### 4/5 — Tabla

*2014-11-14, version 2.0.4*

Spoken dialog not always in sync with the written dialog. Also, voices sound hollow during "slow" play. Otherwise, a great learning tool.

### 5/5 — Well done

*2014-10-04, version 2.0.4*

This is an excellent app for learning and practicing french. I have been using it practically daily for months and it is very well done. It is one of the few french sites / apps that accommodates intermediate and advanced learners as well as beginners and newbies.

### 5/5 — Crashes with iOS 8.0.2

*2014-09-28, version 2.0.4*

I love love love this app, but yesterday I bought a new phone running iOS 8.0.2, and now it crashes immediately when I try to open it! Help!! I want my Yabla French back! (I'm giving it five stars for how it works when it works at all).

### 5/5 — A great way to learn!

*2014-08-31, version 2.0.3*

I love Yabla as it has many videos and you can choose from many according to your knowledge of the target language. Listen at a slower pace or listen at the true native speed, then to help you listen that much more use the game method. Learning with Yabla is great fun!

### 5/5 — Yabla on the go!

*2014-08-05, version 2.0.3*

Love that I can use Yabla offline now.

### 5/5 — Very good a huge resource

*2014-06-22, version 2.0.3*

The videos are the right length around 3 min. The ability to turn off the french or english subtitles real works well. Also the fill in the missing word games makes the whole thing more engaging. Overall I think this is a fantastic app, which everyone learning french should try.

### 5/5 — Genau das wonach ich gesucht habe... Top!

*2014-06-17, version 2.0.3*

Bin begeistert

... Wer jedoch keinerlei Vorkenntnisse hat, sollte erstmal irgendeinen Grundkurs machen...

### 5/5 — SPANISH!

*2013-08-27, version 1.0.0*

Make a version for the Spanish please!! My school has been using yabla for years now and I'd love to be able to use the site on my iPad! :D

### 5/5 — YES!!

*2013-08-19, version 1.0.0*

Been using yabla for a while now.... AND I LOVE IT! Only site where I can watch French videos with French subtitles.... Which is a much more effective way to learn than French w English subtitles. Yay so glad they have an app now!! 😃

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Massively overpriced subscription

*2025-03-31, version 4.4.6*

You can get the same style of subtitled French content for free on Youtube.

### 1/5 — App freezes

*2020-01-23, version 3.1.3*

There’s a point where the app freezes and won’t let me finish the vocabulary review. Not acceptable in a paid app! Otherwise I really like it.

### 1/5 — No update for iPhone XS Max yet☹️

*2019-02-20, version 3.1.3*

No update for iPhone XS Max yet☹️

### 1/5 — Trash

*2018-01-11, version 3.1.1*

If you are a student downloading this, DON'T unless your french teacher forces you to. It will make you worse at French.
If you are a teacher wanting to try something new, DON'T. It will not help your students, the people in the videos speak way to fast to understand and learn.
Written with a few angry french students

### 1/5 — Dumb

*2013-09-30, version 1.0.3*

Seems like a great app, if only there was sound to with the videos.

### 2/5 — Lacks Basic Functionality, Poor UI

*2019-08-12, version 3.1.3*

The UI is incredibly clunky and poorly designed. Each video lacks 50% of the controls provided in the web interface. Just use the online version; it works fine on mobile.

### 4/5 — Good bit lacks mNy features

*2018-11-10, version 3.1.3*

Would like to sort out my videos based on Beginner and then from Least difficult.

### 4/5 — Liking this App

*2017-06-07, version 3.0.7*

Small bites of French, with learning games and many different levels. Perhaps not for a total beginner, but to take you to the next level I find it very good. Had a slight problem with App at first, but contact with the support team had it sorted out very quickly

### 4/5 — Not easy to download all videos.(both ios version) Video size too small(ipad version)

*2016-05-07, version 3.0.4*

iphone-version:
can not download videos directly, but have to click inside the video to check if it is downloadable or to download it. It's really not user-friendly, and can you consider add a "download all" button to each category(like bookmarked) to both ios apps(ipad version and iphone version)?
ipad-version:
video is too small, not even reach left and right edge, please fix this. And in offline-mode, can you also add a button to hide the white area(the area used to search words)

### 4/5 — Needs more features

*2015-03-07, version 2.0.4*

The web version of Yabla has more features -- notably a list of user identified vocabulary drawn from each video by the user and retained for later use by the user. This vocabulary feature supports/reinforces each video experience so that the experience lasts into future exchanges with similar events/places/people. The app should be expanded to perform like the web version. Otherwise a very good app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Macht viel Spaß

*2023-01-25, version 4.2.9*

### 5/5 — Great Work On the App Design

*2021-05-06, version 4.1.6*

Quit this application I subscribe to the monthly so I’m really on and off this sometimes I find it really useful and sometimes I find it not that useful but I have to say that using it on the iPad is incredibly intuitive and it’s easy for me to go back-and-forth and Luke different sections.I’m really surprised how much I like using it on the iPad great work whoever designed the controls being able to tap back-and-forth it’s really great.

### 5/5 — This app needs all learner’s attention!

*2020-04-24*

The teaching “idea” and realization is amazing, i would also add the option of “memory cards” for those words I’d like to practice more. The only thing is that it’s a bit expensive and there is now “one time purchase” option, cause for me, it would be easier to pay once and use forever, but except that it’s a really great app if which almost replace you a real language immersion, good job!

### 5/5 — Best app, best methods for language learning

*2019-02-12, version 3.1.3*

This app is exceptionally good. The combination of the short videos and word quizzes is perfect. The videos are interesting and available at many different levels. If you’re traveling, you can download the videos to watch offline. I would give them 10 stars if I could!

### 5/5 — Fun during down time

*2018-04-21, version 3.1.3*

Intuitive learning system that is enjoyable during down time.

### 5/5 — 10x Improved

*2018-01-23, version 3.1.1*

Took years and years, but they finally updated the app! We’re no longer stuck in the past. I love the new design! So much cleaner. I do agree with one other reviewer... When they film the videos, they need to tell these people to slow down. It can sometimes be so fast, that you get frustrated, and eventually cancel your subscription. Why do the french always feel they need to rush through their sentences?

### 5/5 — BRILLIANT!

*2016-09-17, version 3.0.4*

Entertaining and effective way of expanding your language skills - without any effort!

### 5/5 — Excellent App!

*2016-04-11, version 3.0.4*

My Mom recommended this app, and I think she was onto something. I can now watch videos and learn about subjects I really enjoy learning about in the language I want. This is an excellent app for anyone at any level from advanced to intermediate.

### 5/5 — Good for learning new languages!

*2015-09-29, version 2.0.4*

I downloaded for reminding my French, which works out really well, I can practice my listening through watching different topic videos with or without subtitles, as long as you have patient then this app will help u a lot!

### 5/5 — Great for a portable version

*2015-04-01, version 2.0.4*

As has been pointed out, the PC web version has more features, as is almost always the case. I have been using this app for several weeks and have not had any problems using it on my iPad mini. It has the normal speed player, loop and pause and game features. As a language geek, I have used Yabla for years and find this app is a great adjunct to it.
