Wordroot is a dictionary that shows you where words come from.

Look up any English word and get clean definitions plus the full etymology chain — Middle English, Old English, Latin, Ancient Greek, Proto-Germanic, all the way back to Proto-Indo-European where the trail exists.

• Fast search with definitions grouped by part of speech
• Etymology chain showing each ancestor, its language, and how the word arrived (inherited, derived, or borrowed)
