None came close to YachtWave. It is simple and intuitive enough to be up and working in minutes, yet has the critical features needed to make it so powerful! (inventory, maintenance planning and tracking, powerful checklists, offline usage, repair manuals and photos, etc) Now we know where everything is on our boat, how many we have, and where and how to replenish stock, as well as a detailed maintenance log. All on our phones! Plus the development team is extremely responsive and constantly updating and fixing and adding new features. Every boat owner should have this app!!! ### 5/5 — The closest to a comprehensive small fleet management solution I have found *2025-06-22* I own a small company in Alaska, where we operate and maintain five vessels. This app is the closest thing I’ve found to a comprehensive solution for managing the maintenance of the vessels, tracking and logging hours and observations/issues on the vessels, and passing information from one captain to the next. We’re in the process of uploading for each of our vessels some “how-to” instructions we have created for fixing common mechanical issues on the water. The app has the potential to become an easily accessible manual of sorts for all of our captains. There are still shortcomings (maintenance scheduling and tracking still needs improvement and isn’t very intuitive), and there’s little hacks we use to make the app work for us in areas that it is lacking, but I will say that the app is improving constantly, and the developers are fairly responsive. Thank you! ### 5/5 — Yachtwave App *2025-06-13, version 2.34.10* I have a Selene 43 with many extra conveniences. After a lot of willing assistance by Captain John and his crew I set up my tasks and checks to futuristically prevent issues at sea. It is user friendly and absolutely aimed at preventative maintenance which in my mind is a must. Having a breakdown halfway across the Tasman even with a new diesel pump has convinced me Yachtwave is an essential part of passage making and Coastal cruising. ### 5/5 — How squared away do you want to be *2025-06-03* I wanted to wait a while to use the app before I writing this review. This app is freaking awesome! It’s so well thought out. I’m a Captain of a 75’ yacht that has many components of course and till I found this app, I was just saving everything in folders on Apple Files but it was very difficult. I’m a very diligent person and like to access any and all information, pics, documents at the drop of a dime. It just blows my mind how clean, neat and organized everything is. It will take a while to build up your database but you can just do it as things break (lol) or need maintenance. I really shouldn’t be saying this but this app shouldn’t be free. I can store my spare parts, manage my regular maintenance items, and track what I have done. You will be hard pressed to find another app that allows you to keep up with necessary maintenance with 0 cost ### 5/5 — Great App *2025-04-29, version 2.34.3* We are an Australian motor cruiser and heard from a fellow YouTuber about this app. Only just downloaded, and still importing all our data, but finding it simple and clear to use. I did initially have an issue with our HIN, but emailed Captain John for advice and received a prompt reply and resolution. Really impressed with the amount of data that can be imported, and looking forward to having all our service records etc in one place, and not in various paper folders, especially onboard. Having this info at our fingertips will be invaluable. I’m in Quebec and know many that would use it if it was in French although a few already do use it in English. ### 5/5 — THE BEST APP, HANDS DOWN! *2025-04-10* Say goodbye to looking through your camera roll and writing in the notes app! Look I’m not one to review things ever, but when it’s this good I feel obligated to. This app has so much depth to it, there are things I never would have thought of and then some more. As a mechanic, and captain myself, this is the holy grail. An easy, organized place to keep all of my maintenance and equipment records. It allows documents, pdfs (service manuals), pictures all to be stored on the app under a certain product. AND ITS SO ADDICTING! Although not advised, I have spent my full day at work filling all my equipment information out. Currently fixing up an almost 40 year old boat, putting new wiring in, new systems, doing fiberglass work etc. This tells me what I still need to do, buy, or remove. It is all encompassing, and FREE! I thought for sure there would be a ton of ads or you get 3 steps in and it requires a subscription, but to be fair there is none of that. And that’s despite the fact that I WOULD pay a subscription, there is so much value in this. It is very limited and doesn’t recognize thing like Onan Generators or their KW. Other than that it’s kind of useless. ### 3/5 — Great app but… *2024-10-02* I have to update this thing every other day, it’s starting to get pretty annoying. If it was every other week or month it’d be fine but no. Every time I open the app I’m updating it and I use it for day to day work. It’s definitely not geared towards sportfishers at all mainly large pleasure yachts my ask is it slow down on the daily updates and make it week to week, and add some stuff in for us fisherman! **Developer response:** Hi there! I will do what I can. - John ### 3/5 — Promising But Needs Work *2024-03-28* I really want to like this app. It's got a ton of potential. Unfortunately, I just can't bring myself to switch from MaintainX just yet, despite this app being free (vs $20/mo for MaintainX). First, the app should default to the "Tasks" view, since that's what the vast majority of users are using it for. What percentage of users need to open the app and then choose which of their many boats they're interested in managing that day? Adding tasks is cumbersome. If I click on the "My Tasks" tab, I get a nice list of my tasks...but no way to add one. For that I have to go back and choose a boat, then choose "Tools" and then choose "Tasks" and THEN I can add one. Don't make me think that hard. Additionally, I can't add all the necessary details when creating a task. Why make me create a task with only a name and due date, and then have to save it, reopen it, and select "Edit" to add recurrence? Aren't most tasks on a yacht preventative and therefore recurring on some schedule? Again: don't make me think that hard. Offer all the task details on first creation. Why can't I create a Checklist without first having to create a Template? Why can't I add a Checklist to a Task? Why can't I create a Checklist and add the steps in the same process? Why do I have to assign each step in a Checklist to a user? The steps should be part of a list that will be part of a task that will be assigned to a user - that way a recurring task with a list of steps can be easily created. I don't want to have to remember to complete a Checklist every X days. Again...this app has potential, but it needs a fair amount of work before I can really use it to manage my boat. **Developer response:** HI! So if you’re using the notes category and you have a list of items there’s no way to add a line in the middle of the list. ### 4/5 — Good App. missing some key features that would make it great *2026-07-06* Love it so far but missing a few key features 1) Export Equipment, Inventory, Machinery, & Maintenance Records to PDF / Word Document 2) Import Survey to automatically generate equipment list and/or maintenance tasks 3) Duplicate items (equipment, machinery) I spent way too much time creating things and filling out the same information 5-10 times. Duplicate and edit would have saved me loads of time 4) multiple attachments per maintenance record and manage attachments. I have invoices, photos, repair notes. And I can only attach 1 item per maintenance record. And there is no way to remove attachments. 5) need more location options for equipment. Ex (port & starboard for when I just want one piece of equipment to manage say 2 fuel tanks or props, also things like cabin - fwd, and service panel above/ below . **Developer response:** Hi "Good, close to great"! Odd. ### 4/5 — Powerful potential *2025-05-11* It looks like this app is to link owners to companies that can provide services. I didn’t immediately find the checklist. There are places where you have to duplicate data that you’ve already provided when you listed your boat. Overall, it looks like it could be a very beneficial once it is fleshed out. Using it for maintenance records but also various checklists, such as departure. One very NEGATIVE feature/bug: if the app requires an update, but we are leaving anchorage in the middle of nowhere to avoid a storm, the app keeps asking for an update with every click of a button. Filling a checklist in these conditions is impossible. This is an irresponsible “feature” for a marine app that should stay lightweight and focus on the critical mission. I may start looking for other apps to do the checklists. One minor bug with the checklist: if you assign tasks, you can’t see who fulfilled the task. You have to exit the checklist and get back into it to update. This defeats the purpose of distributed tasks. **Developer response:** UPDATED 12-11-2024 - The new update is now on the app stores. It snoozes the message for 3 hours so that it doesn't keep appearing. Thanks for the suggestion! ORIGINAL RESPONSE: Hi Yaredna! You make a good point. I'll ensure the next update, "snoozes for 1 day," the alert instead of displaying the alert with each refresh. I can see how that can be annoying. Also, with the checklist (and all other items, notes, tasks, etc), you need to "pull down" on the list, and it refreshes the content so you will see updates in the data. So you don't need to leave and restart; it's just a simple refresh. Boat is much more complex than previous boats I’ve owned. The YW app has been an invaluable tool to help me learn, operate and maintain my new boat. Super easy to create checklists, maintenance schedules, and keep track of critical parts, model numbers, owners manuals, etc. Much easier to pull up an owners manual on my YachtWave app when in the engine room than to dig thru multiple cases looking for the hard copy.
