Good quantization too. Great interface and solid performance running with my AUM sessions. I do wish there was a way to control the transport or track mutes via MIDI, or some way to start/stop sequences without opening up the app. I find myself going back to Modstep for that capability. ### 5/5 — Excellent *2020-08-20, version 2.2.13* This app took me a short while to get into, but is now my go to seq. app. Still leaning all it can do, it really is excellent and developer response is superb. ### 5/5 — Preferred over my desktop DAW piano rolls *2020-04-19, version 2.2.11* At first I was just testing Xequence out here and there with some instruments in Aum and finding it a joy to work with until I recently decided to try out the Bluetooth connection between my iPad and workstation because I didn’t realize how low the latency would be, but now I’m having more fun composing in Xequence with my DAWs (Ableton and Cubase). While this isn’t going to cover all the midi features cubase has, it has all the essential ingredients to get the notes and cc data along with efficient use of editing features. It’s EFFICIENT. It’s more immediate than having one hand on the keyboard and the other on the trackball. I literally have the piano roll in my hands. And if you want to experiment, there Polyhymnia! Just playing with the options in realtime works as a live performance tool! I use Beatmaker 3 frequently which has its own piano roll but the size is still confined; now I have more space to work with in Xequence! It’s a no brainer ### 5/5 — Incredible tool, but somehow it isn’t AUV3. *2020-04-17, version 2.2.9* Sorry devs, you deserve it all but really AUV3 is a must now and especially for such an amazing midi app. If this was an auv3, even if it could only be instanced once (like audiokit looper), it would be 1000 better. If you don’t care about AUV3, don’t even doubt it you will love this. And if you do care... maybe invest on it and figure it out. I haven’t used it at all, but not because it isn’t amazing, simply because I like to keep it all inside of AUM until I’m mixing. I’ve tried recording all my midi from AUM into Xequence and that is doable and works fine however I have a modular workflow and don’t really rely on timelines too much unless I’m mixing so that’s just me. I would totally recommend. Just wish the devs would at least let us use the keys and pads as AUv3s (sorry but your already available AUv3s for keys and pads are a bit outdated and buggy, it would be great for Xequence 2 to at least include those on the purchase, of not Xequence 2 being entirely AUV3). ### 5/5 — Incredible period *2020-04-07, version 2.2.8* Update: giving this one 6 stars. I’ve been in contact with the developer because i had a few questions regarding use with BM3 and Elastic drums. Not only was he quick to respond, but even sent me an update to the elastic drums map in Xequence 2. He addressed each situation and all of my questions have been answered within a matter of days. It was as though I’m his only customer. This midi editor/sequencer has made my switch to ios for music complete. I thought a touch screen would make a piano roll easier than using a mouse, but quickly learned that that was not the case. Now, with Xequence 2, i can manipulate notes with ease, and in many cases its easier than the desk top. Sadly this is typical of the iOS store where companies don’t tell you that you have to buy things and then they get you to falsely believe that you’re buying software that is complete and then you get surprised once you’ve paid an initial amount.. disturbing dishonest. ### 1/5 — No sound *2024-04-11, version 2.6.1* Actually no sound ### 1/5 — Absolutely the WORST, *2022-12-24, version 2.4.1* most counterintuitive, inconvenient, anti-user, effort-DRAINING, BLINDINGLY incompetent, terribly designed, stupidly & inefficiently organized WASTE OF CODE IN THE APP STORE. And that’s saying something. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing problems export midi to different apps. The exported midi seems to be out of sync. I hope this issue will be fix. So it will be compatible to other apps. ### 3/5 — Not AUV3 *2025-04-23, version 2.6.1* Title says it all… ### 3/5 — Good app, but auto save screwed me over *2020-08-08, version 2.2.13* This is a really great, well designed sequencer and miles ahead of GarageBand in terms of efficiency and power. I especially appreciate the auto melody generator, the ability to use scales system-wide, and the ease of editing notes. However, unlike nearly every other iPad app, YOU MUST REMEMBER TO PRESS “SAVE” MANUALLY. Auto save usually works, but for some reason it didn’t work for me this time, loading only a blank file. I had rarely remembered to press the actual save button, so I lost hours of work.⏱ Also, when you delete or change a controller that you have already tweaked in Pianoroll or Keyboard view, it doesn’t seem to reset that controller value properly, so the result will still sound different until you restart the external synth app. (EDIT: Not this app’s fault! It’s an issue with the specific app I’m using, Roland Sound Canvas.) Never disappointed. ### 5/5 — Midi Studio Dream *2023-03-20* This app is so underrated. I run midi synths and eurorack, with Blocks Wave and Launchpad. Xequence handles all the timing fine and links to Audiobus. It’s very stable and for midi only studio, I’d highly recommend it. So far it’s been really stable. Brilliant. To the dev, keep up the good work! ### 5/5 — MIDI sequencer extraordinaire *2022-07-28, version 2.3.2* The best just better ### 5/5 — Great App *2022-07-27, version 2.3.1* This is a really nice app with some great features, it makes lite work of things like midi time stretch and feels like it’s the foundation for an excellent app. Excited to see how this app develops. Don’t get me wrong, this app is already very capable… I have various DAWs and Midi editors and would not expect to need this app but I do find myself using it. It’s a really good for trying things out even you later on move to a DAW, this app without a doubt has it’s place. With regards to midi editor, it’s basic but it does do all the basics and does them well, unlike other various dedicated midi editors I’ve purchased that people seem to rave about, they may have lots of features but seem to be missing the basics or poorly implemented things like a usable CC editor Xequence has a good one. Xequence is a bit of kit well worth having and if I’d come across it sooner it would have saved me purchasing a lot of other apps. ### 5/5 — Best sequencer by Far *2022-07-03, version 2.2.15* I’ve been using sequencers since the days of the Atari 1040st and this is easily the best I’ve used, what made those sequencers so good to begin with was was the rock solid timing and Xequence 2 starts there. Add to that ease of use and bundles of options and you’re only halfway to describing how good this app is. What I like is that within minutes once you realise how it works you’re making music, no fuss just making music. With a background in Hip Hop, Disco/Funk and R&B I can get that elusive feel that’s so crucial to the end product, Xequence 2 gives me all the tools I need to do that and then some. And with the most responsive developer I’ve encountered, Alexander even replied to an email on a Sunday and with a favourable response. What more can I ask for🤷🏿‍♂️👍🏿. Whether you’re making funky music or industrial and need a pure sequencer that integrates with your iOS ecosystem then this is the app for you. Would love to see tempo and time signature tracks added, but does everything I expected it to do.
