### 4/5 — A fun game and idea but…

*2026-07-09, version 1.0.16*

This app has so many purchases, after playing with it for a while my primary quest is now to just literally buy the Yellowstone pack and I can’t even skip it. I love the bird feeder and supplies you can buy with seeds but I find that whenever I fill it up it takes like one third of what I have as seeds so maybe just lower the seed refill price a bit, also the duration time of some of the feeders/supplies are questionable for example the tube feeder’s time is 25 min and the ground feeder is like 2 hours! In my opinion the mud flat thingy and the native fish shouldn’t/ have more duration time. I also suggest that the purple bird sound alerts be a bit less distracting and when you press it it doesn’t automatically make you travel to the location of the sound before even allowing you to guess what bird song it was. Even though there are a few things for this game to improve I think it is a great idea and I root for this game to keep going on.

### 3/5 — Very fun… “game”?

*2026-06-02, version 1.0.16*

So far I spent 3.99 and 4.99 and this game keeps placing other things in your line of sight to spend even more money. I love birdwatching and this game certainly lets you do just that, but I have never seen an app like this where literally EVERYTHING has a dollar amount, wanting you to purchase, purchase some more, and keep on purchasing. When will it ever end?? This is the first time in a LOOOOOOOOONG time that I have spent real money on one of these games. I mostly never spend real money because developers are prone to “take their ball and go home,” meaning, that they no longer support their app and end up abandoning it. I have been burned by SOOOOO many developers abandoning their games or apps, or simply turning it into a subscription, even after you poured money into it by buying the app, and thus ruined the whole “pay for the app” concept for me. Only time will tell if this developer does the same thing. I’m sorry, but I’m spent. I can’t buy another binocular or a tripod with 35x zoom, or anything else. I’ve already spent enough, now stop with the “give me more” mentality and greed.

### 3/5 — Love it, but please fix problems with Central Park update!!!

*2026-04-10, version 1.0.16*

Very excited to finally have an east coast location, but please fix the issues!
- killdeer appear, but no options to ID them
- app refuses to give me credit for either the quest identifying several shorebirds or for northern parula by song, so it won’t go on to any new quests, either
- nothing to spend seed money on at ‘the pond’ and I’ve already placed every plant or tree I can at ‘the bramble’
- way too much time between birds at the pond, especially, and at either location it tends to just do the same bird types over and over and over again on any given visit, which makes it tough to get new ones, especially since there is no way to increase chances of any of them showing up (like with food at Yellowstone). I spend a lot of time seeing no birds whatsoever or end up identifying the same one I did before because nothing new is showing up.

### 4/5 — Killdeer problem with app?

*2026-03-19*

I’m really excited to finally have an east coast location to learn about after years of Yellowstone being the only one for the US! I’m finding that there aren’t many birds, though, for either Central Park or the pond and I often have to wait long periods between any, so it’s slow going, especially without any way to lure them in like there are at the other location. Yes, I realize this may be more realistic. However, since there are zero pigeons, I’m not sure how realistic it is. There seems to be an issue with the killdeer, too. Every time one shows up, the app will let me look, but not give me options to choose from to select the bird type and I end up having to close it and reboot. Bug, maybe?

### 3/5 — Glitches

*2026-02-19, version 1.0.16*

I was really enjoying the game but a couple weeks sho glitches started happening frequently. Example: seed “money” is all over the place. I had 59,700 then after identifying the very next bird without spending the seed on anything, the amount dropped to 59,600. Got it up to 60k but next time I opened the game it was back down to 59,600 again! Really frustrating. Also, the Central Park quests are broken. I’ve identified probably 10 shorebirds & 2 northern parulas but the quests won’t give any credit & are stuck. Could be a great game but these glitches make play really frustrating

### 4/5 — Fun, but a scam

*2026-02-04, version 1.0.16*

This game is great, great for birders and people that want to be birders. But it’s not worth. I know it looks fun.. it is fun but it is a scam, why? You have to pay 2.99$ just for nocturnal mode so you can see owls, and you have to pay money just to travel. And there’s more! If you are not the person that does not like to pay money for games, don’t get this game. Otherwise it’s fun and it’s great to have a game like this but it is a scam. 100% a scam.

### 3/5 — how

*2025-07-23, version 1.0.15*

How do you set a bird feeder up????

### 3/5 — Extremely fun game, but…

*2025-07-12, version 1.0.15*

This is probably the best birding simulator that I’ve played. But, I feel like the extra packs are just a couple dollars to expensive. I’m not saying it’s that big of a deal but it makes me a little annoyed. Another thing is that there should be something that you can do to unlock the Yellowstone lake besides buying the All-access Yellowstone pack. Also, I played the game for about 3 hours straight and put all the stuff that a Wilson’s Warbler would like but it still never showed up. I don’t think it’s a bug or anything but I thought it was unusual because someone I know saw the warbler at the very beginning of the game. I also think that you could make more money if you let players unlock things without playing but still have the extra stuff cost money. That would have more people play your game and more people paying for your things. I also noticed that when I looked at the Killdeer on my life list it didn’t have anything on the facts. It was just the sound. I know that I unlocked the facts but it didn’t show anything. My last thing that I have to say is that the Greater Yellowlegs didn’t have a picture.

Besides that, this is a 5-star game. I lowered two stars because of my complaints but if you changed some of the things that I talked about this game would definitely earn a 5 star. Thank you for reading this and please consider my requests.

### 4/5 — Muhammad Abdul shah Ahmed

*2025-07-07, version 1.0.15*

I love this game but I feel like since this is a kids game that you shouldn’t have to pay for nightmode or the other worlds, but so far this is a great game!

### 3/5 — Great idea, leaves lots to be desired.

*2025-05-25, version 1.0.15*

I am a lifelong birder, and there are not many bird games out there. I was very excited to see this game show up, again, as there aren’t many of these games available! The graphics are so-so, but that isn’t my issue.

It is absolutely playable, the issue arises when you have to spend REAL MONEY if you actually want to view birds far away. The game makes you use binoculars to view birds at distance, you get a virtual pair for free. If you want to ID birds in-game that are far away, it doesn’t even let you say what the bird is unless you spend REAL MONEY to buy their virtual binoculars. There is no other acceptable way to do this than to use in game points. I understand you have to make money off of a game, but there are other, less annoying and obtrusive ways to monetize a game.

Good game, it really is fun, but please for the love of God, stop making games unplayable without purchase.

### 3/5 — Fun but no sound?

*2025-04-12, version 1.0.15*

It’s a fun way to pass the time, though the in game purchases are very expensive and there are not many free areas to really hook you and make you want to pay for upgrades. Also my sound doesn’t work. There is no in game settings to control volume or sound, and I cannot hear birdsong when the purple “music” icon wiggles in a tree and tells me I should be able to. Not sure if anyone else has this issue but would love a fix.

### 3/5 — A few enhancements away from 5 stars

*2025-04-01, version 1.0.15*

I was surprised to see zero options to customize controls, namely to reverse up and down as they are backwards. Although in a way, this is a flight sim, most people will expect the same layout as an FPS. The UI/UX is a bit clunky overall.

I deducted one star for not pointing out that House Sparrows are invasive and the other for the controls.

I wish the developer all the best and will come back in a few months to see what’s new.

### 4/5 — I would give it a five just in my opinion

*2025-03-23, version 1.0.15*

I wish there was not so many things said you need to pay or unlock because the only reason why I got this app is for a identify birds and bird sounds That’s my opinion.

### 3/5 — The pricing for everything

*2025-01-17, version 1.0.15*

Is absurd… want a binocular? $4, another one? $4… opening new region? $8 that’s coming from someone who purchased the package offered in the beginning. There’s no enough content to justify these crazy pricing .

### 4/5 — Very Good But Needs QOL

*2024-12-27, version 1.0.15*

I love this game’s idea, and I’ve been playing it on and off for the last few months. Recently, I got an iPad, and I found the experience is much better on the bigger screen. The game needs some QOL to truly stand out as the casual virtual birding game of my dreams. I’m a budding game dev myself, so I see lots of room for improvement. I’ve made a few IAPs (All-Access Pack, 8x Binocs, Yellowstone Night) and plan to get the Norfolk DLC at some point, but have been holding back b/c of the following issues:

My most notable issue is that it’s missing a lot of UI elements that contextualize other UI elements/gameplay features. For example, there’s a bar underneath each bird in your life list. What is that bar? How do you make it go up? What happens when it’s filled?

Other questions: What is the point of leveling up? Do you unlock new birds or feeders that way? Do you NEED to fill feeders to attract certain birds? How do you tell if a bird is rare? Are purchased spotting scopes location-specific/permanent? In the life list, how can you tell if a bird is from a specific DLC (i.e. Yellowstone Night, Norfolk), etc.

The night DLC being exclusively toggleable is convenient, but feels strange in practice. I personally would prefer an integrated day-night cycle once the DLC is purchased, (perhaps a setting to swap between a day-night cycle or toggling) but I understand if there’s a limitation keeping this from being possible.

The current gameplay loop is pretty lackluster. You ID a bird, you get seeds, repeat. Sometimes you see a new one. There’s really no long-term rewards or goals that encourage you to continue outside of completing quests and trying to compete the life list entries. Fleshing out the leveling system (maybe new feeders/food or sanctuary decor gets unlocked as you level) could be a way to help this.

Another issue is the lack of proper audio settings. Being able to change the intensity of different sound channels is very helpful for people like me with auditory sensory issues. The seed collection noise is very jarring and I’d love a way to mute or reduce the volume of that. Basically, bird sounds, BG ambience sounds, and UI sounds should have toggles or sliders so they can be adjusted.

Finally, a way to adjust which types of notifications you see would be awesome! I would much prefer to only see the “a bird has appeared” type notifications. The bird facts are neat, but got annoying really quickly when I was expecting the game to notify me of a new lifer or rare species.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Stupid pay to play gamr

*2026-07-28, version 1.0.16*

You need a dlc to do anything in this game it’s so stupid

### 1/5 — Overpriced

*2025-09-05, version 1.0.15*

This game is an expensive game disguised as a free one. You cannot enjoy this game without spending real money. And there isn’t even an option to pay one price for the game that covers all future updates, leaving you to spend more on this than a high quality computer game.

### 1/5 — I really want to like this but there are problems and no support

*2024-06-04, version 1.0.12*

I have no sound, the volume on my iPad is at earsplitting level, and the vibrating purple indicators don’t make noise.

I want to buy upgrades, but why would I when I can’t even get the basic features of the app to work?

I understand the developer is setting a low bar and styling this as kind of a volunteer effort, but if you want followers, you ought to devise a way for people to get help when the app does not work.

### 1/5 — Neat idea, but you won’t make it out of the tutorial without them asking you for money.

*2023-07-02, version 1.0.09*

I really wanted to like this. It’s such a cool idea, and it’s an especially rad way to learn new birds. Unfortunately, you are given comically underpowered binoculars, and if you want to actually see the dang birds, you have to shell out several dollars (like, real life money) to buy better magnification binoculars.
Not to mention the awkward constant name dropping. Hey hey hey did you know you’re using SWAROVSKI binoculars? Go ahead and take out your SWAROVSKI binoculars and check out that bird! Great work, let’s look at the bird using your SWAROVSKI binoculars! Yes this game has the subtlety of a rhino.

### 1/5 — Abysmal game

*2023-03-02, version 1.0.04*

The entire game is paywalled in every aspect, you can’t play for more than a couple of minutes before you’re forced to choose between paying for better in game binoculars or deleting the app… guess which I chose

### 2/5 — $$ grab.

*2026-07-23, version 1.0.16*

Fun, but if you like it - get ready to spend and keep spending.

### 2/5 — Losing seeds when identifying correct birds

*2026-03-06, version 1.0.16*

Love the game but the seed glitch is frustrating. I will identify a correct bird and instead of adding seed to my current pile it actually subtracts it even though I’m identifying the correct bird. This has happened several times and it’s very frustrating. Please fix!

### 2/5 — Nice game but…

*2025-01-25, version 1.0.15*

My version is glitchy. The challenges stopped registering for the Central Park location.

### 2/5 — Fun game, but…

*2024-11-22, version 1.0.15*

Game is fun for a while, and has potential, but it gets expensive quickly if you want to progress, which is a turn off. Keeps sending me notifications that there is a Cassin’s Finch but it never shows up when I log in.

### 2/5 — Loved it until certain quest

*2024-09-15, version 1.0.12*

Hang a bird feeder Like dud how exactly am I supposed to though. Please fix

### 5/5 — Gorgeous game

*2026-07-05, version 1.0.16*

As an avid birder this game is so much fun! It’s very accurate and rewarding, with a nice currency system that doesn’t feel too difficult to gain in. I love this game so much, please continue to update! I’m excited for the Peru update :)

### 5/5 — I love it

*2026-06-25, version 1.0.16*

It’s good for kids like me who love outdoors

### 5/5 — Best bird watching app out there

*2026-06-13, version 1.0.16*

Love a good realistic bird watching game

### 5/5 — Amazing bird game!

*2026-04-20, version 1.0.16*

I wish I could become a bird in this game 🫠 are there cardinals in this bird app?

### 5/5 — Awesome Game but a few problems

*2026-01-02, version 1.0.16*

In the Norfolk Coast, the Pied Avocet picture on the life list is the exact same picture for the Long-billed Curlew on the Yellowstone life list. The Greater Yellowlegs on the Yellowstone life list doesn’t have a picture to it. Also you are two years behind current EBird taxonomy, not
a big problem but makes it less accurate. But other than those things the game
is great

### 5/5 — Useful

*2025-12-14, version 1.0.16*

This game is super fun and useful if you love birds or want to learn about the more. Think of it as digital flashcards that move and sing

### 5/5 — Great game

*2025-10-31, version 1.0.15*

Great game, lots of cool birds to identify and good graphics. It’s a shame you can’t complete Yellowstone without having to pay but I still have lots of fun

### 5/5 — Great game!

*2025-10-28, version 1.0.15*

This game is great for birders and nature lovers alike. Birding is not commonly seen in gaming, so this is a real treat. Gameplay is smooth and calm. Also a good antidote if you can’t go birding irl. I love the attention to detail that you can see certain birds when you come back to the game on different days. A great simulation on what birding is like.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2025-08-18, version 1.0.15*

I now know how to identify birds by sound thanks to this app. I knew how to identify birds by sight but this helped me with sound and I am so glad

### 5/5 — This game is great

*2025-05-10, version 1.0.15*

Love a good realistic bird watching game
