Haven’t found anything else quite as deep yet intuitive, other than XCOM 1. Installed and working as intended] Works perfectly on my iPad Pro 12.9 M2 but I do feel like I am playing a dated version of what my hardware could handle currently. I have had no crashes, excessive battery usage or high temps, so I’m pretty sure my hardware could handle added shadows, resolution etc. And this game and its players deserve to play the most efficiently ported version of this game that is possible and I truly believe that this port, XCOM 2 and Feral Interactive would benefit from a refresh. That being said even if Feral decided not to, this port of XCOM 2 is excellent and functions very well with touch controls, its a deep game with probably one of the best replayability available on the App Store. There is so much customisation for different playthroughs and with the added collection content I believe I have really got my money worth. I’d like to have Xbox controller support as I would like to play on my iPad, which is pretty large, docked into my Magic Keyboard so i can choose to have a more comfortable playing experience. And if feral did do a refresh with added ingame shadows, vfx, resolution bump, controller support etc then I think this timeless masterpiece, with a little marketing boost, would see a major bump engagement. Easy 5 star review nonetheless. I have tried all the suggested “solutions” provide by the support and it has resolved in nothing. Still having the same issue. Been almost 4 weeks since the update and the companies customer service has not responded to emails or provided any additional support other then say that this uncommon issue, but if you look at the apps most recent reviews and Reddit posts you’ll see it’s not just me dealing with negative experience :( ### 1/5 — Awesome besides no controller support *2026-06-28, version 1.6* Incredible game, great port. It is very nostalgic, I mostly prefer the interface to the console version, and it runs great, even on my several-years-old iPad. ### 5/5 — Phenomenal port of one of my fave games of all time *2026-08-07, version 1.6.1* Played about 30 hours on my iPhone 12 so far and in some respects it’s better than vanilla pc WOTC with plenty of great quality of life features I’m surprised weren’t in the unmodded version on pc. Very smart and snappy control scheme with big chunky buttons that are placed very well, basically the best way to play xcom 2 on the go imo I never liked the alien rulers DLC but it can easily be turned off by going into your device settings, apps, xcom 2 and choosing which DLCs to activate. WOTC is integrated fully so you can’t remove that if you want the vanilla original experience but WOTC is an excellent expansion Obviously the game isn’t as high res and crisp as the pc version even on full graphics mode but it still looks excellent, very clear and all the animations, little details and destructible terrain are all there. Some of the textures can look a little bad especially on the lost but it’s absolutely not a deal breaker at all Runs very smoothly until my phone gets too hot then it chugs a bit but that can be mitigated with the advice below. Only had a crash now and again when making a manual save in 30 hours but it’s definitely very stable plus has plenty of auto saves. Energy saving mode is great if the device gets too hot (lowers the FPS to let your phone cool off) and best graphics mode heats my phone up a ton but it’s nice to have the option for people with more powerful devices. Generally drains about 1% a minute of battery and I find taking the cover off my phone keeps it from getting too hot and causing the game to stutter. Runs absolutely great as long as you keep on top of the heat issue I play with energy saving mode when I’m out and about and play performance mode when I have my phone plugged in at home and it runs super well like that Only thing I really miss is the legacy soundtrack that was included as a free update on the pc version and the after mission photo mode isn’t there, plus the photos you take of bond mates and memorials as low res but these are seriously my only issues and I had to really nitpick for them Brilliant work by the team who handled the port ### 5/5 — Buy it *2026-08-03, version 1.6.1* Buy it. ### 5/5 — Such a fun tactical strategy game *2026-08-03, version 1.6.1* This is such a great adaptation of the PC game. 12/10 --- *Data collected daily from the US App Store and indexed by [AppsHunter](https://appshunter.io/).
