It pops up 3 times and if I don’t catch the first one, I have to close out the app and try again. This game is not fun at 6am. Also, inventory counts do not automatically save after each entry and you have to manually go to the next item on your list. Numerous features are wildly inefficient. Inaccuracies on the reporting and costing side of things are a nightmare to fix. Waste of money and a waste of resources. ### 1/5 — Don’t Waste your time with this Garbage App *2022-05-11, version 4.2.1* For Almost 6 months my Restaurant group has been trying to use the horrible app. The amount of hours that have been spent programming the AI that never seems to read invoices correctly. Inventory is an absolute disaster, every week items disappear or no longer are recognized. When totals are calculated the are constantly wrong. The only way to contact them after your short onboarding is a one way email, they never actually respond to you and if they do all they say is “its a glitch, and we are trying to work on that” i could go on for days about all the issues. Why Toast partnered with them, I have no idea? Save yourself the headache and pick one of the many back office programs that are all light years better than this pile of trash ### 3/5 — Camera capture *2022-01-17, version 4.1.4* The auto capture feature on the camera needs a some work. Otherwise, would be an excellent app. ### 2/5 — Horrible customer service *2021-11-23, version 4.1.4* Did a couple months with Xtrachef. Their customer service is horrible/barely exists. Attempted to import my invoices and assign sales categories. Anytime I had a question they would just respond with… watch this tutorial video. Often the responses to my questions took a week for them even to respond. Told them I wanted to cancel because I wasn’t getting value out of a software system I couldn’t set up. They promised better support. Nope, still didn’t respond in a week (if at all) to simple questions. Now, I believe the system is probably worth it, set up properly. If you are a small restaurant owner like myself that’s always busy, you might also find it impossible to learn a whole software suite with little to no support. I gave two stars because I believe the system has value, theoretically. ### 2/5 — Fundamentally flawed. *2021-07-25, version 4.1.2* When it works right, it’s great. Currently, the search function in inventory has stopped working with little to no response from xtraCHEF to fix it. This has added hours to my weekly inventory count. When using the recipe costing function, you can’t use a recipe in another recipe more than once. So if you have a recipe for Mayo and use it to make another recipe for chili Mayo, you can’t use the chili Mayo recipe anywhere else, because Mayo is already being used once. It’s a problem when the recipe is say, fried ostrich with chili Mayo. I need to use it twice or go through a lengthy work around to get it correct. I don’t have time in my day to work around an app that’s supposed to save me time. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Bug so bad makes the app unusable. *2025-07-09, version 4.6.3* If you log into your account on another device, then it automatically logs you out here on the xtraCHEF app. No big deal? Well… that is if it allowed you to log back in! Instead it gets stuck on a page that tells you you’ve been logged out. No matter what, no matter restarting the app, nothing is able to get it to work until it chooses to reset. It’s a joke. Last app update was 4 months ago… they clearly don’t care about keeping the bugs off their app. A rip off that only makes my day more challenging and less productive. ### 1/5 — App is terrible *2023-10-16, version 4.4.7* Always always always closes when finishing an inventory and you lose all info you just spent hours counting. The app is absolute garbage. Only use on computer as it won’t crash. ### 1/5 — Stop with all the captcha’s *2023-03-20, version 4.4.0* You will have to go through at least five captchas to try and log in. So unnecessary!!! You’ll get through the endless images to press, then be told it was invalid. The scanner is also poor, and you have to try and get the manual button to appear to speed things along. Their document processing is incredibly accurate but that’s skimming the surface. Not only is that data sanitized and easily exported to the accounting software of your choice; it’s used in internal tools for budgets (departmental), price watching (automatic), contracted pricing, as well as a ton of other tools and reports that show clean and pertinent data on request. The time savings alone should draw most operator’s attention. Beyond saving time though is where the real value begins for us. Since they do an excellent job during the intake of any documentation, the data in your reports and booking software is clean an accurate. Reporting is only as good as what data you feed it (garbage in, garbage out). With xtrachef our reports are razor sharp and continue that way with little effort on our side. If you’re on the fence with their offering, just try it. It will totally change your workflow and accuracy for the better. These tools have been available to the big guys for years. Xtrachef is now bringing it to everyone at an affordable price. In the past we have used multiple solutions to cobble together what xtrachef accomplishes but it was no where near as accurate, user friendly, or vendor agnostic. This service/software should be an essential buy for anyone operating in foodservice. ### 5/5 — So Easy to Use *2019-05-17, version 3.10.0* Such a simple, well thought out app- for a process that is typically so complicated. Not only does Accounting love it, I can see all my prices, approve invoices, view Orders, all from my phone, anywhere. And can’t say more about the team behind this, except they are the best! Every Chef, Accountant, Restaurateur... should have xtraCHEF! - Update - my team puts in Daily Sales, and the Inventory views are incredible, as well as their support.
