## What is xWind?

xWind is an easy to use tool to assist pilots in evaluating wind conditions with respect to head, cross and tailwind limitations.

Once setup, the xWind app provides all information in one single screen, requiring minimal user interaction during high workload phases of flight, displaying:

- Current wind direction and speed
- Runway course
- Cross and head or tailwind components
- Currently applied wind limits
- 'Forbidden' wind angles based on the current wind speed
- Maximum wind speed table based on current wind limits

Reference wind, runway course, as well as wind limits, can all be adjusted on the main screen by either dragging the wind arrow, course rose or wind limit lines.

A settings button at the bottom presents a popup screen where both the units for wind speed (Kts or Mps) and the default values for wind limits can be specified.

In addition to the general setting for wind speed units, the user can select the alternative units for only the current wind, wind components and maximum winds table by double tapping the wind display at the top of the main screen. When operating from a Kts country into Mps territory, this option allows to set the current wind and see the maximum allowed winds in Mps, based on limits that are still set in Kts. Or vice versa....

xWinds supports iOS darkmode.

### 2/5 — No labels

*2024-06-09*

It works fine, but the numbers are completely unlabeled and are ambiguous.
I have to relearn what all the numbers mean each time and I think it could be a safety hazard if someone misinterprets the data.

### 5/5 — Just what the title says

*2024-05-16*

Excellent, works well at what it says it does. Good interface, easy to read, would recommend.

### 3/5 — Good quick reference

*2024-04-30*

Incorporating gust factors would be appreciated, gusty winds are when I use the app.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2024-04-11*

Easy to use. It shows variable wind speeds above and beyond your setting, which is very helpful. It also remembers your settings. Great app.

### 2/5 — Difficult to Understand

*2023-11-26*

I understand how to set the Rwy heading but that’s about it. Not intuitive.

**Developer response:** Hello Xplane enthusiast, sorry to hear you had some problems figuring out how to use the app. Did you have a look at the instruction video or in the “how to” section? Both are available from the settings menu, which is accessible by pushing the cogwheel symbol below the runway course.

### 1/5 — Bring Back Old Version

*2023-11-09*

The old version was perfect! Easy to use and fast. This new one isn’t intuitive nor easy to use. It’s being deleted.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear that you liked the previous version more. But to be honest, apart from some minor additions, the app hasn’t really changed since the first version. Could you please be a little bit more specific as to what changes are causing you problems now? (Please use e-mail: xwind@xs4all.nl)

### 5/5 — Great app, poor instructions

*2023-05-10*

Just rewrite the instructions so it’s more clear how to use

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review. At the moment version 1.4 is almost ready to be published in the App Store. It has a short introductory video that shows the main controls of the app. Hopefully this will provide a clearer explanation!

### 5/5 — best app for pro use

*2023-04-29*

It takes a few moments to get used to setting variables, but in a turbulent environment this may be the best interface available.

Feature request : 3 customisable buttons to quickly set limits ( with valuables set on settings page). Eg: 30, 25, 17, for the different runway condition codes of the applicable aircraft type.
Alternatively these could be different colored concentric rings inside the red limit ring already available.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review! Although the simplicity of the app was always a prime objective, your suggestion to add an option to preset limits for certain runway conditions is worth to be taken into consideration.

### 4/5 — XWind

*2023-03-26*

When I figured how to use it I liked the simplicity of it. It gives you a quick and easy way to get your crosswinds component.

### 5/5 — Great crosswind tool for the flight deck

*2023-03-12*

Simple to use. After you set the limits of your aircraft there is no typing required. Setting the runway orientation, wind direction and velocity can be done in seconds. Additionally if you set your aircraft limits it will alert you when the winds are out of limits. Great, simple tool.
