## What is World Sun Time?

World Sun Time shows you live how day and night move across the Earth — on a detailed world map and a rotating globe. Zoom right into your town and watch the twilight roll in.

THE MAP
• Day/night boundary (terminator) with twilight zones, updated every second
• OpenStreetMap base map with 400+ world cities, add your own places by coordinates
• Sun and moon position, grey line for ham radio operators
• Time travel: up to 3 years back and forth, time lapse up to 1 day per second

CRESCENT MOON VISIBILITY — ONE OF A KIND
• World map of crescent visibility based on the scientific Yallop criterion
• Perfect for determining the start and end of months in the Islamic calendar
• Hijri navigation: pick month and year, jump straight to the sighting evening

FOR EVERY CITY
• Sunrise/sunset with live countdown, golden hour, blue hour, all twilight phases
• Sun path diagram across the day
• Islamic prayer times (6 calculation methods: MWL, Umm al-Qura, UAE and more) with Qibla compass
• Moon phase, moonrise/moonset, next full and new moon
• Next solar and lunar eclipse, solstices and equinoxes

ALWAYS WITH YOU
• Home screen widgets (choose city and content)
• Live countdown on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island
• Golden hour reminders
• World map works offline (details load when connected)

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-08-20

The sun does not set at a time. It sets behind something.

YOUR HORIZON — new
- The real skyline of your place, with the sun's own path drawn across it. When the sun actually goes behind the ridge, how much earlier that is than the almanac says, and what it costs you in daylight.
- For 423 cities the skyline travels inside the app: no network, nothing to switch on, works in flight mode.
- For a place you add yourself it is worked out — you are asked once, and saying no costs you nothing else.

SUN AND SHADOW — new
- Your shadow on satellite imagery, to scale, in real metres. Set the height and watch how far it reaches.
- The pale fan is the ground the sun reaches at all today. Everything outside it is in shade from dawn to dusk.

YOUR SUN YEAR — new
- How many minutes of direct sun each day of the year actually brings — not the almanac's day length, but what the mountain leaves you.
- In a valley it names the two dates people wait for: when the sun leaves, and when it comes back.

THE BEST EVENING THIS WEEK — new
- Seven evenings compared rather than one predicted. High cloud catches the last light, low cloud hides it, a ridge in the west cuts it short.

SUN ALONG YOUR LINE — new
- The two days a year the setting sun lines up with your street, your terrace or your wall. Switch on the compass and point the device.

PRAYER REMINDERS — new
- Each of the five prayers on its own, with its own sound and an optional warning beforehand.
- Add your own audio file: your muezzin, your tradition, your recording.

ALSO
- Cloud cover in three layers across the day — high, middle and low, because those are three different skies
- New crescent: the next sighting from where you are, with the cloud at the best minute
- Share the day: a picture with your own skyline on it
- The city page is now grouped into four sections, and every card can be switched on or off
- Fixed: a fault in iCloud sync could delete places added on the other device. If you use an iPhone and an iPad, update both.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-10

The biggest update so far.

APPLE WATCH — new
• Watch app with three screens: Now, Places, Tonight
• Complications for your watch face: the whole day as a ring or a bar, with a running countdown to the next sunrise or sunset

COCKPIT — new
• One page with everything at a glance: sun position, day length, moon, planets, twilight, weather. Full size on iPad, paged on iPhone.

NIGHT SKY — new
• How dark your sky really is, what you can see from it, and the nearest dark sky at three levels — with distance, direction and directions
• A light pollution layer on the map, computed from the 2025 VIIRS satellite composite and calibrated against naked-eye measurements

THE YEAR — new
• Day length across the year as a curve, with the day-to-day change to the second
• Analemma: the sun's figure of eight over the year
• Tidal forcing for coastal places — the astronomical pull, not water levels

WIDGETS
• Lock screen: countdown to the next event, day length, moon phase
• A world clock widget showing several cities and their days side by side
• A Control Centre button that opens your home town

PRAYER TIMES
• A new day wheel: every sector as wide as the window really is where you are
• Duha and Qiyam are shown, and can be hidden
• The Isha window now ends at the middle of the night; the makruh times are marked

ALSO
• Weather on the city page: temperature, humidity, wind
• Time comparison with shared windows and working hours per city
• Reorder and rename your places; iCloud sync can be switched off
• Zooming in brings back towns and villages, not only capitals
• Moonrise and moonset computed with high precision (topocentric, with parallax)
• Tip Jar — entirely optional. The app stays free and ad-free.
• Many smaller improvements and fixes

### 1.1 — 2026-07-22

New in 1.1:

- The app now speaks German and Arabic (choose the app language in Settings)
- Aurora forecast: live northern-lights probability on the map and per city (NOAA)
- Qibla finder: large compass with colour feedback and a haptic tap when aligned with Makkah
- More realistic moon phases with earthshine and craters — in the widget too
- Widgets can now show prayer times or the moon phase (all sizes)
- Online city search: add any city worldwide
- Weather on the city page (tap to open Apple Weather)
- Reorder the cards on the city page
- Prayer calculation method picked automatically by region
- Map works offline (base map is stored on device)
- Countdown to sunrise/sunset and a "back to now" button on the map
- Many small improvements and fixes
