### 4/5 — Great with room for improvement

*2025-08-20, version 2.9.4*

Easy to navigate. Wish I could edit my trip reports in the app and filter my hikes.

### 3/5 — Very slow app

*2025-06-14, version 2.9.4*

Servers are junk.

### 3/5 — Very Hard to Read!

*2024-04-30, version 2.7.1*

WTA is an excellent organization, and the information that they have available to us is second to none. My problem with this app is the use of a very light gray font on an equally pale background, which makes it extremely difficult to read for anybody who’s in the slightest amount of sun. Also, none of the text can be resized or zoomed in on, so anybody who would otherwise need reading glasses or who are in harsh light conditions would be out of luck.
Thankfully, all of the same information is available on the web in a readable font on webpages that you can zoom in and out of for better look at certain pieces of text. BUT, once I downloaded the app, my phone would no longer allow me to look at the webpage itself, automatically redirecting me to the app, where nothing is legible. So unfortunately, I had to delete the app in order to be able to look up trail information. Which I don’t think is the point.

### 3/5 — Missing Trail Maps

*2023-07-18, version 2.7.0*

I love this app and the last upgrade is mostly all positive except that now most of the trails I select do not have an actual trail map. When you go to the map under location and click on it, most times it just shows the trailhead where before it shows the map of the trail.

For example, when you open Gold Creek Pond map it shows only a mark for the trail head. However, Golden Gate Loop actually brings up the trail map. I have screenshots of both.

I would love this error to be fixed because I rely heavily on this app and it tends to be more accurate that AllTrails. A great app other than this issue!

### 2/5 — Terrible update

*2023-05-20*

First off this app has not worked correctly in a long time. It doesn’t work offline, won’t let me submit trip reports and logs me off constantly.
So I get an email about the new and improved app. Nope. My whole back pack is missing the thumbnails so I don’t even know what hike it is unless I click on it. Logged me out too. As far as working offline only time will tell.
Disappointing as in general WTA is a great organization but this app is crap.
I emailed about these issues so long ago but was ignored.

### 5/5 — Amazing update

*2023-05-16, version 2.7.0*

This new major release is not only gorgeous but packs in a lot of great new features! This is the definitive hiking app for Washington State!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2023-05-10, version 2.6.1*

Great way to access reliable, up to date trail information, driving directions and more. Even allows you to write a trip report and post photos of your hike for others to enjoy.

### 4/5 — Would love some customization!

*2023-03-28, version 2.6.1*

This is an amazing app and I am so grateful for the community it has given me and all the amazing hikes I have found through it. I so wish I could customize “my backpack” a little more - would be helpful to make separate folders to organize by regions of the state or seasons of the year. Even seeing when I originally faced something to my backpack would be SO helpful. Not sure how often these reviews/update suggestions are taken…but would love something like this feature in the app!

### 5/5 — I miss WTA so much

*2023-03-10, version 2.6.1*

I moved away after a lifetime in Washington and really miss WTA and this app. The other state-agnostic resources are way less helpful. Local government info isn’t always helpful. WTA is one of a kind. Go hike and see rainier or something because I can’t anymore.

### 4/5 — Login problems

*2022-07-20, version 2.4.4*

Great content as the WTA is second to none.
The app generally works well.

A gripe I have about it is that it forces me to enter my password every time I open the app. Why is it not able to remember? I’m on the same device. Other apps are able to handle this and I do not believe my WTA backpack is a high security area. It would be fine with me if I could use the app without logging in.

Tempted to dock two stars for this, but I love the WTA so just docking one. Rant over.

### 2/5 — Trip reports sync issue

*2022-07-13, version 2.4.4*

This has been an issue for over a year now. Why don’t trip reports submitted via app sync and post? We are probably missing a ton of trip reports due to this glitch. Please fix this issue!

### 3/5 — Missing SOOOO many trails!

*2022-04-07, version 2.4.0*

I have been trying to use this app for a few years, and it does work to track, if that’s all you really need. It is severely lacking when it comes to showing trails in WA. I use another app that is Worldwide and it has far more Washington State trails in it than this app does. Thankfully, there are other apps with more information than this one or I would have missed out on many gorgeous WA hikes over the years. It’s time to delete this app.

### 5/5 — Issue with creating an account

*2022-03-14, version 2.4.0*

The font color blends in with the white background, so it’s hard to see what information you need to put in

### 4/5 — Love this app but wish they included maps

*2021-07-10, version 2.4.0*

WTA is super informative and helpful as an organization, and this is my preferred go-to app for finding hikes. Informative, clean, aesthetically pleasing, and easy to navigate. No ads. The trip reports provide helpful information about trail conditions, road conditions, closures, snow, washouts, etc. I regularly find safety information on WTA that was not even mentioned on Alltrails.

My one and only wish for the app is that they consider integrating topo maps. There are maps on the website (though these don’t highlight the route), but not on the app. If there is a way to incorporate these maps into the app, it would make trip planning so much easier! Just a thought. Thank you for all that you do!

### 5/5 — Map was glitchy

*2021-04-26, version 2.4.0*

Fixed in the newest update. Always better than AllTrails

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Please fix lagging/freezing issues

*2026-01-20, version 2.9.4*

I have relied on this app for many years. The past year or so I’ve barely been able to use it. Whenever I search, it freezes after a few characters and frequently crashes. I have tried reinstalling the app several times with no improvement. My iOS is fully upgraded and I don’t have this issue with ANY other app.

### 1/5 — FIX THE TEXT SIZE!!!!!!

*2025-04-25, version 2.9.0*

The tiny text size makes this app a miserable experience. And it doesn’t support dynamic type, so you can’t even change it in your iPhone system settings. There are loads of complaints in the reviews for this and you refuse to do anything about it. I think I’m just going to delete the app, and stop supporting the WTA

### 1/5 — Very very slow app

*2023-11-09, version 2.7.0*

Must run on very small servers.

Text is way too small. Ignores system font settings on reports.

### 1/5 — Totally Unusable - Crashes Every Single Time

*2021-06-23, version 2.4.0*

App has crashed pretty much immediately every time I go to use it since last August. Updated. Got a new phone. Still not working.

Bummer because it’s my fave for trails. Have to look at it on the desktop instead.

### 1/5 — Map doesn’t work

*2021-03-04, version 2.3.1*

I loved this app when the map would load so you can see the location of each trail. Now the map doesn’t load all the way. Fix please!

### 1/5 — Really wished this worked cause WTA is great organization

*2020-09-25, version 2.3.1*

I hate to give a WTA app such a poor rating because the organization is good. But the app is almost unusable. It takes FOREVER to load on a good day. On a bad day you have to repeatedly log in. You can’t submit trail reports on the app. You have to do it on the computer. Saving to your backpack for offline access almost never works because when you don’t have phone service it takes EVEN longer to load. I don’t want to stand at a trailhead for 5 minutes waiting for an app to load when I’m going to use my Garmin GPS tracker anyway. Their website works fine. Would be great if they would do some updates to the app

### 1/5 — Map no longer loads

*2020-09-14, version 2.3.1*

This app was great until the map stopped loading, unfortunately that makes it about useless! Please update!

### 1/5 — No Offline Access

*2019-09-01, version 2.3.0*

Supposed to be able to access trails and 5 most recent reports offline if they are in your “backpack.” When to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness and tried to use it and nothing was available.

### 1/5 — Frustrating!!!

*2018-10-08, version 2.0.6*

This was the third and final time that I will try to write a review with photos.

This app is all or nothing with photo permissions - you either deny it (default) or give it full time read and write permissions (bad). Developer did not bother implementing permission requests, so if you’re done writing a lengthy review and try to upload a photo, it’ll tell you to go to Privacy to allow it. When you do that now, it kills the app and reloads it, blowing away your draft review.

Stupid

### 2/5 — Wish I could rate higher

*2025-07-14, version 2.9.4*

I used to love this app. Now it just crashes before I can search for anything. I'm lucky I can even get logged in! Once I open the search function, the app closes itself. I can't do anything with it. (iPhone/iOS 18.5)

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Must have for any WA hiker

*2025-08-08, version 2.9.4*

Really the absolutely best and free app for all wa hikes

### 5/5 — The best trip reports

*2025-07-27, version 2.9.4*

Love this app for checking trip reports and specific hikes

### 5/5 — by far one of the best apps out there for hiking/trail finding

*2024-10-10, version 2.9.0*

just absolutely top tier of an app bringing the Washington / PNW community of hikers together with great information to look out for and use as a guide and prep tool before exploring the beauty of it!

### 5/5 — Every citizen of, and visitor to, WA should use this app.

*2024-08-14, version 2.9.0*

Lived near Seattle my whole life. Used to only get out when friends “heard about a good hike”. Now, because of the WTA app, I get out every weekend.

Similar to how it’s difficult to know what to cook for dinner, because you don’t have any recipes. It’s difficult to know where to go outdoors if you don’t know the trails.

WTA is your recipe for outdoor livin’!

Get busy!

### 5/5 — Access to a growing hiking guide

*2024-07-10, version 2.9.0*

WTA’s hiking guide (and related map) is a must for anyone who hikes in Washington State. All the key information is there at your fingertips! New hikes are being added all the time. The user trip reports are useful to learn about recent trail conditions.

### 5/5 — Godsend for hiking

*2023-07-01, version 2.7.0*

A must for anybody wanting to hike in WA. Most reliable, and best digital experience for scoping out trails. Would reccomended to anyone.

### 5/5 — Great site and excellent resource!

*2023-06-21, version 2.7.0*

I hike around I90 and Highway 2 corridors a couple times a week and LOVE this resource for reviews, directions, and maps. The community is outstanding and super helpful to one another. WTA does wonderful work all over the state!

### 5/5 — My go to hiking app!

*2023-05-23, version 2.7.0*

Love this app and love the organization as a whole. The best and most reliable trail reports as well. The new update rocks btw!

### 5/5 — Go-to source for all WA hikes

*2023-05-21, version 2.7.0*

WTA is my first step, go-to source to research all hikes in WA. The app has most of the features of the web site. Easy to search, comprehensive list of hikes with great hike descriptions, recent trip reports, often with photos, great trail head directions, and road conditions make this an invaluable tool. I pair it with Gaia (another great app) for downloaded and/or printed maps and GPS functionality.

### 5/5 — Love New features

*2023-05-20, version 2.7.0*

Love all the new features. Trailhead map super useful! Thank you WTA😎
