## What is Yappy?

Share an article, a PDF, an EPUB, a Word file or a video with Yappy, and a parrot reads it to you in a natural voice. While you cook, while you walk, or with your eyes closed. Everything happens inside your iPhone: nothing ever leaves it.

NO CLOUD, NO ACCOUNTS, NO PER-CHARACTER FEES
The voice is synthesised on your device by an open model of about 66 million parameters. No sign-up, no email. It works offline, forever.

31 LANGUAGES AND TEN VOICES, ALL OF THEM POLYGLOT
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Croatian, Slovenian, Slovak, Czech, Hungarian, Greek, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese. Texts with quotes in another language switch on their own, paragraph by paragraph.

SHARING IS THE DOOR
From Safari, Mail, Files or any app: tap Share and choose Yappy. The page cleans itself up (menus, banners and footers gone) and what is left is the prose, with its headings and its rhythm. YouTube videos are listened to like articles. PDFs and EPUBs arrive with chapters. Voice notes are transcribed on the device.

THE SCRIPTWRITER: FROM WHAT IS WRITTEN TO WHAT IS SAID
Reading aloud is not spelling out. "1492" is said "fourteen ninety-two"; "Henry VIII" is said "Henry the Eighth", but "Louis XIV" in French is "Louis quatorze". Yappy turns every text into a reading script with the rules of each language, and the voice follows it sentence by sentence while the text lights up on screen.

THE SCREEN IS THE BUTTON
Tap anywhere to pause, swipe to skip a paragraph, slide along the edge to change the speed. And from the lock screen or your headphones, like any other player.

THE PRESS: WHOLE BOOKS AS AUDIOBOOKS
Leave a book rendering when you go to bed and wake up with an audiobook with chapters in your library. With the bridge, your Mac or PC can convert it for you and send it back on its own.

TRULY FREE, AND A WIND-UP PARROT
Yappy is open source (MIT licence). The free parrot carries three documents at a time on its perch; remove one and another fits, with no time limit. If you want a bottomless perch, the audiobook press and the bridge to your computer, wind it up with Yappy Parlanchín: a monthly or yearly subscription, or a single lifetime purchase. Cancel whenever you like.
