## What is Xiaoman Math · Grade 3 Term 1?

Xiaoman ("not yet full") is a companion to the Shanghai Grade 3 first-term math curriculum (沪教版三年级上册), built for families at home and abroad. The interface is in English; lessons and problems are in Simplified Chinese, the same language your child uses with the textbook.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Lessons a child can read alone Every one of the 39 topics has its own lesson: a story to start, step-by-step thinking, the rule, worked examples, column-method demonstrations, diagrams, common mistakes, a "try it" and a "challenge". Bar models, area models, 24-hour clock faces and grid perimeters are drawn by the app.

English perspective for every topic Each topic comes with the English math vocabulary used in U.S. classrooms (regroup, partial products, remainder, times as many…), with Chinese glosses, example sentences and audio, plus the way U.S. teachers approach the same idea: number talks, area models, partial quotients, open number lines, interpreting the remainder. A searchable glossary covers the whole book. It is not a grade-level mapping; it is a bridge for families who move between the two systems.

Practice that never repeats 36 problem types are generated with fresh numbers every time: mental math, column multiplication and division, remainders, times-as-many, price × quantity, calendars, length units, perimeter, kilometres and routes. Beyond the basics there are exam-style items (write the expression, combine expressions, error reasoning, evening out, reading information, diagram problems) and 8 kinds of thinking problems (best option, working backwards, case by case, patterns…) plus classic puzzles such as chickens-and-rabbits. Three difficulty levels: Basic, Advanced, Challenge.

Worksheets: print, work on paper, check by photo Generate A4 worksheets or sectioned tests by topic, by unit or from a custom selection, with room to write column work. Answer keys print on a separate page. When the child is done, take a photo: the app reads the handwritten answers on its own worksheet (matched by the code in the header), marks each item, and lets you correct anything it misread.

Weak spots, sorted automatically Every mistake is tagged with an error type (order of operations, parentheses, stopped after one step, reversed add/subtract, wrong relationship…) and a thinking pattern. The weak-spot page shows accuracy, error counts and advice per topic, and generates targeted practice in one tap. The knowledge map colours all 39 topics by mastery.

Parent report A weekly summary for busy parents: problems done, first-try accuracy, days practised, worksheets checked, compared with last week; topics that levelled up; what needs attention and why; suggestions for next week. Share it as an image.

All learning data stays on the device. No account, no sign-in, no personal information about your child is collected. The camera is used only to photograph worksheets.

Xiaoman is a self-study tool for families. It is not a course and has no teachers, live classes or community.
