### 4/5 — Great software, great developers

*2025-09-27*

I've been using Wotja for four or so years at this point, across multiple platforms, and I've greatly enjoyed it. I've had nice interactions with the developers as well. I have a few issues with the software but I still greatly appreciate it. It is very "deep" software (lots of stuff to do and explore, some of which I haven't even delved into in my four years of using it), but is also very approachable even for people without musical knowledge. Please release it on Linux!

**Developer response:** Thanks very much for your nice review and we are glad to hear you have been enjoying Wotja. In respect of your question about Linux, we have no plans at this time to go that route, sorry :(! See this FAQ: https://wotja.com/help/#linux. Best wishes from Tim and Pete!

### 2/5 — Really starting to feel dated

*2025-06-30, version 25.2.0*

I’ve been using this app for years and have been a pro user all that time and I’ve always thought it’s great at what it does but it’s really got to the point where the world has moved on and this app hasn’t.

The UI is terrible and really gives old iPad app vibes and really, if the UI locks up whilst the app is doing something, or the sound stutters when saving there’s a problem somewhere.

It does get updates fairly regularly but they’re not particularly helpful/effective (changing the colour of a button isn’t really a “massive update”)

### 5/5 — Love it! But slight bug

*2024-09-19, version 24.3.6*

Love it! But slight bug. When I try to go to templates the app just closes.

### 5/5 — La nuova versione eccelente!

*2024-08-09, version 24.3.3*

### 5/5 — Endless depth of exploration

*2024-06-19, version 24.2.1*

Wotja has entertained me for years. Incredible depth of features.

### 5/5 — Takes Some Work But ….

*2024-04-29, version 24.1.1*

Probably the best Generative Music app ever created. Enough Said.

### 5/5 — Unique & Powerful

*2024-04-18, version 24.1.1*

If you're at all into synthesizers, sound design, electronic music production, creating your own sensory environment, experimenting with sound, chord progressions or new avenues to pursue creativity then Wotja is for you.

In over 20 years of producing music and sound I have never seen a tool like Wotja.

It's easy to get started and yet allows for an immense depth of control.

Highly recommended!

### 3/5 — Colors and Fonts

*2024-03-17, version 24.0.2*

Cool app but the colors are so similar and fonts so tiny it pretty difficult to use.

### 5/5 — Wow. Just wow

*2024-02-10*

I love that you pointed out that this is generative and not AI based. I didn't think much of this at first until I saw the midi out, and plugged that into Speldosa, the music box by Wintergaten. It's really nice that this works as an Audio Unit and provides a visual element that is sure to inspire along with the seemingly well generated intervals (it doesn't sound like a kid jamming on a keyboard).

Update: using this with the "Environments" preset and the RedShrike pad presets yields some interesting results as well... Thanks for the gift that keeps on giving

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your lovely review and comments, and for telling us what you discovered and how you are using Wotja. We really appreciate what you wrote! Best wishes from Tim and Pete.

### 5/5 — Wotja continues to improve year on year

*2024-01-24, version 24.0.2*

Wotja is a veritable "Swiss Army Knife" of generative, ambient, midi and audio tools. I have been updating Wotja ever since it was called Koan Pro over 30 years ago. You should enjoy Wotja if you like in Brian Eno's ambient works, midi composition or creating ambient/relaxation music.

I suffer with stress. Wotja has been a great comfort though these challenging times. A very big thank you to Tim and Pete of Intermorphic.

### 5/5 — A Masterpiece!

*2024-01-09*

Thats what I want for so many years. Simple, elegant and just amazing sounds.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind words, and we are so happy to hear you are enjoying Wotja! Best wishes from Tim and Pete.

### 4/5 — Can’t buy

*2024-01-01, version 24.0.0*

Can’t buy any in-app purchase from inside the app! The payment window simply doesn’t open… :(

### 4/5 — Très pratique

*2023-11-04, version 23.13.1*

Pour retrouver un plug in quand on utilise Logic Pro sur iPad, Apple ayant décidé de classer les plug-in par marque

### 4/5 — Crashes at the start

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Nice try Capitalist.

*2026-03-05, version 26.0.2*

Too bad you’re a Fakir.

### 1/5 — Subscription model via versioning

*2025-07-31, version 25.3.1*

This is basically a subscription model where the developer sells you a new version every year. Pretty much the same thing. Look at the pricing. It's shocking. This developer should be taken off the App Store.

### 1/5 — Paid for Pro unlock; now unable to use

*2024-06-25*

I’m not sure why the developer bothers to sell a permanent pro unlock.

I paid for “21 Pro” some years ago, figuring I could at least continue to use what I paid for indefinitely. It turns out that isn’t true at all. I’m no longer able to even install a build that respects my previous purchase, meaning I essentially paid for nothing.

I do understand the appeal of ongoing revenue, but if the “permanent” unlock is going to be time limited due to availability of a particular app version, what’s the point? What I paid for was apparently a subscription in all but name, except worse because you have no idea when the version you’re paying for will become unavailable.

**Developer response:** Hi, you can ALWAYS redownload a previously purchased paid-for version of Wotja. It is easy to do, and we have a FAQ on that here: https://wotja.com/help/#wotja-redownload. If you have any difficulties in doing so, we recommend reaching out on our contact form. NB: We hope you can update your review once you have successfully completed your reinstall - tx!

As you know, we no longer sell paid-for versions which only got updates during the year in question. In 2023 we moved Wotja to be a free app with In-App Purchases and that was to allow us to provide rolling free updates for it - whether or not a user wishes to Go Pro to unlock New Features in any major version (and there are 3 different ways to Go Pro according to user preference).

Wotja is a very deep App and the two of us we work very hard on it, both to maintain it and to evolve it. Ongoing revenues are *not* a luxury for us (even though they are small). Without what we get from those who Go Pro in any major version then we would simply not be able to continue working on it - period.

I hope our explanations help and we have lots of detail in our FAQs, for example see: https://wotja.com/help/#iap-cost.

Best wishes from Tim and Pete.

### 1/5 — Too complex as a Plugin Host

*2024-06-01*

I found this app to be way overkill as a plugin host to replace opening my DAW to using plugins. The interface is not very intuitive and I'm a software developer.

To add, unless you get the Pro version you can't use the free version without a timeout with a popup dialog prompting to buy the full PRO version.

If you're looking for something more than a Plugin Host, maybe you'll like it if you're willing to spend signficant time figuring out the UI. Otherwise, there are much simpler apps out there for free to host plugins.

**Developer response:** Hi. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Wotja is not a general purpose DAW and we never claim it to be. At its heart it is a music generator system - but is *also* an AUv3 Host. Yes, Wotja is free to use in Lite mode which has various timeouts. We have to put some limitations on free use because it is only those who Go Pro that support Wotja's continued development. We have a range of low cost options to Go Pro, including doing so for only 30 days. If you are looking for a totally free no restriction multi-featured general purpose AUv3 hosting DAW then you would need to search the Mac App Store or internet. You might well find that to get the features you want you will have to pay something to the developer to help them continue to fund development of their app (unless the developer is independently wealthy or has another way to fund development), even if that is just a tip. Best of luck!

### 1/5 — ???

*2023-11-20, version 23.14.0*

As soon as I opened this app, the Music/iTunes app began to go buggy, and I lost my Internet connection! This seems a lot like Malware.

### 1/5 — What, just a Wotja player on iPhone 12?

*2023-10-26, version 23.12.0*

There’s nothing but a Wotja player on iPhone 12. The manual and the tutorials are of no help as none of them have the same screen and there is no editing. $27 for what? There’s nothing to try.

### 1/5 — One time buy…

*2023-09-04*

€29.99 as a one-time in-app purchase for the pro version was just about right. the current €39.99 are unfortunately just greedy

**Developer response:** Hi there. We appreciate the feedback. Pricing is an emotive subject and we have always tried to keep prices as low as we can. We also review them from time to time, so keep an eye out for any Sale pricing we might run. What we do from now until the end of the year also depends on what we decide to do for 2024 (but we have not yet decided on that). Just FYI, we work very, very hard to maintain, evolve and support the Wotja app bundle/system for iOS/iPadOS/macOS/tvOS/watchOS and Safari. You may not be aware, but developing something as deep, complex, *niche* and powerful as Wotja takes a huge amount of time and effort so it is a miracle we manage to do it at all for how little we actually get in return. Best wishes from Tim and Pete.

### 1/5 — Very greedy developer

*2023-03-03, version 23.3.0*

A ploy to do subscription pricing. There are thousands of successful apps that do not charge every year for a new version of their software. In fact most of the successful apps on the App Store do not keep changing version every year to make money. Your software is not cheap and your rollout strategy is to keep charging a lot of money for a “new version” every year is just greedy. Right now you are stating a one off charge for version 23. Next year you will do the same for 24, 25 and so on. To me that is subscription pricing done in a very sneaky way. Your pricing is very high and I want people to know they are buying only one year’s worth of features. After that they will need to pay again for the next version. Your statement “features do not develop themselves” is not a justification to keep milking people every year, especially at the prices you are charging. For that price I’d expect a lifetime subscription for all updates.

### 1/5 — UI ? What UI ??!

*2023-01-26, version 23.1.0*

I’m a fan of generative apps (Eno) but this is baffling and unusable.
Downloaded, tried for 10 minutes then deleted.
Sorry, but not for me.

### 1/5 — my wotja pro 22 out of the store…

*2023-01-22*

… and i have to pay again??

bad move!

**Developer response:** Hi. Many thanks for getting Wotja 22 Pro last year - and of course you do not need to pay again! Wotja 22 Pro should continue to work just fine for many years to come. That said, Wotja is a complex system and so we have an annual model to fund development of new features/capabilities/improvements and to provide support. If you have no need for any of those e.g. in/for Wotja 23 or you have no interest in seeing Wotja continue to further evolve then there is no need to make another purchase (but we provide a range of options if you do). See our help page: https://wotja.com/help/ and "What is the Wotja Business Model?" and "Do I ever need to get the next major version of Wotja?". Best wishes from Intermorphic!

### 5/5 — Very nice ambient music for your work

*2026-02-01, version 26.0.2*

I just had to redo several hours of work. So I put Wotja on my Mac, and in a couple of clicks I generated a nice ambient music with birds, and water, and had something pleasant to listen to as I redid the work. Quickly pays for itself. I listen to a lot of YouTube, but sometimes it is good to take a break entirely from the distractions there, so again Wotja is what I turn to for a various kinds of pleasing sonic environments.I have experimented for years with the programming, and am looking forward to getting into that again with the new features of the 2026 release.

### 5/5 — Thank you Intermorphic, for Wotja 26 OTB

*2026-01-16, version 26.0.2*

I buy Wotja OTB every year. It helps me achieve a peaceful state of mind, and the updates always offer something new to discover. Once again, thanks to Tim & Pete for this magnificent software.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2025-12-21, version 25.3.1*

I’ve used Wotja on and off for YEARS now and I just love it. If you are into making evolving generative sounds check it out for sure.

### 5/5 — Great app, absurd pricing

*2025-10-04, version 25.3.1*

Absolutely absurd pricing.
Just bonkers
A great app, super useful- sounds amazing, but we're not all out here cashing Brian Eno royalty checks. I feel honeypotted.

### 5/5 — How I use Wotja

*2025-07-25, version 25.3.1*

For some time now, I’ve had in mind to create a series of concept albums with a very relaxing character and an ambient-space-fantasy-mystical theme. All instruments will be tuned to 432Hz.
For this reason, after various researches, I’ve decided that Wotja will be the main tool coordinating my arsenal of synths and sound libraries.
Initially, I had planned to use MIDI output from Wotja to drive the sounds of Diva, Omnisphere, Hive2, Pigments, Wavestate, Wavestation, Lunaris2, and all the other synths/sound libraries/effects I own.
However, after conducting several experiments, I was very (positively) impressed by the sound quality of Wotja’s internal synths. In fact, by processing Wotja's synths/drones through plugins like Crystallizer, Phase Mistress, Filter Freak, Echoboy, Black Hole, Valhalla Shimmer, Room, etc., the results — in my opinion — are truly beautiful and original.
I personally do not perceive any difference in sound quality between Wotja’s internal synths and the other synths I own, so I’ve decided to let Wotja play using its internal sounds, which I will combine or layer with sounds from my other plugins. The result is very original and pleasant soundscapes.
Of course, I was particularly struck by Wotja’s generative capabilities, which often deliver moments of rare beauty and entirely unexpected musical passages. At the moment, I’m still inexperienced with Wotja, but I’ll learn to use it better as I go along, especially since this project — which I hope to begin in earnest this week or next — will be a long-term work for the coming years.
For now, my workflow with Wotja will be as follows: I will generate 9-minute-long stereo WAV files (this will be the length of each track, and there’s a reason for this choice), and I’ll import them into Logic’s timeline. Then I’ll select the parts I find most interesting and let them ‘emerge’ from silence, before gradually fading them back into silence. I’ll then fill in some of the silent sections with my other synths, which I will play strictly in real time and without any quantization.
One more thing: I really love the text-to-music feature, but also the possibility of being inspired by the wonderful randomness of the generated text. In fact, I think the random text generation function is one of my biggest sources of inspiration. I don’t know why, but I feel very connected to it. I love being inspired by these seemingly nonsensical phrases that, to me, actually hold a very deep meaning.

### 5/5 — Straordinario

*2025-05-28, version 25.1.0*

Per ottenere soundscapes molto inrteressanti

### 5/5 — Essential and Beautiful

*2025-01-30*

I’ve been using Intermorphic’s apps for many years. I started with Muse and then used Noatikl. It’s hard to describe the joy these apps bring. I’m a software developer, and I’m picky about apps. This thing has been thought out in every possible detail to most perfect music making system ever made. It goes far beyond even Noatikl. It can become a part of you, a part of your extended mind and enable and empower your creativity. It’s has history, spirituality, gravitas. It’s a labor of love and it shows.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for such a lovely review, we really do appreciate it! We are not quite sure what you meant by Muse as we never did an app of that name, so we presume you meant either SSEYO Koan or Mixtikl - but no worries :). We hope you continue to enjoy how we continue to extend and evolve Wotja. Thanks once again, Tim and Pete.

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2025-01-14, version 25.0.0*

This app is a great resource for music investigation and education.

### 5/5 — I love Wotja

*2025-01-03*

The major complaint people have with Wotja is that it is too complicated. And to understand all of it is complicated. But I think of it as kind of like a video game - if I could figure it out in 2 minutes I would be bored. And with a video game, what do you end up with? Here, you can make music like no other app can. It’s fun to play with it and see what it can do. I have not completely figured it out so it’s kind of an endless experiment. The developers are always updating it, and are very responsive. If you have the time and are into ambient / generative music, I say go for it. You can also just use it at basic level and make great stuff. There really is nothing else like it.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your lovely review, and for taking the time to leave it. What you say is very interesting and is great to hear - we really do appreciate it. Best wishes from Tim and Pete.

### 5/5 — Noatkl 3

*2024-12-31*

I bought Noatkl 3, but then shortly afterwards it was discontinued, do I now how to re-buy it in the form of Wotja?

**Developer response:** Many thanks for purchasing Noatikl 3! It was retired around 7 years ago, but provided it still runs on your device then of course you can continue to use it. Yes, you are correct that Wotja is its future. The Wotja App was first released in 2014 and we have been working hard on it ever since - it is also free to use in capable Lite mode. Not only is Wotja the consolidation of all our other past Apps (and can load their content), it is also the evolution of all of them and includes a lot of new included content as well as many, many new features and capabilities. Whether you do or do not wish to use Wotja or anything that is new in it, or even to Go Pro in it, is of course entirely up to you! We suggest checking out this FAQ: https://wotja.com/help/#noatikl-mixtikl-v-wotja. Hoping we have answered your question! Best wishes from Tim and Pete.
