(the entire app) ### 4/5 — Great augmented situational awareness *2020-10-23* Xavion is great once you configure and really get everything dialed in. It changes a lot each release even minor ones so you really have to keep on top of what changes occur so you know how to use it properly. I have practiced “engine out” procedures with it several times and it really does bring you to a runway but practice with it because it sometimes doesn’t bring you where you would see the runway miles before getting there if the airport area has trees or is hidden. I am considering dedicating an iPad mini to just xavion for emergency field location only. For me I am not yet willing to use it as a full efb. Excellent tool in the cockpit **Developer response:** Starting with 2.48, the maps are included with the base subscription at no extra charge. So there is no extra sign in and no extra charge. EVERYTHING is included with the base app subscription. I did this so people would not keep having to sign in again within the App, or buy other plans in addition to the App itself. There's no additional log-in because the charts are now included with the base app subscription. ### 2/5 — Podría ser tan buena. ¡Lástima! *2020-07-18, version 2.58* -No permite ajustar el altímetro manualmente, sino que toma el QNH por internet, de un aeropuerto cercano. Si tu aeródromo está lejos de un aeropuerto, la altitud que marca puede tener un error de cientos de pies. Esto simplemente es inaceptable. -No permite ingresar números negativos en valores geográficos (coordenadas). Not only does it help me visualise my weight and balance, it also automatically calculates my achieves takeoff distance. This lets me build a personal library of my “expected vs actual” performance in my aircraft. Really unique app. Austin also replies to emails which is cool. ### 5/5 — Really Neat App *2020-06-12* I’m just getting started with it but it appears to be a great back-up to your regular instruments, wether gages or glass. The fact that you can give it a test fly in X-Plane 11 is pretty neat as well. This lets you get familiar with the app before hitting the airways for good. Overall, well done. ### 5/5 — Fantastic SA with the additional the Flight Director *2020-06-08* With the addition of the Flight Director capability I have truly fallen in love with this app. I have it connected to my Stratux box and it is AMAZING how accurate it is to my actual altitude and airspeed. I’m still dialing in on how best to use the flight director capabilities but having it up and running all time and then able to hit the emergency button if something happens to give you guidance to the nearest airport is incredible. Also having additional 3D reference to approaches and the missed procedure is unprecedented in an iPad app. Looking forward to future improvements as the app is always getting better. ### 5/5 — Australia does work *2020-06-01, version 2.47* Australia is supported, I don’t think you get the charts for aus. not 100% sure. Have been using with X-plane 11 and it works great. I love the guidance down to the runway, the direct to, VFR/IFR approaches, not to mention it's nice to have a moving map and hud outside of the game. I run it on my iPhone and my iPad runs ForeFlight. Xavion is always on telling me where to land if something happens. Austin is very responsive to any issues you may have with the software and really is trying to make this the best end to end solution. There is a learning curve and some prework to get it dialed in but then it does all the thinking for you. All you have to do is fly the highway-in-the-sky hoops! I have it turned on with every flight on a separate iPad. In addition, it can be used with X-Plane to practice engine out emergencies as well as in the actual aircraft. Regards, Don ### 5/5 — Peace of mind *2019-10-19* As a student GA pilot, this app gives me that extra peace of mind in case my engine quits. I keep it on my iPhone 6 Plus mounted on the panel. It’s a little work to setup, but once that’s done it works perfectly. I also use it when flying X-Plane and have tested it countless times. It led me to a safe landing every time. Won’t fly without it. Austin, thank you for creating this one of a kind safety tool. No refund. No apologies. Greedy is an understatement to describe the developer Austin Meyer. I just saw someone use this app again and it is laughingly useless and obsolete now. For a subscription based model better stick with a larger company with established values and full features such as ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot. ### 1/5 — Not compatible with iPhone *2020-05-16, version 2.44* Was really excited to use this app, unfortunately it is not usable on newer iPhones (without a physical home button and with a top notch in the display). I was surprised to see this app was updated just a few days ago but still doesn't work with iPhones that have been out for multiple years now. Please look over ASAP ### 1/5 — Horrible to test drive... acts like a hijacker virus. would give Zero stars if I could *2019-12-28* Even you reach the time limit on the free version, when test driving this app, it not only stops and makes you ask for more minutes, it hijacks your whole iPad, and like a Virus, ALL you other apps now freeze and require extending time on Every One! I even erased and rebooted the iPad - and there still ghost hijacks. The nearest airport vector looked promising, but not when Xavion is behaving like a virus! As a CFII I can’t afford that. User beware!! **Developer response:** I never ask anyone for "more minutes"... you seem to be confusing Xavion with some other App... perhaps your cell-phone subscription? There is no possible way that Xavion has any impact on any other App. You have had something else go wrong with your iPad that is not related to Xavion. Perhaps you are running out of disk space and this is causing an issue? I never wrote Xavion to hijack anyones' device, or any other App. You can email me at austin@Xavion.com if you still think that Xavion caused your problems.. though I'm not sure how I could ever convince you that I am not the one that is causing you to have problems with your iPhone.... ### 1/5 — support *2019-12-11, version 2.35* dose this support xplane 11 ? ### 1/5 — Beware- does not work with Seattle Avionics EFB- FLYQ *2019-10-14, version 2.33* The description claims it works with Seattle Avionics existing subscriptions. I downloaded it. This app DOES NOT connect to your existing FLYQ subscription or app. I wanted the ‘engine out/glide assistance’ backup to my EFB. The app does NOT work unless you subscribe to a monthly/yearly airport data plan thru Xavion. As I already have a lifetime subscription I will not buy more plates and charts. Im ok with paying a small one time fee for use of the app and possibly an upgrade, if reasonable. But I will not pay additional monies for something I already have. The app looks good on the surface and I would love to try it in the airplane. Too bad. One issue I had while configuring my plane, no option to set glide with fixed pitch prop planes. The developer reported just leave the data points for CSP descents blank and the app would adjust, it did not. I kept getting an error message that the formula was incorrect. I did get it close to book POH numbers if I fiddled a lot with the parameters on my own. The app is a great idea for those EFB’s without engine out glide features ( Seattle Avionics? Are you listening? Is this thing on??) but Im against a $10/monthly data charge to make the app function.be great addition to an EFB app. I attempted to get this app working for almost a week and after a few back and forth emails finally got a definitive answers from the developer on setup that partially worked but would never come right out and say a data subscription was mandatory. Last email said, just refer to his website. Excellent Vertical and Lateral Navigation guidance LNAV VNAV using the hoops. No database for IFR flights outside the USA. Subscribed to the world airport database. Some countries like Greece for example appear with generic data. For example all airports have generic runway lengths of 2500 ft. Lateral guidance using the hoops directs the pilot to the center of the airport and not the runway in use. That affects vertical guidance as well. Guidance in US airports tried was excellent. Obstacle database appears complete in the US. Outside the US for example Greece there is no obstacle database only terrain. When trying to add a new airport the APP crashes and needs reinstallation. It would be nice to be able to add user waypoints in a future version as well. The EMER button is the best feature of a his app . Awaiting real flight testing. Able to connect with DYNON D1 via WiFi. Could be proven very useful backup tool-in marginal VFR or IFR conditions when engine power is lost or primary instruments fail ### 1/5 — App no longer opens after latest update *2019-08-08, version 2.30* ?????? ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Excellent and wonderful support *2022-08-15, version 3.02* I recently flew from Houston to Salt Lake City. I ran Xavion alongside the IflyGPS app and really found its features to be very useful. The NEXRAD weather data was actually more accurate and easily visible than that on my G1000 and the IflyGPS. The VFR approach highway in the sky is vey helpful when flying into small mountain airports. I have also found austin to be very responsive and helpful when questions arise. I highly recommend this app. Mike Belfort ### 5/5 — Great app and outstanding support from the developer *2021-11-12* I have used Xavion while flying my Cessna 150 for a few years. The app has always worked perfectly in the cockpit and it gives me peace of mind knowing my options in the event the engine quits. I have communicated with Austin a couple of times and he has always been responsive. Most recently I had noticed a minor display issue on the new iPad mini 6 as it has a larger screen than previous models. With Austin’s help had numerous hours of enjoyment & got to learn how it all works. After this Austin kindly got Xavion to pair with sky echo 2 for real world flight. I was fortunate enough to get to fly on the 12/4/21 the first day we were permitted to fly again in the uk . I was coming in to land at our home base egnv for right base 05 . Before ATC came on to instruct me to enter a orbit for approximately 5 minutes. I was already setting up for it as I could see all the the jets approaching on ils . As Xavion all so shows the wake turbulence no worries there . It was remarkable to have all this visual awareness on the screen. To set me up for a perfect visual view as they all approached to land . I have never as much as looked at gaming in all my years ! To many to mention. Also is the price lower for reduced functionality for Canadian users ? ### 5/5 — Innovated and well integrated App *2020-11-29, version 2.74* I have a great app I have been using on Android. I got X-planes flight simulator to introduce my grandson to flying. He is getting pretty good at it with just a mouse. In the process I stumbled onto Xavion video and since it had a 30 day trial I downloaded it on my IPhone. Since it isn’t like other apps it took me a minute to really understand everything it could do. I was impressed that I could use it both in my airplane and with the X-planes simulator. I set it up on X-planes for my grandson who up to now had only flown the 15 min free demo sessions on X-planes. I set him up at the airport near his home and fight planed a 300 mile cross country to my home. He flew X-planes to my home and landed in 2 hours using Xavion hoops for navigation and let down planning. The next day I took him flying at my home airport and let him fly the real airplane with Xavion. He found his way back to the airport and had me setup for a landing. I have much more to explore but I was impressed with the integration. I will do formal weight and balance in the future, because it is the easiest and best I have seen and it provides Xavion with information to plan power off emergency landing at near by airports. I have orders an iPad because my eyes are not as good as my grandson’s and I couldn’t see some of the text well enough on the iPhone in the cockpit. This app seems to be continuously improved. And it is written by a real pilot with passion to make it work well. He has claimed the flight simulation market its X-planes and beat out all the competitors. As and aside, I will tell you the my son is a Lt. Col in the USAF and commanded an international flight training squadron. When I visited there I found there flight simulators were all based on X-planes. I also worked to Evans and Sutherland. The invented world class visual systems for flight simulators. There market is eroding because the latest gaming hardware pared with X-planes is good enough. It beats out the million dollar option in may cases. ### 5/5 — Remains the Cutting Edge *2020-09-27* I enjoyed a cross country trip last week from Southern California KSEE -KDMN-KALM-KBGD-KWDG Enid, Oklahoma while running Xavion. Throughout the trip I gained an appreciation of the power of this application as it forecasted real time safe power off glides to airports within my grasp in any event of a power failure. This App continues to offer the most sophisticated features still not offered in the other best in class products. I run Xavion alongside Seattle Avionics FlyQ EFB to add just another form of redundancy, both coupled with iLevil AW3 for ADS-B in. The original mission statement of glide guidance to a best suitable airport remains a favorite feature.
