### 4/5 — 10 Years

*2019-11-26*

I’ve had this app installed on my iPhones for 10 years. The only thing I wish it had were notifications when new comics come out.

### 5/5 — Thought is was dead, it ain’t

*2019-07-18*

I thought the app had died (comics wouldn’t load past 1248, dev fixed it. Yay!

### 5/5 — Perfect App

*2019-07-15*

Simple, no ads, does exactly what it advertises. Been using it for over 5 years and I've never had an issue.

### 4/5 — Love this app! Just ONE FEATURE REQ!!!

*2019-06-26*

Love this app! It’s up-to-date, simple and easy to use. Just one request: can the app PLEASE NOTIFY ME when a new cartoon is published???

### 3/5 — Goodish

*2019-04-26, version 3.3*

The app works but won’t show more recent comics.

### 3/5 — Doesn’t load on new phone

*2019-04-05*

I just got an iPhone X. It won’t load anything past comic 1248.

### 3/5 — Decent app

*2019-03-30*

Has been reliable in the past, but now it will only display comics up to #1248.

### 5/5 — Solid

*2019-01-30*

Reliable, dependable, does exactly what I want it to

### 4/5 — Just one little irritating bug...

*2018-11-30*

Love this, thank you - I have just one problem, though...when I try to save my favorite comics, the app crashes. I can share comics & stuff, but when I try to save it I am unceremoniously kicked out. Any chance you guys could beat up the bug causing this? Thanks again! 😊

### 5/5 — Reliable app...

*2018-09-09*

There aren’t many apps I’ve had as solid as this one. A while back there was an issue with showing that comics had been downloaded, but the developer fixed that and it’s fine now. There’s a useful search function, and I love the ability to save or share comics. The only thing I’d ask for in the future is an option to star my favorites so they’re easy to find. A nice blue star would really help them to pop when scrolling and an option to show only favorites would make them so easy to find when sharing with friends. Overall, a great app. My compliments to the developer. I’ve designed and programmed apps myself, and this is some fine, solid, sleek work. Thank you for making it! :)

### 5/5 — Best use of time

*2018-04-27, version 3.2*

A very good example of all that is good in this world

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2017-11-26, version 3.2*

This is THE best xkcd reader for iOS! It's fast and lightweight, you can cache comics to read later (even downloading the entire archive if you want), and you can search for comics by words in the title or even the body!
Definitely the best xkcd app out there.

There is one way that I'd like to see it improved: several years ago, Randall started uploading @2x ("Retina") versions of the comics, and it would be nice if I could see those in the app instead of the @1x versions. It should probably be an option, as some people I'm sure would rather not use the extra space required, but I definitely would!

### 3/5 — Great app. No longer works.

*2017-10-19, version 3.2*

Great app. Doesn’t work with iOS 11.

### 5/5 — XKCD is excellent

*2017-05-15*

App is perfect, simple, effective, no ads, no junk.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2017-01-24, version 3.2*

Extremely simple and easy to use. Nice work!

### 5/5 — Does exactly what it says on the tin

*2017-01-13*

It's an app for viewing xkcd comics, and is better than the website version. As a fan of xkcd, I am grateful for its existence.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Soap Box

*2020-05-12*

The app has little to offer to make it worth downloading. The creator RM stopped being funny and had too many agendas that he wants to push on his readers.

### 1/5 — Too buggy

*2017-10-23, version 3.2*

It’s kind of got the right idea, design-wise, but it’s too buggy and laggy to be usable on my iPhone 8. The xkcd Open Source app is much better.

### 1/5 — No way to see alt text

*2015-11-01, version 3.0.1*

No way to see alt text

### 1/5 — AltText

*2013-05-25, version 3.0.1*

There's no alt text. I can just use a web browser.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2013-04-19, version 3.0.1*

1 in 4 comics would simply load a blank image. There was no option to attempt to reload the image.

With 25% of comics unviewable, app is useless.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2012-11-17, version 3.0.1*

App worked fine before, now does not show read/unread and has not loaded all the comics. When will Apple allow us to install previous versions of apps?

### 1/5 — Bad

*2012-02-07, version 2.1*

App did not warn me about tornado.

### 1/5 — Eeps

*2011-08-29, version 2.1*

No retina support after months, what a shame. Deleted

### 2/5 — Basic Basic Basic

*2019-01-24*

First time I opened it I was shown a plain list of numbered titles… starting in the 1200 range. The current comic at the time of this writing is 2102. It gave me a loading symbol… and pulled in a couple hundred more. Not even up to the latest though.

### 2/5 — Very nice

*2018-07-20*

Fun and fairly easy to navigate. All it needs is a "save image" and "search" feature, and it's perfect.

UPDATE: the following features have been added since my review. However with the newest update the "save image" function causes the app to crash.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Does what it says on the tin

*2025-01-11*

needs a favorite button :)

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2024-04-26, version 3.6*

Does a great job. Simple and effective.

### 5/5 — I still use this app daily

*2024-04-02, version 3.6*

Great app, really clean and minimal

### 5/5 — Great

*2023-03-27*

Very good 5 stars also it is very good and did I mention it is very good?

### 5/5 — I think it needs a be fix

*2021-09-14, version 3.6*

One of my oldest apps. Straightforward. Made before all the crap they add into apps now. Great work. I think it needs an update though. New comics are not loading as of 9/13/21.

### 5/5 — Keeps it simple. 👍

*2021-06-30, version 3.6*

Of the XKCD apps out there this is the simplest and it does exactly what it should: shows the comics and Alt-text in a straightforward view that works really smoothly.
I stopped using the app because of the 1248 bug; I’m delighted that the bug has been fixed and I’m back to my regular XKCD updates. (+1 star to Paul for patiently responding to my bug reports and updating the app!)

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2021-02-06, version 3.5*

Brilliant

### 5/5 — Great for mobile

*2020-11-18, version 3.5*

I love this app. Lately there’s a small bug that seems to crash it when using the arrows to go to the next comic, although that’s only happening for me in comics numbered 400-405 or so.

### 5/5 — Praise too late?

*2019-07-24, version 3.3*

I love this app (and XKCD itself). I've been using it to see the comic strips every Monday, Wednesday and Friday since forever. I've never left a review and I should have. So sorry, and thanks devs! But am I too late? Is it being deprecated? No new comics have been added for the past week or two :((( Come back! Don't leave me this way!

### 5/5 — Still the best one

*2019-07-19, version 3.4*

Was worried this week when I realized it hadn’t loaded any new comics in a while, but somehow after over ten years the developer is still finding time to support his old free app as soon as problems arise.

About as feature-complete as it could be, and while it doesn’t support the few interactive comics that have appeared over the years it does a solid job with the rest of them. Search functionality is surprisingly effective, and will check titles, hover-text *and* a transcript of all text within the images themselves, which is fantastic for trying to find that one comic you remember the punchline to but really want to show someone.
