Don’t mind that back recording is not free anymore ### 1/5 — Now subscription needed *2017-12-19, version 3.4.1* Had the camera for almost 4 years and it served me well, together with the app. The fact that no subscription was required was the deciding factor for me to chose Y-cam. Out of the blue, now is a paid subscription needed in order to store the recordings. Would have expected to get grandfathered in at least an offer for a 1 day storage free model, but no. Camera is useless for me now. Very disappointed. ### 2/5 — Sad *2017-11-30, version 3.4.1* This camera used to have free 7-day motion detection and cloud recording which distinguished it from the many cameras out there. They dropped the free cloud recording out of the blue today, now need a subscription for what was free previously. At the very least should have continued to offer 3-day or even 1-day free cloud storage. Now it’s the same as any other camera you can get. I recommend shopping elsewhere. Previous review was 5 stars. Sad. ### 1/5 — New version-location recording won’t reset *2017-10-20, version 3.4.0* The newest version broke location recording. Can’t reset the location. The audio is bad when voices are raised. The picture is ok. Unlike another camera I have from another maker, this camera rarely needs to be reset. It's simple to use. It's great that they offer 7 days of free cloud storage. When I check the Live video feed it's either delayed or worse it just shows a cached screen from before, sometimes from days ago. No matter how long it buffers or the wheel spins the live video never plays. Functionally, it is worthless...worse than the last (if any of us could imagine that was possible). First of all, maybe you shouldn't instantly notify everyone that the old app was no longer working and you had to switch to a new app to monitor your cameras. A little heads up maybe? Conversion period? Nope...instantly cut off. I had to pull off the road to upload the new app in hopes of keeping any notion of security. Function...crap! I have three cameras. One now has nothing but a grey screen, and the app says it's functioning properly. A second has a black screen and hasn't sent any notifications that there is a problem, but I can't pull up the camera. The third has a picture, but there is an awful feedback sound that drowns out anything that might be in the room. No email...no push notifications...nothing. The positive reviews of the new app are either complete fabrications or people who don't monitor their cameras through this app at all. Sure there is a great screen shot of what your camera saw on the home screen, but that could be hours, days, or weeks old if you aren't paying attention. Summation...YOU CANNOT RELY ON THIS APP FOR SECURITY. If Y-cam wants to pretend like they have a viable product, they need to step up and make a viable monitoring system! ### 4/5 — Latest app much improved! *2017-06-09, version 3.0.0* I have both Y-cam and Neat products. Before this latest major app upgrade I found myself going to my Nest app because it had a better user interface and more rapid response time. This new Y-cam app has brought the user experience back up to almost par with nest. The only other feature I would like to see is the controls scrolling I am able to do with Nest. Cameras may or may not record. Very distressing. The online access is the only way I can access my cameras and it’s being phased out. The app is junk. I log in and get a confirmation email notification my device is connected, but the app gets stuck on the login page. With the new app, I can get *maybe* one single frame of video, but more likely the app just crashes. Within one year this became 7 day/3 yrs and then “no free storage at all anymore for you!” (and everybody else) So cams are essentially useless for security purposes now, as only live feeds are working. My sister lives in same town and has a disability. Instead of dropping in twice a day I can use this system to check in. With the still picture views I can quickly tell she is ok without feeling like a voyeur. I have found this simple to set up and use and highly recommend it. ### 5/5 — Best Value *2019-01-20, version 3.6.1* The cameras perform very well. Had them for sometime and I’m the happy with the features. Even though it was free at some point and now is a paid service the overall value is better than anything out there (based on the number of cameras). I like the motion area feature, but on the outside cameras, you get a lot of false positives from rain, wind, and leaves. I hooked all my outside cameras up POE running off a Ubiquity switch that also runs POE to the APs. That is on an UPS, so the cameras keep running during short power outages. The app is great, allowing you to view the cameras and liters from the sensitive mic in real time, or recorded segments when the camera detected motion. ### 5/5 — It works! *2016-06-17, version 1.1* Recently spent 2 months in New Zealand and was able to login and check videos on an NZ Telecom internet connection.
