it

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Super fun!!

*2025-01-07, version 1.2*

The game is extremely fun and in the discord server they do show plans of an endless mode!!! You should definitely play this game!!

### 5/5 — A fun and different kind of word game

*2024-12-27, version 1.1*

The strategies behind the scoring and bonuses make this game a super refreshing take on a traditional build-a-word game. Definitely one that gets better the more you play. 100% worth it; it’s a great addition to my word game to station.

### 5/5 — Excellent But

*2024-12-26, version 1.1*

Am I missing something or are there no saved stats? High Score, Best Word ect.?

### 5/5 — Exceptional game design

*2024-12-26, version 1.1*

Even in its early stages of design, this game plays and feels exceptional. Every element feels well balanced and the UI is perfect. It really has the same strengths as Balatro since it follows the game loop so closely, but brings a fantastic mechanic to make a unique identity. I think more modifiers and further customization would propel this game into the same conversation as its influences.

### 5/5 — Good mix

*2024-12-24*

Makes a lot of fun to play the game cause I already played a ton of Balatro and adding scrabble like things to it is so fun.
The contracts are also giving a nice twist to the game.
I hope you continue to develop the game and look out to adding new languages (e.g. German) so a lot more people can enjoy the game

**Developer response:** Sorry for the delay! Thanks for the review, and would love to bring the game to more languages over time.
