## What is WordScene?

WordScene is a vocabulary learning app that turns the world around you into word cards. Snap an object, scan English text, import a photo, or say a word aloud to create cards you can save, review, quiz, and practice.

Key features:
- Snap words: full camera preview with object recognition, OCR, and photo import.
- Word cards: word, phonetic spelling, part of speech, meaning, example sentence, translation, category, and tags.
- Offline dictionary: built-in commercially usable dictionary data with common exam tags.
- Daily review: SM-2 spaced repetition schedules the right cards for today.
- Practice and quizzes: flip-card practice and local quiz types generated from your own word library.
- Pronunciation practice: speech recognition based scoring for speaking practice.
- Learning stats: streaks, mastered words, daily progress, and activity heatmaps.
- System integration: widgets, Live Activities, Siri Shortcuts, local reminders, and TTS.

WordScene's dictionaries, review, and on-device recognition work without a network connection. AI routing defaults to Automatic, but no data is sent in the background. Before every Snap or voice lookup request, the app explains what will be sent, who receives it, and why, then asks permission for that request. Automatic mode uses only Alibaba Cloud in mainland China and only Gemini elsewhere, with no cross-region fallback. Model credentials stay on the server and are not shipped in the app.

The free tier provides Snap, OCR, voice lookup, offline dictionaries, review, quizzes, stats, and sharing without an account, with ads only on static library, stats, and settings surfaces. Monthly or Annual WordScene Pro unlocks smart focus decks, personalized plans, advanced insights, and removes ads. Lifetime Remove Ads is a one-time purchase that removes ads only. All digital entitlements use Apple In-App Purchase; there is no external purchase unlock.
