## What is Xgest?

A light comes on in your dashboard. An amber horseshoe with an exclamation mark in it. You have no idea what it means — and no idea what it's called, which means you can't look it up.

Your manual knows. It's 532 pages, it's in the glovebox, and it calls that thing a TPMS indicator, a phrase you have never heard in your life.

Xgest closes that gap. Ask "what's the orange horseshoe light?" and it works out you mean TPMS, finds the page, and tells you what your manual says. Then it shows you the page.
Every answer points to the page in your own manual it came from — Xgest never guesses.

ASK IN YOUR OWN WORDS
You don't need to know the right term. That's the whole problem — the manual speaks manual, and you don't. Searching a Honda HR-V manual for "orange horseshoe light" matches zero of its 532 pages. Xgest translates first.

NO WORDS AT ALL? PHOTOGRAPH IT
A symbol on a dial. An unlabelled button. A light you've never seen. Point the camera at it instead of trying to describe it.

EVERY ANSWER CITES A PAGE
Tap the citation and the real page opens. Not a summary of the page — the page. So you never have to take our word for it.

THE ONE IN THE DRAWER
Some manuals were never a PDF and never will be. The card that came with the dishwasher. The booklet for the mower. The folded insert in the box. Photograph the pages and Xgest reads them, on your phone. Older scanned PDFs — pictures of pages with no text behind them — work the same way.

ONE THING, SEVERAL MANUALS
The owner's manual and the nav supplement. The use-and-care guide and the installation sheet. Keep them together under the thing they belong to.

ASK YOUR WHOLE SHELF (Plus)
Don't know which manual has the answer — or which appliance is even beeping? Ask once. Xgest searches every manual you own and tells you which one each part of the answer came from. Unlimited manuals and shelf-wide ask come with Xgest Plus, a one-time purchase.

New in 2.2: Xgest now surfaces one cited fact about something you own — every day. Tap any manual, or browse your whole shelf, when you’ve got a minute to kill.

YOUR MANUALS STAY YOURS
Xgest reads and indexes your manuals on your phone. They are never uploaded. When you ask a question, what leaves is your question and a few paragraphs from the handful of pages your phone picked — never the manual. Pages you photograph never leave at all.

No accounts. No sign-up. No ads. Nothing tracking you.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-08-21

Xgest now tells you something you didn’t know about your own stuff — every day.

DAILY FACTS Open the app and there’s often a fact waiting: one specific, cited thing from a manual on your shelf — a hidden feature, a limit, a maintenance tip. Tap any manual for its own fact, or browse your whole shelf when you’ve got a minute to kill.

RECENT FACTS Every fact you’ve seen is saved and reachable from Home, any manual, or the shelf — so you never lose one.

Also fixed: renaming items with more than one manual (like an appliance with both an owner’s manual and an installation guide) now works — tap the item’s name.

Your manuals still never leave your phone.

### 2.1 — 2026-08-19

Don't know what it's called? Now you can just describe it.

DESCRIBE IT, GET THE PAGE
"Orange horseshoe light." "HS on the oven panel." Describe what you see — a shape, a color, two letters on a display — and Xgest figures out what you mean, then answers from YOUR manual, cited to the page. Never a guess.

MEET SCOUT
Point the camera at anything — in a store, a showroom, your kitchen — and Scout tells you what it is. Scout keeps a history of everything you've spotted, adds the ones you own to your shelf, and can share a find with a QR code.

SIRI & SPOTLIGHT
Your manuals are part of your phone now. Search "dishwasher manual" in Spotlight and jump straight in, or ask Siri. App Shortcuts included.

SHARPER EVERYWHERE
Search a big shelf instantly, broaden a manual hunt when the first pass misses, and jump from any appliance straight to its exact part.

Your manuals still never leave your phone.

### 2.0 — 2026-07-30

Now Xgest does appliances, too — and setting one up is a single photo.

SCAN THE PLATE Point your camera at an appliance's rating plate (the sticker on the back, base, or inside a door) and Xgest reads the brand, model, and serial right off it. No typing a 14-character model number by hand.

FIND THE MANUAL, IN THE APP Don't have the PDF? Xgest searches for it without leaving the app. When the real manual is on screen, one tap pulls it in and files it under the right appliance.

ADD AN APPLIANCE, MANUAL OR NOT Snap the plate to add something you own even before you've tracked down its manual — and get pointed to the exact parts for that model when you ask.

Also: smoother backup and restore, and a "remove permanently" for things you're done with.

Your manuals still never leave your phone.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-29

Ask your whole shelf.

Until now every question started with picking the right manual. Now you can just ask — Xgest searches across everything you own and tells you which manual each part of the answer came from. It's built for the moments you don't know which thing to blame: "what's that beeping?", "which of these needs a filter change?", "anything I should unplug before the storm?" Error codes work here too: ask what UE means and Xgest finds the manual that lists it.

And when your manual doesn't have the answer, it often knows where it is. Plenty of manuals print an error code and then point you at a QR code or a web page for the details. Xgest now finds that link on the page it cited and puts it under the answer — one tap, instead of hunting for a code scanner.

Shelf-wide ask and unlimited manuals come with Xgest Plus — a one-time purchase, no subscription. The free app keeps up to three manuals and answers each one individually, exactly as before.
