Even if my document is ok, when I swap back it ignores my keyboard entry. I can use the onscreen suggestions, but no response from typing. Leaving the app and coming back doesn’t help, but it does respond to touch. Keyboard works fine in the other apps I am switching to. Not sure how to contact developer for support. There is plenty to love about this app, but it needs more work. ### 4/5 — Simple and easy *2020-02-13* Nice app. Seems to be but with sorting as cannot sort Dropbox folder with latest modified files first ### 4/5 — Simple, but confusing navigation *2019-11-10* Back in the WriteRoom days, using this app was obvious, but lately under the Writemator banner, it's confusing. I never know how to get back to the icon-based file listing. I always end up back at the vertical file listing, with a separate older copy of files. Re-opening the app presents the icons again. Panic attacks when my latest work is hard to find. ### 2/5 — Sync and user experience issues *2019-03-31* 1. Dropbox sync no longer works reliably. The app sometimes syncs, sometimes not. It can require using the “Sync All Now” menu item, which I don’t recall ever needing to use with the original WriteRoom. It just worked. 2. The use of the native Files UI is a jarring user experience and redundant with respect to WriteRoom’s original, uncluttered file listing. I would rather turn it off or hide it entirely, but this doesn’t seem to be an option. **Developer response:** Dear User, All dropbox sync issues are fixed in the latest version. Well- tested (dropbox sync feature) in the latest version. Files app integration is also integrated in a best possible way. Please update to the latest version and let me know if you have any questions. ### 2/5 — Was great, now having issues saving/syncing *2019-03-23* So, the developer asked me to update the app (which I did) and then update my review. Here is the update: the app is still losing my work. I saw my file with content in it (the thumbnail showed text in it and the file size was 157kb) on my iCloud when I opened Writemator, but when I opened the file in Writemator, it was blank and when I backed out to check the file in the iCloud window again, I watched it zero-out the file size and the thumbnail went blank, too. I have most of this file in another app thankfully, and your results may vary, but I'm going to have to move on to another app, sadly. I miss when this app only supported Dropbox. It was simple but worked perfectly, in my experience, 100% of the time. I really loved this app. My previous review: I haven't used this app since about August of last year when I used it to finish the first draft of my last novel. I am ready to get writing again, so I open Writemator and find that it's all about access files through the Files UI. OK, fine, but I can't get my work to sync to my OneDrive from either my iPad or my iPhone. I had started an outline on my iPad and wanted to continue it on my iPhone a day later only to discover no file had saved from my iPad--and it still hasn't. I've even used the "Export to Cloud Storage" option in the pulldown but it didn't appear to do anything. I ended up having to copy the content I'd go on to write on my iPhone and paste it in Writemator on my iPad using Continuity (I think that's what it's called when you share the clipboard automatically with another Apple device with the same AppleID on it). I appreciate the ability to pull from more cloud services, but it doesn't seem to work! Going to have to stop using Writemator until there is an update that fixes this issue. ### 4/5 — Customizable, works with OneDrive via Files Integration *2019-01-03* Does the job! Fast scroll is a neat feature and link detection, little odd stuff you don’t see too much in other Note apps. One tiny nitpick: You can change the app icon, but all three options are dark icons. Could we get a white icon as well to match a lighter home screen layout? Thanks for your work on this! ### 2/5 — cannot be installed after most recent update *2018-12-21* tested on any ipad, the most recently updated writemator can’t be installed, which error is only with ipad one, the iphone one is ok ### 4/5 — Sort-of *2018-11-01, version 2.1* Nice so far, but Taskmator never worked (and 4.2 still doesn’t, but I’ve given up there) and now this product - even after paying for the extra `pro’ account after initially paying to get into the app - won’t even change its icon colour. Doesn’t inspire confidence in its more complex features. ### 4/5 — Very rare bug seems to fix itself *2018-06-29* It seems it had something to do with Dropbox syncing. After being accused by developer of intentionally leaving bad reviews, I took a closer look at the presumably broken app. I tapped around the screen and was able to create some new folders before the screen contents disappear, after multiple click somehow the screen stays and stopped disappearing and I also received my desktop notification from Dropbox that a lot of files have been changed( presumably it’s re-configuring my previous notes stored in the Dropbox folder). From that moment on, the app starts to work normally again. Also check out my video recording of the weird incident: bit.ly/2yUfQW **Developer response:** Can not produce this issue. Why the heck are there 2 verbs if they are going to be consciously substituted to cheat and trap more customers having chosen tactile screens partly for that exact reason : the choice to Write, Type, Draw, Mix the 2 ,With photos etc… WHEN will Apple be a,little more strict with the tampering of names ans designations misleading THEIR clientele ! ### 1/5 — Really? Can’t Use Enter/Return Key? *2022-05-18* I paid for this app to find that, oddly enough, you can’t hit return/enter to start a new line or paragraph. You have to hit shift+enter. I’ve been typing forever and using a ton of different apps and software over the years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen something like that. It slows down my typing speed TREMENDOUSLY and actually makes the app horrible to use. I wish I could get my money back! ### 1/5 — Useless *2022-04-03, version 3.46* Read the reviews first! as a longtime user of Writeroom on the Mac OS, I was pretty excited to start using this app. Paid $3, downloaded, and saw that it accessed my iCloud Drive seamlessly.. only to discover that the app crashes when trying to open a document. Please either refund my $2.99, or correct the issue. I’m using iOS 15.3.1. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work for editing dropbox files in single dir *2020-08-01* I wanted to use the app to edit .txt files in one single Dropbox directory, while keeping a local "cache" for offline use and eventually sync files. Simple use case. Even though I wanted to sync one single folder, it requested access to all my dropbox files, which makes me unease. I dont see any of the dropbox files, even after clicking to sync. The main UI of the app is the iOS files UI. It shows only "Recents" and "Browse". "Browse" doesn't show any dropbox files unless I go to the Files app and include Dropbox in the Files, which is exactly not what I want and the sole reason I got the app: to sync to Dropbox directly without using Files app. If I wanted to edit the files using Files native UI, there is a free "txt" app that does it. Other than that, some bugs: Files open and close immediately, files open an app freezes, app crashes when going back from dropbox setup or when opening some files. Sometimes files open with the text "UIDocumentDataToRead" instead of the contents of the file. So it seems that based on the contents of the files, the app can't handle them well. Unfortunately I can't use the app for what I intended so I am requesting a refund. ### 1/5 — Crashes immediacy on Sync Now *2020-02-09* Purchased the app to replace Writeroom. Linked to Dropbox, authorized. Hit “Sync Now” and the app crashes. Opened again, Settings > Dropbox > Sync Now. Crash. Seems unstable. **Developer response:** Please upgrade to the latest version. Issue is fixed in the latest 3.14 version of Writemator. ### 1/5 — Horrible, lost the text I was editing *2019-09-05* Only reason I was using the app was to edit longer texts that I could later paste as plain text in other apps. In the middle of changing through applications, this app simply lost my text. Certainly it was a problem the came up when it tried to sync with a server, but still unforgivable. Lost all the work that I was painfully editing on a phone. Not worth the risk. I’ll even ask for a refund, a first time for me. **Developer response:** All issues are fixed in the latest 3.25 version. Please try or update to the latest 3.25 version of Writemator. Si está para el idioma español lo mínimo es que tenga todas sus letras MUY MAL ### 1/5 — Erased half my Dropbox notes on syncing *2018-12-18, version 2.62* On first sync with Dropbox, it somehow magically removed all the text in around 70 of my notes. Thanks heavens for Dropbox keeping old versions of notes, or I would be beyond furious. This isn’t a fault of Dropbox - I’ve been syncing notes between multiple apps on multiple platforms for years without issue. Not happy that I paid for in-app purchase, and a couple of weeks later it was removed. I’m not even going to go into detail on the other things wrong with this. Just make sure you have a backup of all notes before using Writemator (if you really feel the need to do so) ### 1/5 — App won’t open *2018-08-28* I purchased this app a few days ago and the first couple times I used it it seemed to be a fine app, now however it won’t open and is very annoying. It was only a couple bucks but still it should at least work. Years for amit to update this... I am very excited to try the new xcode rewrite. The old inherited code was very buggy and jesse had to abandon it but no shame there it happens! This is super duper and ill try and remember to come back and update my impressions.. (I was an original write room user in like 2009..) so.. :). Une très belle appli d’écriture! ### 5/5 — Writing a Book *2018-11-19* This is my first experience writing a book with a stylus on a swipe keyboard, amd this is because I am increasingly unable to use a computer keyboard. This app has changed my writing proficiency tremendously. It is sophisticated yet simple. Easy to understand. Reliable. I tried other apps, and I experienced the loss of two chapters, over 25,000 words, and received no response from the developer. I'm aggression to mention the name. This app will make your writing experience so much more enjoyable for a small fee! ### 5/5 — Developer, please read *2018-10-22* Hi! I love this app. It's amazing and easy to use. However, I do think that you should be able to use italic font without having to change the font altogether. For example, if a character in a book has a written thought, it will be in italic. But the rest of the font will remain the same, except for that one part. In Writemator, you can't do that. Which makes it hard to express characters' thoughts. I'm trying to write a book, and this issue has become a major annoyance. Despite all that, I love this app. It was everything I needed, and so much more! I highly recommend it. I use it to type on the go on my iPhone or more serious stuff on iPad paired with a Bluetooth keyboard. The Dropbox syncing makes a fluid interaction between ipad/iphone/macbook. Things I would like to be better (this is based on WriteMator version 1.53) : • If I use a bluetooth keyboard and cmd+c then cmd+v, the pasting of text will make a psychedelic half-second of "what is going on". I would like an option to not have this psychedelic effect. • Again with copy pasting : when pasting I sometimes get an extra space character at left of the pasted text. This is a bit annoying. • Again with copy pasting : when pasting, if I move the cursor while the psychedelic effect, the cursor will teleport back to the position at the beginning of the effect... • When I open the app, sometimes I'm not in the same directory that I was last time. That might be a detail but this is a bit confusing. • If I use cmd+tab from WriteMator to another app to read something and then cmd+tab from that other app back to WriteMator to write it. Problem : WriteMator is not in write mode anymore, so I have to touch the screen everytime I switch between apps. • Also, I remember being outdoor without wifi reading a pdf and switch back and forth to WriteMator to write some stuff down and WriteMator kept poping up something like "dropbox is unreachable" and that was annoying. I don't know if this has been patched or not since then. • When I start the "sync everything", it starts syncing and goes on for a couple minutes (I guess it's normal since I have a ton of files and subfolders). Problem is eventually my iPad starts sleeping. When I wake up my iPad the syncing is blocked, sort of paralysed. So I have to cancel it and start it again. But when I start it again it doesn't start anymore. Weird. Maybe just preventing the iPad from sleeping when syncing everything would fix this issue. Also, sorry for this long app review that seems more negative than positive. In fact, WriteMator is one of my main apps on iOS. That's why I have high standards. That being said, yes I recommend this app and hope that people buy it to support future developments. Thanks ! **Developer response:** Please update to the latest 1.3 version of Writemator.
