### 4/5 — iPhone 16e unable to connect to WSMR

*2026-01-15, version 6.3.15*

Link to listen to WSMR classical is not visible on my iPhone16e device, so can’t connect using that device. All other Apple devices connect fine.

### 3/5 — Wish it were better...and why the kangaroo?

*2021-06-01, version 4.0.4*

I use this app because WSMR isn’t strong enough to get to my radio in St. Pete 😞 Some days it works, other days it gets stuck forever in “buffering” (even when I take it out of memory). The app support link doesn’t work, so I am posting this even though I’d rather contact support. And why does the new update have a kangaroo for the icon instead of the WUSF one?

### 4/5 — Great station - Great app

*2018-04-06, version 3.8.24*

As a new resident of Sarasota I am greatly enjoying WUSF, and being able to listen on my smartphone is just icing on the cake!

### 3/5 — A change but not an upgrade from earlier

*2017-10-20, version 3.8.24*

OK but seems longer to load than earlier versions.

### 5/5 — Love WUSF

*2017-08-26, version 3.8.6*

Great programs. Informative, current, humorous, professional, unique, unbiased. It's where I get my news and entertainment. News is not left, not right, and definitely not fake. Pretty much in the middle. And you get the a story, not a sound byte. Keep up the great work.

### 5/5 — Ben

*2017-08-24, version 3.8.6*

Finally, it works properly. I love this app

### 4/5 — Great app except for ads

*2017-05-31, version 3.8.6*

Stop running ads. Thanks

### 4/5 — Works For Me

*2017-05-25, version 3.8.6*

Downloaded the app some days ago and it has performed very well. No downside. Keep up the good work on your classical programming and the app

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2017-04-16, version 3.8.6*

The app is simple to navigate. It provides the regular 89.7 stream plus WSMR, so you can hear music and talk in clear sound at any time.

### 4/5 — Improved

*2017-04-13, version 3.8.6*

I was furious when this app came out, because it forced me to listen to an ad before I could listen to the radio. Fortunately, I hadn't deleted the old app yet so I reverted to that. I also wrote to WUSF and canceled my sustainer's gift, because frankly I do not believe public radio should impose advertising on its listeners. When a friend told me that the the feature taking you straight to an ad had been disabled, I downloaded the new app, and I am pretty happy with it. Unlike the other reviewer, I have no trouble with going back and forth between phone calls and the app.

### 3/5 — Overall great with one exception

*2017-01-20, version 3.8.1*

Love love love NPR and WUSF ... app is fine ... no operational problems ... I rarely look at the links to stories; I just press 'play' to listen to live broadcast & while out of town ... I successfully use the app and use it often; the one thing I find annoying is the 10 sec ad for the 'Bay Care Health Care' app or website that I'm forced to listen to EVERY time I launch the WUSF app before I can access the live broadcast. It's not just grating to hear it over and over but Bay Care services aren't even available where I live ... so it's pointless for me. That said, I enjoy NPR/WUSF so much that I put up with the ad.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Stopped working with last redesign

*2025-12-16, version 6.3.15*

I have it on my ancient iPad as well as my iPhone 17. It stopped working on both after the recent redesign. No amount of stroking or poking the play button makes it work. I’ve gone back to the TuneIn Radio app.

### 1/5 — Where’s the news and what’s with the advertisement

*2022-11-21, version 4.0.5*

Terrible App. If I could give 0 stars I would. Get rid of the advertisement when I hit play. Terrible. Just terrible

### 1/5 — Terrible update

*2019-06-17, version 4.0.1*

Do not update the software. You lose all the boxes with the news stories. Wish I could go back to prior version. Or find a different app for WUSF

### 1/5 — Disappointing "upgrade"

*2017-09-25, version 3.8.24*

This new version of the app plays an annoying ad for Seitenbach or 1 other company EVERY time you run the app or if stream is lost. For a non-profit like NPR, this is scandalous. DO NOT WANT. Running the old app instead. While new app has new features, it also buffers slowly compared to the new app.
*Edit* App crashed after iOS 11 update and did not work at all to play stream, for 3-4 days even with deleting and downloading app again. Very, very disappointed in local NPR station.

### 1/5 — A downgrade from the prior generation-

*2017-03-19, version 3.8.6*

Literally out of the frying pan- few days after the last review and the latest update freezes more than ever; all I want is a stream of the broadcast and frankly I'm probably going to just find an old pocket transistor radio BC the apps are getting worse.

The update constantly crashes & freezes up- doesn't smoothly transition from an interruption- call, text, alarm- back to app ... oh & forcing me to listen to the same ad over and again merely ensures I will never avail myself of those products.
As a WUSF donor I am beyond disappointed- if I could go back to the prior generation app I would.

### 1/5 — Bgoggans

*2016-10-23, version 3.7.46*

Keeps turning off, skipping backwards and forward, unreliable

### 2/5 — Wonderful app

*2026-01-06, version 6.3.15*

This is a huge upgrade from the last App, which was kind of wonky and didn’t work all the time

### 2/5 — Still needs lotza work. Zest? Isn’t that soap.

*2021-02-10, version 4.0.3*

It’s quite amazing that this broadcaster who has creative/intellectual resources available from a state university can’t design a better app. Instead it diverts users attention to a splashvert for Arts Axios (main$tream fart museums). This is a confusing GUI pictographic array that often dead ends into a black page. And then needs a restart. Like the station itself...

### 2/5 — Unavoidable ad

*2019-06-26, version 4.0.1*

The ad that runs before the stream will play is annoying. There’s no way to stop it like in a previous version.

### 2/5 — A step backwards

*2017-05-13, version 3.8.6*

Extra clicks and forced advertising ... really much worse than the old single click ap to listen.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I’m in the know

*2026-05-22, version 12.0.1*

Keeps me informed when I need it. Like the link to the news web page too!

### 5/5 — Looking forward to the WSMR app

*2026-02-13, version 6.3.15*

This is a solid upgrade from WUSF’s previous app.

### 5/5 — Great, but….

*2026-01-02, version 6.3.15*

Problem is I can’t listen when I’m out of country.

### 5/5 — Upgraded app

*2025-12-24, version 6.3.15*

Yay! Finally an upgraded app. I love it. Keep up the good work.

### 5/5 — Well done!

*2019-04-16, version 3.9.7*

Clear, easy to use and well organized.

### 5/5 — I use everyday

*2019-04-02, version 3.9.7*

This app provides live stream and some articles! All ya need.

### 5/5 — Great

*2018-07-18, version 3.9.7*

I do enjoy stability of this app and content)

### 5/5 — Great

*2018-06-25, version 3.9.7*

Love the app. Easy to use and smooth performance

### 5/5 — Better than TuneIn app

*2018-06-08, version 3.8.24*

Used to access via TuneIn Radio app, but this is better, with easy access to classical music on WSMR and podcasts. Add when you open is not annoying and easy to skip. I like supporting my local media too!

### 5/5 — Just what I wanted

*2018-01-15, version 3.8.24*

Easy access to the news and music I like most.
