## What is xRapid?

A world first in mobile health, xRapid-Malaria allows health workers from all over the world to diagnose malaria quickly, accurately, with less than an hour of training.

The app provides qualitative and quantitative diagnostic results with an accuracy greater than 98% in both laboratory and field conditions. Additionally, it has the lowest cost per test on the global market.

xRapid-Malaria is based on the traditional thick smear diagnostic test used in optical malaria parasite microscopy. The analysis is automated by means of digital image analysis and artificial intelligence. It runs locally, without requiring an internet connection. Largely independent of the operator skills, it combines the quality assurance and accuracy of a laboratory microscope test - the gold standard - with the accessibility and speed of rapid diagnostic tests, all at a significantly lower cost than either.

Features:
- Diagnoses malaria from traditional microscope slides at a rate of 30 per hour within 98% of accuracy, with a sensibility of 2 parasites per microliter
- All five types of plasmodium (Falciparum, Vivax, Ovalae, Malariae, Knowlesi) detected
- Both traditional Giemsa and Field stains now supported
- Accurate parasite count per microliter, by raw numbers or by percentage
- Automated generation of reports: send my mail, export as PDF or spreadsheet, print
- Functionality to store patient files and practitioner details
- Save and upload high quality microscopy pictures for QC or further analysis

Feel free to contact us to receive detailed protocols for the preparation of thick smears, and our best practice guide.

PLEASE NOTE: A COMPOUND MICROSCOPE WITH 1000× OIL-IMMERSION OBJECTIVE, AN IPHONE ADAPTER AND A TEST CONTRACT ARE REQUIRED FOR THE USE OF THIS APPLICATION.

## Key features

- Diagnoses malaria from microscope slides

### 5/5 — Improve accuracy and quality of Malaria diagnostic

*2016-11-22, version 1.15.1*

I was impressed by the simplicity of use and how fast is the diagnostic analysis. It solves a main problem here in Africa as we don't need higly trained microscopists to run test.
I advise anyone to try it.

### 5/5 — automated malaria diagnosis!

*2016-02-21, version 1.01*

Thank you for the team behind xRapid. a much need automated tool for Malaria diagnosis!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2015-12-22, version 1.0*

Can't wait to see what they will come up next!

### 5/5 — The mhealth app that changes everything

*2015-12-07, version 1.0*

I have been waiting for a long time for an app that makes a difference. xRapid: Malaria Diagnosis 2.0

### 4/5 — this is big

*2015-11-17, version 1.0*

From what I can see this could have a huge impact on malaria diagnosis. Fast accurate and cheap diagnosis is a huge problem in tackling malaria and this seems to have cracked it. It needs a specific microscope which is constraint to take up. I hope this gets solved soon

### 5/5 — Great idea and nice design

*2015-11-11, version 1.0*

Great app for a good cause. Keep going guys

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.50 — 2017-01-16

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.

This release includes fixes and the most requested features:
- support for Field stain, tailored to the fast thick smear protocol
- iPhone 7 support, feel free to contact us if you cannot source an adapter for your microscope
- unified results/test log views
- export to spreadsheets and PDF
- a flock of non-critical bugs (parasites? ;-) squashed
We have now tested successfully on Olympus, Nikon and Leica microscopes, and are always happy to try more.

### 1.15.1 — 2016-09-09

This is a minor release to fix a few things before the new OS comes out. Among those, we added:
- better support for iPhone 6S
- added a new export option (labelled photos)
- tweaked the "no patient" option to print the lab book identification on pictures for easier referencing
- minor bugs fixing.
Thank you for your continued support!

### 1.15 — 2016-06-14

Thank you for your continued support, it is pushing us to deliver a better xRapid every time. Here is a list of the features contained in this release, it is a big one.
- xRapid works with both portable and compound microscope (New!) at 1000 times magnification: no more need for a special microscope.
- We have increased the sensitivity of the thick smear diagnostic to a point where it is now reliable to identify the type of malaria parasite.
- We have removed the controls for image focus and lighting: all are now fully automated for optimized image quality.
- We have recalibrated the analysis method for all iPhone models above 5S, up to the latest.
- We have fixed a number of minor bugs and issues. We are on a path to eliminate all those things that bother us (well, basically, slow us) when we are performing a diagnostic: your suggestions, as always, are most welcome.

We have tested xRapid on an extensive range of standard, upright microscopes with 100x immersion oil lenses, and it works now with most LED and halogen lights. You will just need an adapter to connect your iPhone to your microscope, feel free to contact us to get one.

### 1.11 — 2016-02-26

We have been hard at work, with a string of refinements and novelties. Here we go:
- numerous bug fixes, please keep the reports coming, it just makes the app better;
- a serious interface refresh, both in terms of UI and experience;
- a completely redesigned Options, because...
- Print is new, setup a network printer in Options, and you will be able to print Reports directly from xRapid!
- for users interested in keeping a Log of tests performed, rather than a book of Patients, we've got you covered now
- the demo switch has disappeared, now we default to demo mode if you don't have test units in your account, long press on the xRapid logo at the bottom to get out of demo mode
- and finally: some speed improvements, as we keep working on the diagnostics.

We hope you do enjoy this release, and would much appreciate a rating if you do like our work.
