## What is Xtunes?

For the love of Cartunes

Xtunes is a local music player built around gesture-first control and an immersive listening experience. Inspired by the classic iPod and Cover Flow era, it brings album artwork, fluid gestures, and full-screen playback back to the center of your music library.

The app reduces the need for traditional buttons and deep menus. Playback, track navigation, library browsing, queue access, and artist or album detail pages are designed to feel natural through gestures. On iPhone and iPad, Xtunes adapts its interface to different screen sizes and orientations, presenting your music with large artwork, atmospheric visuals, and clean controls while helping you stay focused on the listening experience.

Xtunes also supports a full-featured audiobook experience, including resume playback, playback speed controls, and sleep timers. ## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2.0 — 2026-08-19

What's New
- Added the Lossless Music Pack for local APE, WavPack, and TTA playback. It is included with Lifetime License and can also be unlocked separately.

Improved
- Improved artwork loading, cold-start thumbnails, and alphabet-index responsiveness for large libraries, so newly visible tracks show their covers sooner after fast jumps.
- Reduced unnecessary license refreshes at launch and on foreground entry. Recently verified playback access remains stable for a limited period during brief offline or StoreKit interruptions.
- Refined motion and haptic feedback across the player, library, detail views, and song actions, including Reduce Motion behavior.

Fixed
- Improved queue, Lock Screen metadata, and remote-control stability when switching among system-media, local-file, and Lossless Music Pack playback.
- Fixed cases where Lossless cold restore, position recovery, or license resolution could lose the current track or overwrite a valid snapshot.
- Fixed feedback and gesture conflicts among long-press volume control, song-row actions, and page swipes.

### 2.1.2 — 2026-08-06

bug fixes

### 2.1.1 — 2026-07-31

What's New
- Now support 12 more languages: German, Spanish, Korean, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Thai.

Improved
- Refined the iPad wide-library Lab grouping and full-screen lyrics entry, keeping experimental features and the Sidebar Mini Player in clearer layers.
- When Reduce Motion is enabled, the main player, library, Cover Flow, Standby, sleep timer, and onboarding reduce spatial movement and looping animation.
- Improved progress bars, row swipe actions, Cover Flow edge resistance, press feedback for existing text targets, and artwork reveal timing.

Fixed
- Fixed a launch restore issue where main artwork and its reflection could fall out of sync and briefly show the default note or a black reflection.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-07-23

We don’t want Xtunes on iPad to be just a simple enlarged version of the iPhone app, so this update focuses on improving the overall iPad experience. Xtunes now makes better use of iPad’s larger screen and window modes, while also preparing for more iOS device sizes in the future (hopefully ;).
Lifetime License users can now get early access to the brand-new Standby Mode. Think of it as your personal music screensaver.

What's New
- Introduced a brand-new adaptive workspace for iPad and larger windows: view the player and queue side by side, with library sidebar navigation and contextual details.
- Added an Experimental Features entry, allowing you to enable available experimental experiences on demand.
- Added a mini player to the iPad sidebar.

Improvements
- Tweaked the UI again after a little back-and-forth—yes, we noticed too.
- Improved layouts, safe area handling, and interactions across iPhone, iPad, portrait and landscape orientations, Stage Manager, and Dynamic Type.
- Improved cold launch performance for large music libraries.
- Improved gesture coordination between playback progress, volume, two-finger gestures, and page transitions to reduce accidental interactions.

Fixes
- Fixed an issue where the system media item, playback progress, and queue from the previous session could not be restored after fully quitting and relaunching the app, causing only the full library to appear.
- Fixed an issue where an empty state could incorrectly overwrite a valid playback snapshot during launch restoration.
- Fixed an issue where new refresh requests could be lost while refreshing the media library, and an issue where selecting a song from the system media queue could occasionally skip directly to the next track.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-07-12

What's New
- A more capable audiobook player: local audiobook library, chapter queues, chapter-relative progress, Lock Screen and Control Center chapter sync, ±10-second skips, playback speed, sleep timer, and whole-book remaining time.
- Added the Extra page for license status, Lifetime License upgrade, Restore, and Privacy.
- Existing paid users are automatically migrated to Lifetime License without purchasing again.

Improved
- The library tabs are now ordered as Songs, Artists, Albums, Audiobooks, Playlists, and Extra.
- Audiobooks now focus on locally imported .m4b files and audio inside the Audiobooks folder, keeping music and audiobooks clearer.

Fixed
- Fixed seek behavior for some local audiobooks that could jump back to the beginning of the chapter.
- Improved library merging and license checks when opening audiobooks from the Files app, preventing the library from being replaced by only the opened file.
